A Picture Book A Day

A Picture Book A Day | Reading and Writing | Scoop.it

A new picture book review every few days. The books seem to be for primary aged students, yet they have an appeal that any reader would appreciate. A sample of reviews on Amazon indicate these are worthy additions to consider when book buying. For example, Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger is highly rated. Ms Seeger's Lemons Are Not Red is regularly signed out at my school library, read by library helpers, and the Kindergarten teachers love it.

Repeat posting ... Recently, parent volunteers and student library helpers have been adding these reading strategy labels as tags to my school library's database. This has greatly improved search and find capabilities. Next step is to promote use among teachers and create visibility of these resources.

I like Teacher Mentor Texts for the quick descriptions about the books and suggested uses in the class. While 'not news', this review has the idea of using a single book for multiple teachings/learnings across various grades.

Gr 1-3 Top 10 Back to School Picture Books

Gr 1-3 Top 10 Back to School Picture Books | Reading and Writing | Scoop.it

One teacher's Top 10. The idea accompanying This School Year Will Be The Best! could be used Gr. 1 - 8 ... wouldn't use book past Gr 3.  Bill Peet's Big Bad Bruce is a more lengthy read aloud; it is effective as a springboard for discussing bullying.

Interesting lists and links to other lists. It gave me ideas to add search tags to books in my school library, e.g., boys chapter books.
