I posted some photos from my wonderful vacation to Utah and Arizona last week and received many requests for my itinerary. So, here it is! Flew into Las Vegas and next day (or same day, depending on when you arrive), drove to Zion National Park. (For most of my hiking information, I used this great …

What Google knows about greener offices

"The driver has been studies that help validate what a lot of designers feel intuitively."
Maureen Calamia's insight:

"The driver has been studies that help validate what a lot of designers feel intuitively." Well thank god for research!

As a culture, we need science to validate our feelings...too bad we no longer trust our inherent intuition, as indigenous cultures once did.

Tending To Our Interior Nature(s)

Tending To Our Interior Nature(s) | ReConnecting to Nature | Scoop.it
It is frequently observed that we have become an indoor species, spending more than 90 percent of our time inside our homes and offices. When we are not in these spaces, we are often traveling in cars on our way to or from these spaces. Relatively little of our day is actually spent outside enjoying
Maureen Calamia's insight:
#FengShui is a great roapmap on how to reconnect to nature indoors.

Abandoning Hostile Design for a Living Architecture - Point of View - March 2016

What makes hostile vs. welcoming environments
Maureen Calamia's insight:
As I read this (and I am a feng shui consultant, not an architect), I can't help but think that the word "emergent" is in essence "chi." Chi is an intangible presence that can make an environment welcoming or hostile to the visitor or occupant. It can be either positive or negative.

NYC's plans for biophilic urban acupuncture | ReConnecting to Nature | Scoop.it
If we're not careful, our commute and daily experience within the city will be nothing more than glass, steel and concrete.
Maureen Calamia's insight:
Love the idea of #urban #acupuncture - spots that interconnect and create synergy of connection with #nature - providing respite and stimulating the parasympathetic system. I have enjoyed the subway art like the one pictured here, on my daily commute to Hudson Street several years back.

Coffee Break? Walk in the Park? Why Unwinding Is Hard

Coffee Break? Walk in the Park? Why Unwinding Is Hard | ReConnecting to Nature | Scoop.it
What you do during a mental break determines how helpful that pause will be, research shows. A walk in the woods can do wonders. A walk in the busy city, not so much.
Maureen Calamia's insight:

Just highlighting that to improve attention and concentration, a break viewing images of nature is actually better than a walk in the city! Of course, taking a walk in nature is best :)
