Jim Monaghan (Poet): I’m A Labour Party Member & Supporter Of Scottish Independence | Referendum 2014 | Scoop.it

"I am a Labour Party member and a supporter of independence for Scotland.  I believe in devolving power as close to people as possible.  There is no doubt that working with other neighbouring nations is a good idea and the UK has been a reasonably succesful union, but now that we are part of the EU the UK serves no purpose, Scotland should be a direct member of the EU and have influence at that level as an equal with other nations.  I have no nationalist feelings, I dont care for flags or national saints.  My own background is mixed with relatives across the world and my partner is an immigrant who holds dual nationalities (neither of them British), to me it is an issue of self-determination and democracy, not nationality.”
