SOtM sMS-200 networked audio adapter - Review by The Hans Beekhuyzen Project

SOtM sMS-200 networked audio adapter - Review by The Hans Beekhuyzen Project | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

"Is it that good? Yes it is"

An excellent review of the SOtM sMS-200. Hans Beekhuyzen compared it with the highly rated microRendu using the same model power supply, and commented "right away the microRendu was over taken by the SOtM." Other notable comments - "better while the price is lower", "the sound is even more relaxed and open in the mid range and also the lows are better controlled"

Note: We will have the mentioned sBooster power supply soon! As well there is the compatible SOtM mBPS-d2s power supply - a unique and smart dual-cell battery supply that completely eliminates any down-time due to a flat battery.

High-end Bluetooth audio with Wyred 4 Sound's bLINK - DAR Knock Out Award!

High-end Bluetooth audio with Wyred 4 Sound's bLINK - DAR Knock Out Award! | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

Not all Bluetooth receivers are born equal. The Wyred 4 Sound’s Bluetooth signal is reclocked before output to the DAC. It sounds markedly better than the Bluetooth stream spilling from AURALiC’s Aries Mini. More fluid in the midrange and less metallicised in the treble. It’s what we might call Next Level Bluetooth.

Wyred 4 Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by MonoAndStereo.com

Wyred 4 Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by MonoAndStereo.com | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

More sparkle and more air. More depth and smooth sonics. More openness and more analogue sound. More umph and more relaxation, a more sexy sound (if a sound can be sexy - in my opinion it can!) and more toe movements.

Now that all sounds quite simple doesn’t it? Maybe it isn´t, I dont know. I am not an electrical digital engineer, I am just a humble sound engineer for 35+ years at (amongst others) the National TV, and a HiFi critic for 25+ years. So I am not knowing what these electrical zeroes and ones actually do inside this small unit, what I know is that this Recovery does a hell of a job to my good ol´ ears.

Soltanus Acoustics ESL Virtuoso - Review by Audio Test Magazine

Soltanus Acoustics ESL Virtuoso - Review by Audio Test Magazine | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

Translated from German:

.....

The special feature of the Virtuoso is razor sharp [accurate] lower frequency range, which cannot be said for most other electrostatics. There are songs with electronic bass and bass drum that are difficult to disentangle. We have never been able, until now...

.....

It’s like re-discovering your favorite music all over again and this time properly! ESL Virtuoso delivers hugely in the midrange and treble range.

.....

For example, we have rarely heard pianos and harpsichords so vividly, freshly and naturally.

.....

The Virtuoso delivers each overtone so precisely, giving us impression that we are right in front of the sound source.

.....

These special speakers are highly recommended

Ray Ng's insight:

The title spells it out - a "new generation" of electrostatics!

Wyred4Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by DAR

Wyred4Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by DAR | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

The Wyred4Sound Recovery seems to matter more than one’s chosen USB cable or playback software – a most effective antidote to digititus and therefore a 100% essential piece of the puzzle. For yours truly, when listening for pleasure, the Recovery must be part of the digital audio chain of command.

Review of SOtM tX-USBhubIn by Kalman Robinson, Stereophile

Review of SOtM tX-USBhubIn by Kalman Robinson, Stereophile | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

SOtM describes the tX-USBhubIn as an "Audio USB 2.0 Hub" with "Ultra Low Noise Regulator," "Ultra Low Jitter Clock," and "Active Noise Canceller,"

.....

Switching from the XR3's stock USB connector, the SOtM hub and clock made an easily audible improvement in the sound of a system that I'd already thought sounded entirely satisfying. Although measuring the sound levels before and after produced identical results, my immediate impression was that the music was now louder and clearer—an impression gained because I could now hear subtle distinctions in the midrange with much greater ease.

.....

Note: An equivalent product but designed to be used externally is the SOtM tX-USBhubEx

Boenicke Audio W5 – Review by HiFi Knights

Boenicke Audio W5 – Review by HiFi Knights | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

There is no grain in Sven’s monitors sound, no sharpness. I honestly know of no setup which could force those to behave in such way. On top of all things, this airy yet quite saturated and marvelously detailed presentation is addictive. To a point where listening for pure pleasure occurs instead of focusing on where weak spots might be. That doesn’t happen that often...

...

