Communautés sociales & contenu média (par Martin Lessard)

Communautés sociales & contenu média (par Martin Lessard) | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Twitter Launches Twitter #music App and Service

Twitter Launches Twitter #music App and Service | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
witter's new standalone music service finally arrives today on your desktop, but even more importantly, on your go-everywhere iPhone.

The social media company unveiled the new service on Good Morning America and in a blog post. Called "Twitter #music" — yes, the hashtag is intentional —the app "uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists," Twitter wrote in the post.

The free app and service will also be a home for music-related information, so you can find and follow musicians and learn more about which musicians they follow, which will then, of course, lead to more music discovery.

Twitter’s New Music App Launches Friday | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Next up on the jukebox — Twitter Music.

The microblogging service plans to launch its new, standalone music application on Friday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The app suggests artists and tracks to users based on a number of personalized signals, including the Twitter accounts a user follows on the microblogging service. Users will be able to listen to clips of music from inside the app, using third-party services like iTunes, Soundcloud; they will also be able to watch music videos provided by Vevo, the music video service owned by Universal Music and Sony.

Facebook, e-mail solidly outpace Twitter for listener-connection, says The Infinite Dial | RAIN Summit West NABNewsletter

Facebook, e-mail solidly outpace Twitter for listener-connection, says The Infinite Dial | RAIN Summit West NABNewsletter | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

...

Edison Research president Larry Rosin and Arbitron SVP of Marketing Bill Rose at the Summit revisited the important points from last week's "The Infinite Dial 2013: Navigating Digital Platforms" webinar. But they also explained that their study shows the value of radio's Facebook presence and e-mail listener databases, especially when compared to Twitter. One in ten U.S. radio listeners says they follow their favorite station on Facebook, and 20 million U.S. radio listeners have signed up to receive e-mail from their P1 station (that's 8% of radio listeners), depending on the format (public radio, religious, and rock listeners were most likely to join a station's e-mail list…up to 20% for rock listeners).

On the other hand, just 2% or 3% follow their "P1" station on Twitter. (Twitter's influence, especially in the media, Rosin said, is far greater than its actual usage, they've found.) Bill Rose explained that your station's will likely be your listener base's most tech-savvy segment (including being most likely to use online radio and listen via mobile apps).

Their takeaway: the listeners on your e-mail list can be an extremely valuable asset for you and your advertising clients.

Facebook: Friend or Foe to Music Marketers?

Facebook: Friend or Foe to Music Marketers? | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Some people haven’t forgiven Facebook for the changes it made last year to its news feed algorithm, alterations that ratcheted down the audience reach for some posts written on behalf of brand.

“You can spend a lot of time building up these audiences, but when things change constantly on the platform, it’s very challenging,” Dorothy Hui, Roc Nation’s Vice President of Digital Marketing, said of Facebook during a social media summit hosted by the Recording Academy prior to the Grammy Awards.

No doubt, Facebook’s tweaks, discussed in detail in the March 2, 2013 issue of Billboard, altered the playing field for bands and marketers who rely on the social network to get the word out. “It’s very risky to build your business on someone else’s platform,” said Paul Verna, senior analyst with eMarketer who advised companies to diversify their social efforts to as not to be dependent on any one platform. “You just never know when those platforms make changes that don’t serve your needs and you’re left dangling.”

There are other ways to adjust, said Geoffrey Colon, vice president of Social@Ogilvy, the digital marketing arm of Ogilvy & Mather. For those who are sticking to Facebook, Colon offers six ways to leverage the world’s largest social network.

Interview: What Facebook Did for Music in 2012… and What’s Next | Evolver.fm

Interview: What Facebook Did for Music in 2012… and What’s Next | Evolver.fm | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

In 2012, much of the world became accustomed to seeing what our friends were listening to on Facebook. It was the year when millions of us stopped listening to digital music alone quite so much, and began tuning in together, whether at the same time or asynchronously.

It’s easy to poke fun at the way this feature also lets you see music you don’t want to listen to. (“Great. Now I know that half my friends listen to music I can’t stand.”) But it has been an exciting trend since 2011; includes a lot more than just Facebook; and is far from over.

When you use your Facebook credentials to log into a music app, it’s not easier for you, but it also lets Facebook hook into what you’re listening to, and that is a large part of how the world’s largest social network, with over a billion users as of September — that’s about one seventh of the known humans in the universe — was able to pull this off.

To find out what Facebook thinks about what it has done for music — and what music has done for it — we spoke with Facebook manager of strategic partnerships Ime Archibong as 2012 came to a close.

