Webinar recording: Keys to Scaling Your Lecture Capture Program

Webinar recording: Keys to Scaling Your Lecture Capture Program | REC:all | Scoop.it

What do you wish you had known as you grew your lecture-capture program from a single building to an entire department, campus or even system? Four years ago, as the University of Colorado at Boulder was planning a lecture capture pilot, Duncan McBogg took a deep-dive and documented everything they would need to consider. Later, as the university’s Academic Technology Support department took their pilot campus-wide, he put his studies into practice and implemented strategies for better communication, documentation, security, analytics, content management and distribution. Duncan is ready to share what he\'s learned about what comes after the initial planning process and the realities of scaling a lecture capture initiative.

Screencasting: How To Start, Tools and Guidelines | Smashing Magazine

Screencasting: How To Start, Tools and Guidelines | Smashing Magazine | REC:all | Scoop.it
Some companies have made a living creating a sort of “virtual classroom,” allowing members to learn at their own pace when they have the time using video tutorials. The advantages of the classroom setting stem from a one on one experience and the ability of the instructor to show the ideas and theories rather than simply explain them. Screencasting, or sharing your virtual desktop via video presentation, has exploded in popularity with the advent of podcasting, and gives you the ability to bring the classroom feel to a media presentation that can be delivered over the Internet. The medium of screencasting is readily available to everyone and with a few tools of the trade you can be ready to produce your own.

A few good tips.

Lecture Capture: The Student View | Panopto | REC:all | Scoop.it

"Lecture capture is a no-brainer. Above all the students want it, and I believe they will demand it in the future. It has improved my learning experience and it is an extremely valuable resource for exam revision.

Once the fears of being recorded and the number of attendees dropping at lectures fades, more universities and their academics will see lecture capture as an asset to the overall lecture experience, not a hindrance."

From video learning bytes to video courses to video uploading via mobile devices - it is all about video. As such, LMS vendors will need to make changes to their platforms.
Clive Young's insight:

"Here is the one thing to remember - VIDEO IS GOING TO BE HOT. In 2014, I believe it will be the year of video for consumers in e-learning, specifically with content and as a one off on that – in the LMS." We are inceasingly seeing how video drives traffic into the VLE, which allows us to be more creative with the VLE itself...

Joanna Kori, a TATA e-learning consultant, uses Kolb action learning cycle to model the components of the flipped classroom. Gives a case study of an app-enabled CPD programme, but equally relevant (I think) for the research-based, e-enabled teaching the Provost is advocating.

How to pick the best MOOCs: 6 tips from a Coursera junkie

How to pick the best MOOCs: 6 tips from a Coursera junkie | REC:all | Scoop.it
Feynman Liang has finished more than 36 online classes, putting the 21-year-old in the upper ranks of MOOC veterans. Here are his tips for picking classes.
Clive Young's insight:

Liang's views on video: Some online courses offer highly produced videos with graphics and animations and artfully shot sequences, while others just stick a professor in front of a camera. But don’t dismiss a whole course just because the videos don’t seem up to par. An electrical engineering course he took on Coursera didn’t have great videos, but Liang said it was on of the best classes he’s taken online. So, what’s a better way to evaluate a class early on? Test out a class for a couple of weeks to get a sense of the professor’s personality and commitment level. Assignments and quizzes that just ask you to recall material covered in the video might indicate that the professor is doing the online thing because of a university initiative, not a real personal interest, while more thought-provoking questions and problem sets could show that the teacher is really invested, Liang said.
