"It is really amazing the popularity Pinterest gained in this very short period since its official launch. Compared to some other social media outlets, Pinterest has made a real and major breakthrough . It has radically transformed the notion of bookmarking by making it visually engaging. This ' visual ingredient ' is what matters to today's netizens ( citizens of the net ). People are more attracted to visual cues than text cues and this is normal given the way the brain reads, processes, and interprets the incoming signals. Images take less time and less efforts to be internally processed."

School Libraries Work!

School Libraries Work! | School Libraries and the importance of remaining current. | Scoop.it

School Libraries Work! seeks to empower librarians, classroom teachers, school and district leaders, policy makers, parents and communities by arming them with the most powerful research-based frameworks, recommendations, and support for school library programs.

The 2016 compendium updates and builds upon the 2008 edition, reinforcing the most relevant themes from that report while highlighting recent research at both the national and state levels. All told, the research included in this compendium continues to show that school libraries and school librarians are a powerful force in the lives of America's children.

“ Reading through the solution to Dr. Russell's search challenge, which is a very advanced one that I wouldn't expect most high school students to employ, got me thinking about a search strategy and tools that I haven't employed before. School Libraries play a huge part in pupils' education

School Libraries play a huge part in pupils' education | School Libraries and the importance of remaining current. | Scoop.it

Recent research emphasises this importance. A study by the Institute of Education (2013) found reading for pleasure ‘to be more important for children's cognitive development between ages 10 and 16 than their parents' level of education.’  Similarly a study by Oxford University (2011) found ‘16-year-olds who read books at least once a month were significantly more likely to be in a professional or managerial job at 33 than those who didn’t read books at all’.
