Fight the Nine Symptoms of Corporate Decline | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
How to know if your organizational culture is turning toxic, and what to do about it.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

"Rifts widen and inequities grow." There is probably little that is more nefarious and destructive in a work environment than the existence of "privileged elite" factions who always seem to have support, resources, and credit when everyone else is relegated to the realm of Epsilons—mere robots carrying out deeds as instructed, and never allowed to contribute anything, always told (directly or tacitly) that their efforts are worthless.

The Giglio imbroglio - The public inauguration of a new moral McCarthyism

The Giglio imbroglio - The public inauguration of a new moral McCarthyism | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
Barack Obama and those organizing his upcoming inauguration have effectively declared historic, biblical Christianity to be out of bounds.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

It's disturbing to think that any president can get away with saying, "we will ensure their beliefs reflect this administration's vision of inclusion and acceptance for all Americans" as if his job was to impose his vision on a nation...to say nothing of the fact that his vision clearly doesn't include any Americans who disagree with his vision. I get and am glad that there are essential rights that are common to ALL Americans through the Constitution, but I'm troubled that the mode of "curing" many ills of the past is to alienate a new group of people. The president is responsible for uniting people. This guy has divided this nation more than any other...pretty tough to do with Nixon and Clinton in the rear view mirror of history.

Behind Armstrong's Decision to Talk

Behind Armstrong's Decision to Talk | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
Mr. Armstrong is launching a public campaign to restore his image. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey taped Monday and scheduled for broadcast Thursday, Mr. Armstrong was expected to admit to using performance-enhancing drugs.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

I can appreciate a true change of heart, but I'm not impressed by the decision to use the Oprah platform to try and begin redeeming what will only then be truly confessed. Redemption and reconciliation ought to be the goal behind every confession of sin, so I don't begrudge the man for trying to finally come clean and make the path. But doing so in the bosom of Oprah's celebrity makes me a bit uncomfortable...like it's the same game of him trying not to be a total loser/cheater and deal with the consequences.

Fred Barnes: The President Who Wants It All

Fred Barnes: The President Who Wants It All | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
In The Wall Street Journal, Fred Barnes writes that the essence of bipartisan deals is win-win, where both sides are satisfied—but Obama's approach, as the fiscal cliff showed again, is that he alone wins.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

Here is what we're dealing with...someone who isn't interested in making nice for the sake of the nation...someone who manages to make deals with hostile governments around the world, but not leaders of the opposing party in the nation he is paid to govern. His disinterest in agendas other than his own is disturbing to say the least...sickening and terrifying in reality.

Why Are Women Writers Still Stuck Behind Pseudonyms?

Why Are Women Writers Still Stuck Behind Pseudonyms? | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
Some of the biggest heroines of—and authors of—genre fiction these days are women. Suzanne Collins conjured Katniss Everdeen for the Hunger Games series. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books and the movies based on them are massive hits.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

I certainly don't expect men to be interested in Harlequin Romances—which are their own brand of fantasy, I suppose—but it really IS rather idiotic to continue this aiding and abetting of foolish stereotypes. I'm not much of the plethora of feminist arguments that seem to assert no abiding, sacred distinctions between men and women (unless it happens to be convenient at the moment). Yet it does seem rather shallow to think of 21 century publishers unwilling to widen the gates in this area.
