It's a Wonderful Life: Family Storytelling

It's a Wonderful Life: Family Storytelling | Recording and Archiving Family History | Scoop.it
Learn how to encourage your older loved ones to share their favorite memories and best stories, and why this is so important.

Via Kathy Hansen, Kim Myers
Keiron Gray's insight:

This is what family is all about.... The wonderful stories passed down from generation to generation, family traditions and so much more. Sadly these are being lost as families become fragmented and displaced.

Kathy Hansen's curator insight, December 27, 2012 9:53 PM

When we encourage our parents to remember their past and talk about their memories and feelings, it validates the importance of their life’s experiences and strengthens family bonds. It reveals previously unknown facets of our parent’s character and past, helping us better understand who we are and where we came from.

Virginia (Pavlovich's curator insight, December 29, 2012 3:27 PM

This is so true!

The Recording Booth

The Recording Booth | Recording and Archiving Family History | Scoop.it
Keiron Gray's insight:

Just like America, we had these recording booths here in the UK, mostly in Holiday resorts & railway stations where holiday makers could record & send a State of the Art 'Wish you were here' message. Those 'hissy' plastic records make lovely momentos of days long ago. If you posess one, we can transfer it to CD or MP3 for you to share with family members. www.videoimpactuk.com

Quoting: One hundred years from now, will anyone know what you did today, or even that you were alive? Did you leave any trail marking your existence, or did you leave no trace? Did you send someone a birthday card?
Keiron Gray's insight:

A 'Timebox' is a lovely idea. But don't discount technology altogether, A digital file containing a few precious sound bites, photos or video clips would go a long way to providing the generations down the line with an almost living perception of the person who left it. www.videoimpactuk.com

Steve's Tech Blog » Fading Memories: Problems of Aging VHS tapes

Keiron Gray's insight:

From our experience VHS tapes are very rarely stored correctly, and suffer accordingly. Many get stored away in a loft or in an out building like a garage or shed and by the time we get them the damp and humidity or extremities of temperatures have completely destroyed the viability of the tape, rendering it useless. Don't let it happen to you! www.videoimpactuk.com
