"Makerspaces just might take over libraries. School of Information Studies professor Dave Lankes seems to think so. In his presentation to New York State librarians earlier this month, he asked the roomful of librarians to imagine libraries as places for people to learn and create, not consume and check out. In another talk he gave in October, he declared, “What will kill our profession is not ebooks, Amazon, or Google, but a lack of imagination.” What’s a Makerspace? Via Buffy J. Hamilton
WebProNews interviewed Kate Brodock, the Executive Director of Digital and Social Media at Syracuse University about critical elements of successful content curation on the web.
From her replies:
a) In the verification process
...proper attribution of the original content creator is very important.
There are many ways to do this on various platforms, and there are generally recognized “best practices” that people use.

...It pays to take a look at how each platform handles this aspect of curation and make sure you’re dotting your “I”s and crossing your ‘t’s.”
Right on the mark. 8/10 Via Robin Good

‘Curación’ es un término que aunque pudiera resultar extraño para hablar en castellano, ya que se recoge de la expresión inglesa ‘content curation’ o ‘ content curator’, es una palabra que la hemos heredado del latín ‘curare’ que significa curar, cuidar o preocuparse. Por tanto, se trata de un concepto que emana justamente los valores que se le quiere dar a esta nueva fórmula de entender la comunicación. Move over, auto-tweets: This week, the BBC has switched its @BBCNews Twitter feed to all-human curation. (One small step for a news feed; one giant leap for newsfeedkind.)
It’s a lot like the experiment The New York Times tried with human Twitter curation this spring…except that it’s not an experiment. It’s a new strategy. One that involves, at the moment, a team of four people working across three core Twitter feeds — @BBCNews, @BBCBreaking, and @BBCWorld.
“We want to be tweeting with value,” Chris Hamilton, BBC News’ social media editor, told me of the move.... [read full article http://j.mp/s1imfW] Via Giuseppe Mauriello, Robin Good