Moving on, W5’s size might suggest that those belong solely to nearfield environment. Wrong again, in larger areas our monitors feel as comfy as fish in the water.

...

Long story short, the unique W5’s are the best monitors I’ve had a pleasure of familiarizing myself with thus far. This very product is no less than an audiophile macho syndrome slayer.

...

Boenicke Audio W5’s inconspicuousness is merely a facade, a mind trick master Yoda himself wouldn’t be ashamed of and on top of all things it surely serves as a manifestation of talented Sven’s black sense of humour. At this point I can only add that his Swiss Happiness in a Box is an end-game nearfield speaker for yours truly.

GigaWatt PC-4 EVO DCB - Review by 6moons

GigaWatt PC-4 EVO DCB - Review by 6moons | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

Compare it to raw utility power. I predict that will strike you as chlorinated tap water to leave a bad taste.

...

Finally and given the inevitable costs of today's flagship systems, what the GigaWatt PC-4 EVO DCB adds above and beyond its sonic benefits is peace of mind from catastrophic events. That it manages to incorporate such protection without compromising the sound should be a credit to its clearly gifted and resourceful designer.

SOtM sHP-100 DAC and Headphone Amplifier - Review by Eric's HiFi Blog

SOtM sHP-100 DAC and Headphone Amplifier - Review by Eric's HiFi Blog | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

The sHP-100 impressed me with a very coherent presentation and performance that punched well above its price range. Tonally, it has a slightly sweet and laidback presentation. Detail retrieval was quite good and soundstaging had an open and wide quality.

...

It communicated the musical message clearly, and you could relax and enjoy yourself. On this front, it succeeds where a lot of more expensive equipment do not.

...

The sHP-100 really packs a punch. Consider this a knock-out.

SST Son of Ampzilla II Power Amp - Review by HiFi Plus

SST Son of Ampzilla II Power Amp - Review by HiFi Plus | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

To sum up, my time with the Son of Ampzilla II has been both a revelation and a privilege. I have never found such a high performing solid-state amplifier at this price point. Generally, it would take a big step up in price to reach these sonic heights. It is also my first opportunity to spend significant time with a James Bongiorno design. But there are so many good designers and so little time to sample their work, I suppose! Highly Recommended.

Tellurium Q Ultra Silver Digital Cable - Review by MonoAndStereo.com

Tellurium Q Ultra Silver Digital Cable - Review by MonoAndStereo.com | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

With this TQ cable you can look into and right through the artists performance. And that’s what’s it all about, if you ask me. This cable is doing everything just right - though I don’t know how it is constructed and designed. What I know is that the sound is more lively, more intriguing and more open wide in all directions, so you as the listener just want more and more of this beautiful rendered music.

I’ll give this TQ cable 6 out of 5 stars, my dear friends.
Please don’t just take my word for it, go get it for yourself and give this Tellurium Q Ultra Silver Digital Cable a thorough listen. This is GOOD!!!

Wyred4Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by AudioAficionado.org

Wyred4Sound Recovery USB Reclocker - Review by AudioAficionado.org | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it
The Recovery contributed remarkable definition to the horns, piano, bass, drums, and cymbals....Who would have thought such a tiny little black box at this remarkable price point ... could elevate high-resolution playback so conveniently with such astonishing success. In less than five days my attitude concerning the Wyred 4 Sound Recovery was transformed from assuming it to be just one more USB toy to understanding and thoroughly appreciating the Recovery’s positive and valuable strengths to elevating USB playback to new levels. Wyred 4 Sound continues to deliver unique audio products that improve our audio experiences without destroying your bank account. The Recovery hits that bullseye dead center. Needless to say, this little jewel has found a new home.

SPEC Corporation RSA-M3EX Amplifier - Review by The Ear

SPEC Corporation RSA-M3EX Amplifier - Review by The Ear | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

After an enthusiastic review the conclusion can only be positive for the SPEC RSA-M3EX amplifier. I had to get used to the amp, it first seemed a little plain and underpowered compared to my own amplifiers. An opinion that soon needed adjustment and turned 180 degrees into appreciation of its pure, delicate and undistorted sound quality. Deep bass notes might seem to lack power at first, but soon I found out that bass is so tight, fast and uncoloured that it only attracts less attention. This was even clearer after changing from small monitor speakers to large transmission lines. Also consider the near perfect stereo image of the RSA-M3EX, the spatial sound and the purity of the reproduced music. Every class D amplifier I have heard had a specific class D signature that I could never get used to, I always returned to more conventional designs with a preference for class A. That is until I listened to the SPEC RSA-M3EX, an amplifier that makes me forget the technology and sounds so good that I would like to own one.

