Nelson Mandela, Transformational Leader

Nelson Mandela, Transformational Leader | Hot Upcoming Events! News! Random Thoughts | Scoop.it
Every entrepreneur, almost by definition, sets out to change something--an inefficient market, a previously unsolvable customer problem, an ossified internal culture. Compared to what Nelson Mandela changed in his country’s political arena all that seems rather petty. But what allowed him to succeed against utterly improbable odds were the same characteristics that you need to employ in effecting lasting change in your business arena. Leading through change takes earned authority, authenticity, commitment, mastery of communication and consistency of message.

So what if I told you Mickey Mouse was a part of the conspiracy that fooled you into believing that Apollo 11 landed on the moon?
Via flygc
Sky Sirewest's insight:
Ok. Now it's my turn. We went from can't get a missile off the ground to landing on the moon over night! When I look in my own un-tampered with telescope & see the flag on the moon myself ...I'll be partially convinced. Seeing that an unmanned mission could have placed it there. The moon is PRIME real-estate! In technology...everything the leader does the others try to out do. So why in 40 yrs give or take hasn't anyone from any country including our own been back to the moon. There is ZEEEEEERO logic to this. Sending unmanned missions to Mars but not exploiting what is a hand -throw away from us? No- I'm not buying that! Now on the other hand I've heard the arguments. So anything is possible. I'm not convinced yet. However, this is a great discussion & I'm open to ideas!

Will plug-in electric cars crash the electric grid?

Will plug-in electric cars crash the electric grid? | Hot Upcoming Events! News! Random Thoughts | Scoop.it
The growing number of plug-in electric cars — more than 96,000 bought in 2013 — may put a lot of new strain on the nation’s aging electrical distribution systems, like transformers and underground cables, especially at times of peak demand, according to University of Vermont (UVM) scientists. So they have created a novel solution, which they report on in the forthcoming March issue of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid.“The key to our approach is to break up the request for power from each car into multiple small chunks — into packets,” says Jeff Frolik, a professor in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and co-author on the new study. This is similar to transmitting data packets on the Internet.By using the nation’s growing network of “smart meters” — a new generation of household electric meters that communicate information back-and-forth between a house and the utility — the new approach would let a car charge for, say, five or ten minutes at a time, Frolik says, and then wait to make another request for power. If demand was low, it would continue charging, but if it was high, the car would have to wait.“Most of the time, as long as people get charged by morning, they won’t care,” says UVM’s Paul Hines, an expert on power systems and co-author on the study. “By charging cars in this way, it’s really easy to let everybody share the capacity that is available on the grid.”

A Living Death: Faces of Those Sentenced to Life for Non-Violent Crimes

A Living Death: Faces of Those Sentenced to Life for Non-Violent Crimes | Hot Upcoming Events! News! Random Thoughts | Scoop.it
Thousands are serving life for petty crimes in America.
Sky Sirewest's insight:
Some of these sentences are ridiculous others maybe too harsh. Please see these cases and decide for yourself. Then the ones you feel are not right, google the address of your congressman and senator and demand a correction be made. Don't leave out a letter to the president. Or simply write about the whole situation. Jail is full of good people. If you go there and pray with them you will find out. Of course we know there is the other side... some people either never go or are there for a minute when outside of the grace of God they should never see the light of day. This is personal because at any given moment no matter who you are or what race you could be innocent yet caught up.
