Venezuela - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Where would workers be without labor unions? - Arizona Republic | real utopias | Scoop.it

Labor Day falls in an interesting time of our political season, when the primary race ends and the general-election cycle begins. No doubt politicians will praise workers on the day that pays tribute to their contributions to the strength and well-being of our nation, but most candidates likely will avoid mentioning the words union or labor.

On Labor Day, workers still need a fair wage and affordable health care (Your ... - The Post-Standard - syracuse.com (blog) | real utopias | Scoop.it

While the job market has certainly improved since last Labor Day, wages and compensation have remained stagnant since the end of the Great Recession. Several states and even some cities across the nation are debating raising the minimum wage while Congress and the President remain in gridlock on the issue. In a time when the stock market has reached new highs with record corporate profits, it is time to share some of that wealth for the workers whose labor helped create those profits in the first place. Even some from the ultra right have called upon raising the minimum wage so that low wage earners no longer need taxpayer financed subsidies for food and healthcare. They argue that placing further burden on the middle class taxpayer to support underpaid workers of profitable corporations is tantamount to corporate welfare.

The Shame Of Labor Day - Forbes

The Shame Of Labor Day - Forbes | real utopias | Scoop.it

“Labor Day,” writes Harold Meyerson in the Washington Post, has become a “mocking reminder that this nation once honored workers.” Why are workers no longer honored and rewarded? It wasn’t globalization. It wasn’t technology.  It was, he says, executives grabbing almost all the earnings for shareholders and themselves, leaving insufficient resources for the organization to grow, let alone the remunerate the workers for the gains in productivity their work has engendered.
