Children rebel

Maxine Peat's insight:

I don't exactly agree that if parents let children explore more then teenagers would not rebel. I do however agree with the author's insight about why teenagers rebel and the fact that almost every teen has done some sort of rebellious activity. I believe though, that rebellious activities that do not have a sound moral base or reason, are hazardous to a person's future and the future of their loved ones.

Maxine Peat's insight:

This is yet another good example of young men doing something they thought would be awesome and funny, turned out to be jail time for them.  In rebellion of the law and probably because they thought this would either get them friends or famous, they stole a chicken statue and rode it down a street. This led to probation and jail time for all three. Rebellion definately does not end well for those who don't plan well and who are doing it for the wrong reasons, such as these boys.

The Friendship Tattoo That My Friends Bailed On

My tattoo. I have a tattoo, which is no big deal — plenty of people have tattoos, and often those tattoos are meaningful works of art with their own provenance stories.
Maxine Peat's insight:

This is an example of someone doing a well-known rebellious act for a different reason that to just be a rebel. She got a tattoo thinking that her best friend would do the same but her friend bailed on her at the last minute. This poor girl regrets that decision and wishes she hadn't done it. similarly, as we age usually we regret the rebellious decisions we make as immature youth.

Lez Get Real
Not familiar with the Stonewall Riots? For many, this single moment in 1969 was the flashpoint for the modern gay movement.
Maxine Peat's insight:

If you ignore the part about wanting donations, this blog has a lot of detail about multiple rebillions that had real meaning behind them and led to positive changes in the world and our laws. These include everything from Rosa Parks to the 19th Amendment. These were all rebellions that were morally just and that were done for the right reasons, not just reckless and stupid behavior.

Maxine Peat's insight:

This is a perfect example of how youth, especially teenagers, see things when rules are enforced or implemented. They want to rebel, push against "The Man" who is confining them. This does not always involve harmful or dangerous behavior, but in a lot of cases it does. This is a negative example of what rebelling, mostly reckless, can do.
