"Over the next five years, 90%of jobs will be created in emerging and developing countries" says ILO

"Over the next five years, 90%of jobs will be created in emerging and developing countries" says ILO | Recruitment & Technology | Scoop.it

The 2014 edition of the ILO  World of Work discusses the importance of job quality amid somewhat positive global employment developments. Reflecting a smaller increase than previous projections, global unemployment stood at just under 200 million in 2013 and is expected to rise by 3.2 million in 2014. By 2019, given current trends and policies, unemployment will reach 213 million. Global joblessness is projected to remain broadly at the current level of 6 per cent until 2017.

The highest unemployment rates, in North Africa and the Middle East, are expected to remain at 12.3 and 11.1 per cent in 2014. The largest increase in 2014 is estimated for Central and South-Eastern Europe and former Soviet bloc countries, where unemployment will reach 8.3 per cent in 2014.

Over the next five years, 90 per cent of jobs will be created in emerging and developing countries. This is expected to have a significant impact on migration flows.

“Migration patterns look set to change as emerging and developing countries make further progress in improving the quality of jobs,“ said Mahmood. “Already, South-South migration is on the rise while workers are also leaving advanced economies, particularly some hard-hit European countries, for work opportunities in developing countries.”

Sirona Says: Forget 2017, The Future of Recruitment Is Here. Now

At what point do you stop believing job data? Every single day in the press, online, on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn there is a new study about the state of talent somewhere in the world. Granted it is an important subject - in fact a crucial subject to some global industries at the moment. But is anyone actually paying attention to the thought that if some of these surveys are even 50% correct, we have really serious issues ahead in recruitment?

Peter Thompson's insight:

Great article by Andy Headworth on the tech available to direct sorucing companies right now & how this is reducing their reliance on agencies.... & why you need to be offering value to the communities where your ideal candidates hang out (not just the big platforms like LI etc.)

Tony Brugman (Bright & Company)'s curator insight, May 28, 2015 10:55 AM

Brought to you by Workforce Analytics vendor Visier, some 'real examples' of HR Analytics. In his examples, the author (Visier's director) mentions several success factors when performing HR Analytics:

1) "It is not the standalone metrics that brings the insight, but the ability to quickly build comparisons, identify trends and find outliers that makes the difference."

2) "Turning critical questions into a single number allows for powerful insight (and comparison) across the organization."

3) "The opportunities to add value through HR practices come more from stopping the wrong outcome from happening, than from reporting on what has happened."

4 "Instead of using the old indicators (/ usual suspects) to estimate behavior modern analytics technology applies algorithms that take into account many additional factors to refine the prediction of expected behavior."

Future of work: how the freelance revolution is changing the meaning of a ‘day job’

Future of work: how the freelance revolution is changing the meaning of a ‘day job’ | Recruitment & Technology | Scoop.it

Across Australia many employers have realised that developing and promoting an appealing working environment is an effective way to both attract and retain staff.

But even these efforts are proving insufficient in gaining the services of an increasing number of Australians, who are cashing in job security for a more flexible working lifestyle.

The exact number of Australian that are leaving full-time employment for life as a freelancer (also known as a ‘soloist’ in some circles) is hard to define – in part because many of Australia’s freelancers are actually moonlighting after working hours.

This is seen in figures from the Australian e-commerce platform provider BigCommerce, which has found that more than half of the work done by retailers who use its software is conducted in the evening. This suggests many online retailers are working a day job and running an e-commerce site at night.

Freelance economy: The United States in particular has seen a rapid rise in the so-called freelance economy, with freelancer numbers projected to outpace full-time workers by 2020, according to business services firm MBO Partners. The McKinsey Global Institute has also suggested that 160 million jobs – approximately 11 per cent of the world’s 1.46 billion service jobs – could be carried out remotely. While many of these freelancers work in traditional contracting arrangements, for a growing number work is facilitated through the numerous online outsourcing marketplaces, such as Freelancer.com, oDesk and Elance.

The 9 Hottest Trends In HR Technology ... And Many Are Disruptive

The 9 Hottest Trends In HR Technology ... And Many Are Disruptive | Recruitment & Technology | Scoop.it
I just completed several weeks of HR conferences (four vendor conferences, the HR Technology Conference, SuccessConnect, and LinkedIn TalentConnect) and want to share some insights on key directions in HR technology.
Peter Thompson's insight:
My personal bugbear is point 5. HR Vendor-Provided Middleware is Becoming a Standard! JB says "Bottom Line: HR Technology Is Changing Fast" Remember that HR is a huge marketplace: every company with more than 10 employees has some type of HR software in place. And today’s HR tools are used by managers, employees, candidates, and part time contractors, so everyone “uses” them. As technology changes, disruptive ideas and vendors come to market. It’s an exciting space, and every year it surprises us with new directions.
