ParadigmGallery's insight:

Built in 1907, the Library Lofts building is situated across from the downtown branch of the Detroit Public Library and is the oldest surviving structure to have housed the J.L. Hudson store on Woodward adorn the building's lobby.http://www.studiozonedetroit.com/lofts/library-lofts/

Industral Loft 002 With Cozy Accents in Toronto, Canada | Raw and Real Interior Design | Scoop.it
What's your view at interior design with strong industrial elements? If you think its utilitarian nature cannot be tamed, you should revise your opinion. Loft 002 in Toronto, Canada, is a proof that rawness of old workshops and warehouses converted into living spaces can be concealed with the right decor. The loft used to look very unappealing,…

Aircon House– a DIY project to beat them all

Aircon House– a DIY project to beat them all | Raw and Real Interior Design | Scoop.it
How on earth do you go about converting all 6,000 square foot of a one-time industrial building into a habitable living space? John Crace finds out
ParadigmGallery's insight:

Aircon House started out as a rocking-horse factory in the 19th century, and over the years has seen life as a stage set factory, a builders' merchants and an air-conditioning fittings factory (hence its name).

The owners, Eric Guibert and Robin Pembrooke, simply wanted more space. They certainly got it – 6,000 square feet of it.

Aircon House is charming. In this article you will see the beginning conversion efforts, but they had big plans for their home.

A refined Chicago conversion.....

Capturing the sun

One of Frances and Jim’s motives for renovating a decades-old warehouse is to show that, with a little imagination, abandoned city buildings can be reused. In a neighborhood sitting between industrial and residential areas, their home demonstrates the elegance of reuse, the power of good design and the promise of new energy technology.

Visit the home of Nadine and Matthieu, a duplex apartment in the Canal Saint Martin quarter (10th arrondissement of  the Paris).

This home has many raw elements, combined with a very creative and refined taste level.

When Matthieu was interviewed by Flodeau he gave a wonderful response to the question:

What you like least in interior design today ?

The whole ‘trendy-trends’ phenomenon that floats above decoration and interior design   – it seems a lot of people improvise themselves as professional decorators or interior designers. Most of them lack in originality and merely duplicate what’s fashionable. There is no spirit or soul in what they offer. To me, interiors have to tell stories.

...and I also appreciate this:

Your best decoration advice ?

Do things for yourself and not for the others. Don’t try to copycat interior design magazines. At the end of the day, you’ll never feel better than in a home that reflects who you are !!

Warehouse Renovation Showcases Sustainable Materials

Warehouse Renovation Showcases Sustainable Materials | Raw and Real Interior Design | Scoop.it
When Atlanta based ad agency The Jones Group decided it was time to revamp their image and headquarters, they turned to designer Caryn Grossman of CG Creative Interiors to complete the task. With two early 1900's warehouses now in her hands and limitless possibilities,
ParadigmGallery's insight:

Caryn Grossman's  carefully drafted program called for the application of only sustainable materials and low-impact fabrication and construction, and what resulted was a striking environment ready to stir creativity within the new office.

Grossman worked closely with People of Resource another Atlanta firm also focused on using local and sustainable materials. Together they created furnishings and finishings made from Kirei Board, a reclaimed waste product of the sorghum industry, and Chroma, a renewable material from 3-form, which gave a colorful kick to the custom desks, conference tables, and brainstorming areas.

Family-Friendly Renovation of a Brick Warehouse in Alabama

Family-Friendly Renovation of a Brick Warehouse in Alabama | Raw and Real Interior Design | Scoop.it
In Alabama, a commercial building with a multifarious past begins a fresh chapter for a young family after a modern renovation.
ParadigmGallery's insight:

Love, love, love....contrasting to the student apartments around Auburn University, this industrial space was built in 1920 as a mercantile space in a thriving African-American neighborhood during segregation. The building has since hosted several pool halls, a barbershop, a Baptist church, a few cab companies, several restaurants, and, rather dubiously, a “fish shop.”

When the Hills purchased the building, they were unaware of its backstory —it was merely a termite-infested plumbing storehouse with a promising brick-and-concrete exterior. “During construction our neighbors kept coming up and sharing stories about getting their hair cut here, or eating here when it was a cafe,” David says. “We realized we had to be a little more careful. This thing had a life, a more interesting life, than we had ever imagined. We kind of stepped back a little bit and didn’t do some of the architectural moves that we originally thought we were going to do.”

The story is very interesting and the journey of renovating this building had some important messages for anyone taking on a project like this.

Bravo....Hill Family
