The Plot Of Russian Liberals Against Putin By Vasily Koltashov & Boris Kagarlitsky

The Plot Of Russian Liberals Against Putin By Vasily Koltashov & Boris Kagarlitsky | real utopias | Scoop.it

It seems that Russian authorities have found a way towards accommodation with the West. Liberals have become more powerful and are leading the talks.[2] They are ready to make concessions and see no problem in the sacrifice of Novorossiya, and, if necessary, even Russia’s own interests. There’s just one remaining question: who will remove the Russian President’s head and present it on a platter to the USA?

On the Left or in Russia? The Strange Case of Foreign pro-Kremlin Radical Leftists | KRYTYKA

On the Left or in Russia? The Strange Case of Foreign pro-Kremlin Radical Leftists | KRYTYKA | real utopias | Scoop.it
All governments face people living beyond their borders, both foreign and native-born, who are either detractors or advocates of its policies. Vladimir Putin’s government is no different from any other in this respect. What is odd about the Russian case is that radical leftists are among those who support the Russian ruling class and its decidedly capitalist and imperialist government.

Russia's “Humanitarian Invasion”: As Kiev Tries to Terrorize Donetsk Into ... - Center for Research on Globalization | real utopias | Scoop.it

The West is trying to turn the Russian humanitarian aid convoy “… into a duplicitous dangerous act because it would better fit with the kind of scenario that they have been putting forth about Russia being a predator or being the provocateur,” says renowned author Dr. Michael Parenti, a political scientist from Yale University, a historian, and a cultural critic, in an interview with Radio VR.

Strange bedfellows: Putin, the Chomskyite left and the ghosts of the Cold War - Salon

Strange bedfellows: Putin, the Chomskyite left and the ghosts of the Cold War - Salon | real utopias | Scoop.it

Putin’s annexation of Crimea was clearly a violation of international law, as Chomsky agrees. But the nation that led the illegal invasion of Iraq and is firing drones into Pakistan and Somalia and Yemen and wherever else is really in no position to complain about that. The West is making a big stink over Ukraine not because it actually gives a crap about the Ukrainian people’s democratic yearnings or whatever, but because the Obama administration had effectively claimed that country for Western capitalism and drawn a “red line” at the Russian border. Putin’s decision to cross that line, in the words of Boston Globe columnist Thanassis Cambanis, marked a moment of rupture in “the order that America and its allies have come to rely on since the end of the Cold War.”

ZCommunications » Fate of Donetsk is Being Decided in Kharkov | real utopias | Scoop.it

The preliminary outcome of the revolt in south-eastern Ukraine can be described as an unstable equilibrium. Attempting to crush the Donetsk republic with the help of their armed forces, the Kiev authorities have met with defeat. The army, as expected, has refused steadfastly to wage war on its own people, and the forces of the Right Sector and National Guard have clearly been insufficient to cope even with the militia, not to speak of the mass of protestors.

Boris Kagarlitsky: Crimea annexes Russia | A Socialist in Canada | real utopias | Scoop.it

Moscow, March 24, 2014 – No, that’s not a mistake in the headline. On March 18, Crimea annexed Russia. There were no insidious schemes or imperial ambitions involved. There was, however, a spontaneously developing situation, together with the usual, everyday willingness of the Crimean bosses, who saw a unique chance in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

The Bolsheviks and Workers Control

The Bolsheviks and Workers Control | real utopias | Scoop.it

The Bolsheviks and Workers Control is a remarkable pamphlet by Maurice Brinton exposing the struggle that took place over the running of workplaces in the immediate aftermath of the Russian Revolution. In doing so not only does it demolish the romantic Leninist 'history' of the relationship between the working class and their party during these years (1917 - 21) but it also provides a backbone to understanding why the Russian revolution failed in the way it did. From this understanding flows alternative possibilities of revolutionary organisation and some 26 years after the original was written this is perhaps its greatest contribution today. For this reason alone this text deserves the greatest possible circulation today and we encourage you to link to it, download the text or otherwise circulate it.

Russia's gathering storm - Socialist Worker Online

Russia's gathering storm - Socialist Worker Online | real utopias | Scoop.it

In the late summer of 1989--with the fall of the Berlin Wall weeks away, signaling the collapse of the former USSR's empire in Eastern Europe--the upheaval that would ultimately overturn the Stalinist system was felt within the USSR itself. A wave of mass strikes by miners gathered momentum, with the most important center of militancy being the Donbass region of Ukraine--then still a part of the USSR. The mass miners' strikes were a sign that the unraveling of the ex-USSR was already well underway. In Socialist Worker's September 1989 edition, we featured a special report on the miners' revolt--and an analysis of what it meant for the government of then-President Mikhail Gorbachev.

How US Evangelicals Helped Create Russia's Anti-Gay Movement - Mother Jones | real utopias | Scoop.it

Anti-gay groups have made tormenting the LGBT community a national and organized affair:Vigilante gangs have used social media to lure hundreds of gay people to fake dates and then disseminate videos of them being beaten or sexually humiliated, garnering hundreds of thousands of followers. Arrests and beatings at gay rights demonstrations are commonplace. This month, LGBT activists were arrested in Moscow and St. Petersburg hours before the Olympic opening ceremony and have been detained in Sochi itself.
