BranchOut is a Facebook app that connects professionals through the social media platform and has grown to 25 million usersin only two years. Marini’s explains his company’s success by first lauding LinkedIn as a great product but noting it’s not very personal. He describes LinkedIn as a great resource for finding 10-percent of the workforce and compares it to meeting someone at a professional event for five minutes. He goes on to suggest that Facebook users are engaged, care about one another on a more personal level and that users will go out of their way to help one another get a job. http://branchout.com/

Is Gen-Y using Facebook for professional networking, or purely for social purposes? This is the question on everyone’s mind as the professional networking space within the world’s largest social network grows. As the employees currently entering the workforce build their social networks, will they seek to integrate their professional network within their social one? Millennial Branding took a look at the degree to which the average member of the Millennial generation is connected to colleagues, as well as friends.

Seth Godin latest article, entitled "the trap of social media noise", touches on one of the hot issues that boiling under the new content curation tools carnival.
Are we creating and leveraging these tools to regurgitate and spit out more noise, or are we working to build tools and to help others understand the value of distilling and making sense of the information wave surrounding us?
If you plan on using curation for recruitment purposes, Networking, Brand Awareness etc. then you had better make it focused and add value! Via Robin Good, Liz Wilson, Giuseppe Mauriello, Peter Thompson
I am not convinced either way at this stage, there is still room for both but LinkedIn must be a much higher percentage at the professional level.

I've recently been reviewing the various options for online email marketing utilities/services and this UK based system stands far above the rest. Fabulously simple but well designed interface leads you intuitively through the process. Great subscriber management, lots of professional looking templates with great output, extensive reporting and drill downs, sh*t hot support team and some fab SM integration. This is a solution that really works and is great value for money imho. Probably not there yet wrt large corporate multi-user environments as no real workflow etc. but there are workrounds and its in the dev pipeline so watch this space for updates.
Try it, you'll be pleasently surprised!

Google is getting into the personalized news delivery app game with Google Currents, a new product available Thursday for Android and iOS devices.
Google Currents is a slightly different product than Flipboard or its ilk, since it doesn’t draw links directly from social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Instead, it grabs content from discrete sources. Currents offers many sources to choose from (including GigaOM) in a variety of categories, and even allows you to follow individual content curators, like Robert Scoble and Guy Kawasaki, or any Google+ public stream.
Content is a little more organized than in Flipboard or other apps, and publishers have more control over how it appears thanks to a self-service platform also launched Thursday that allows them to brand and customize their content, even without developer know-how. It’s a very nice way to both encourage small producers to get on board with Currents, and also help expand Google’s available content library for readers....

Some great advice on how to appeal to Gen Y workers. Like this: "Just because I'm young, Just because I'm Gen Y, doesn't mean that I want to be communicated with via email or via social media." And this: "I get a lot of frustrated calls from Gen Ys when they feel they're applying into a black hole, and that the process takes too long. They really prioritize speed, so the fact that hiring has traditionally taken weeks and weeks, if not months, is a big turnoff to Gen Ys." Via Bob Corlett
Excellent recruitment campaign....Can you crack the code?
That's the question Britain's electronic listening agency, GCHQ, is asking in an online campaign to find the next generation of cyber specialists.
GCHQ quietly launched a cryptic Website last month featuring a box of code made up of numbers and letters. There is no branding on the site, only the phrase "Can you crack it?" and a box to type in an answer.

The days of traditional website authority building are long gone. So many innovative channels have become available today that on the surface can make the task seem much easier but require hard work, dedication, and a lot of strategy, too.
Website authority is nothing more than quality, as determined by major search engines. Most search engines take into consideration the number of quality inbound links, the age of the domain, the time visitors spend on the site, and hundreds of other factors. SEOMoz has done a great job of testing, analyzing, and figuring out what authority factors may exist – and best practices surrounding site authority.

Over the last few months, I have been presenting and discussing the topic of HR analytics. I feel that as a profession, HR is stuck. I think we have "got" the measurement part down pat. We can measure turnover, we can measure cost per hire, ...It's about what you actually DO with the data.
Good post on how HR can use its data along side other company data and provide meaningful information - i.e. stop making excuses, start solving problems! Via James Whitelock
