I would add that there's an equally high level of resistance, primarily due to the general lack of perceived value in social media efforts. Unfortunately, many business owners will post, poke around and then leave a languishing presence hanging in public - which can also have a negative effect on the business.

Free Social Media? Think twice before you create a free FB Page that highlights a lack of interest and updates with the mausoleum effect. If you can't source this to someone to help out, at least grab 30 min - 1hr with a savvy friend or consultant that can net out a few simple methods to utilze these things. Worst case, you'll avoid giving the company a negative / neglectful image. Best case, you'll see the power of the tools and start reaping the benefits!