...

A final word: I often get the impression that Japanese high end products have a soul, a part of the designers aura stays under the hood. The SPEC is among these products, Shirokazu Yazaki has me under his spell.

Heed Audio Elixir Integrated Amp - Review by Paul Rigby | The Audiophile Man

Heed Audio Elixir Integrated Amp - Review by Paul Rigby | The Audiophile Man | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

Rarely have I heard an integrated amplifier, packed so full of features and available at such a reasonable price, sound so good. The sense of clarity was a joy to behold and gave each piece of music life and sparkle. The instrumental separation was aided by the air and space within the soundstage that offered the performers time while the latter also performed with a sense of relaxation and ease and that allowed the music to flow with a sense of style.

There is no doubt, the Heed Elixir is a brilliant amp and the best integrated, at this price point, that I’ve ever heard.

Gradient 6.0 – Review by HiFi Knights

Gradient 6.0 – Review by HiFi Knights | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

It’s hard not to acknowledge how impressive space Gradient 6.0 create both in front and to the sides of the listener.

...

Gradient 6.0 doesn’t paint a sweet picture, it leans more towards truth and detailing and also serves as a proof that quite small, inconspicuous floorstanders can put many listeners in a state of positive shock soundwise as these sound plainly big. Jorma Salmi knew exactly what he was doing. Music this coherent, detailed and smooth isn’t a case of mere coincidence. 6.0’s soundstaging capabilities are enormous, the same story goes with precision.

...

All things considered, its price/performance ratio is off the charts as in many regards it clearly is able to throw punches way above its weight.

Gradient 6.0 - Review by StereoLife Magazine

Gradient 6.0 - Review by StereoLife Magazine | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

The question posed at the end of the previous paragraph can therefore be answered simply - yes, these very light and inconspicuous loudspeakers can really deliver good sound. Not only that - they go beyond the average level of this price range. 6.0 not only have a high neutrality, but also very interesting bass, great soundstage, coherence and precision.

...

The ideal speaker for small and mid-sized living rooms? To a large extent, yes, and certainly some of the best that you can get for this price. 6.0 is not only a successful, competitive product, but also something that happens very rarely - modest equipment, which under appropriate conditions can reveal some features associated with high-end loudspeakers. Soundstage, consistency, realism and a certain finesse of handling the music. Even apart from the properties, the Finnish floorstanders are a very cool "thing" that you will enjoy having home. Simple as that.

SST Thoebe II Preamplifier & Son of Ampzilla II Amplifier - Review by 10 Audio

SST Thoebe II Preamplifier & Son of Ampzilla II Amplifier - Review by 10 Audio | Raindrop Audio | Scoop.it

On par with the sound from a [US]$11,400 Levinson 326S with phono, although I think the Thoebe II’s phono stage is better.

.....

The Son of Ampzilla II performs at the top of its price level and above with a very neutral, near-characterless sound. I found it honors music at least as well as the Levinson No. 532h, Parasound JC-1, Manley Neo Classic 250 or Bryston 7BSST2. It seems more dynamic than the Levinson, lower distortion - in the audible transition from Class A to Class AB operation that helps to define the sound of the JC-1 - than the Parasound, a bit more extended in the treble than the Manley, and more realistic and true sounding than the Bryston monoblocks. The SOA II has a similar overall presentation as the Class A Pass XA 30.8, where the latter pulls out a small extra sweetness and upper frequency purity, typical of a good Class A amplifier. The Pass offers somewhat more perceived fullness in the mid to low bass. Soundstage depth is a couple of meters less than offered by the Pass amp. The SST amp can comfortably play a lot louder. The Son of Ampzilla II is a very transparent, very low distortion amp that gets the hell out the way so the music gets through.

.....

More than most other preamps or amplifiers that I can recall under $10,000, these new components from SST deserve and actually demand your attention. All components have some intrinsic character, but the particular tendencies of these components are minor. I could live with either or both of these fine components. The SST Thoebe II preamplifier and Son of Ampzilla II amplifier are screaming bargains at their relatively modest asking prices.