SoundTracking adds Instagram support as it marks 2M monthly mobile users sharing 1.75M actions daily

SoundTracking adds Instagram support as it marks 2M monthly mobile users sharing 1.75M actions daily | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

SoundTracking, a mobile app for iOS and Android devices designed to be “the soundtrack to your life”, is releasing a new update today that now supports Instagram photos. Users can now share photos that they’ve taken in Instagram right into their SoundTracking timeline to complement the music they’re listening to.

The addition of this new service comes as SoundTracking announced some new user statistics. The company says it has 2 million monthly mobile users who are helping to create more than 1.75 million daily social actions within the app.

The rise to two million is largely attributed to SoundTracking’s redesign at the beginning of this year and the addition of its Smart Play feature, which brings in content from YouTube, Spotify, and Rdio. The social actions shared include the number of views, plays, likes, loves, comments, shares, follows, and more.

How I Created the Ultimate Tweet with Text, Pictures and an Audio Report

How I Created the Ultimate Tweet with Text, Pictures and an Audio Report | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Typing 140 characters and adding a link or photo is so 2010.

Too many news organizations merely place web or broadcast content on a Twitter screen and press tweet.

Why not create content for mobile devices tailored to the way people use their smartphones and tablets, as well as the devices' benefits and limitations?

Using the same content for broadcast, online, and in social media is not only repetitive and boring, it fails to take into consideration the mechanical and behavioral differences between a person watching TV, listening to the radio, reading a web story, or fidgeting with a phone or tablet.

Television news organizations have had decades to figure out how best to tell a story. Online journalists now know how to build multimedia pages that encourage the user to click on several elements to paint a complete picture.

So the question is, "How can I produce rich content that's best experienced by a person on a smartphone?

My answer? The Ultimate Tweet.

Using data + the power of a web platform to unlock huge Ads potential of Social Radio | Research Access

Using data + the power of a web platform to unlock huge Ads potential of Social Radio | Research Access | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Radio is massive part of media landscape, reaching over 242 million people in the U.S. each week. It remains the primary medium reaching us in the car, the two hours per day that the web is still very nascent. But overall radio has lacked new innovation. Radio has huge reach but remains primarily a one-way medium with no feedback loop and limited Data about its audience. Because Data has become so important to marketers, this is a challenge for the industry.

Jelli brings the power of an online web platform to a medium that has historically been primarily managed offline. We provide a feedback loop for radio, combining the reach of radio with the measurement and engagement of the web. We install our platform in traditional radio stations, and automate delivery of programming and advertising for those stations. We enable listeners to use their mobile phones to pick songs that play on the air in real time, learning a lot from their engagement. We enable advertisers to deliver traditional radio spots with the efficiency and interactivity of an online ad. By so doing we change the way radio programmers and marketers can access the 242 million people listening to radio - via social engagement, real time delivery of radio spots, transparency, accountability and measurability....

The Facebook Phone: In-App Chat, Easier Music Sharing | Evolver.fm

The Facebook Phone: In-App Chat, Easier Music Sharing | Evolver.fm | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Mark Zuckerberg announced in a livestreamed event today that the HTC First ($100, AT&T) will be the first in a series of Facebook Home phones starting April 12, from partners including AT&T, Alcatel, EE, HTC, HTC, Huawei, Orange, Samsung, OneTouch, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Sony, and ZTE. In other words, it will be a lot of phones, rather than just one. Not only that, but owners of the above Androids can install Facebook Home without buying a new phone....

From a music perspective, the big deal here looks to be the removal of friction between listening to something and sharing it with someone, because Facebook will be the main place where you “hang out” on that phone. You’ll be able to see what everyone else is listening to right there, as well as, we assume (as we must before we get a look at this thing) sharing songs in the chats that pop up within apps. At the very least, though, you’ll be able to notice that someone is listening to something, and go check out the song yourself, more seamlessly than on other phone platforms.

How To Bring "Local Listeners" Back To Your Radio Brand

How To Bring "Local Listeners" Back To Your Radio Brand | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
It’s funny when you think about social media and radio. Radio has always been a social media. Highly skilled radio personalities of the past were good at working crowds with real engagement, remembering names (validating listeners) and encouraging listeners to participate in local charities and join their radio station in doing good things in the local community and for causes like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

So all this talk about social media being new is….not so new to radio. However, because so many people are focused on digital development with consumers (listeners), social media in the digital world can seem intimidating. It shouldn’t be. Consider these ideas:

5 Aspects Of The Old Music Industry Being Disrupted And Replaced By Social Media - hypebot | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

In a widely noted Billboard interview, Amanda Palmer stated that "Twitter has replaced Google and [music] management." Nobody cared about the Google part but her claim of replacing music management certainly raised a few eyebrows. Of course, like many such claims, it wasn't totally true but it did provide an interesting example of the disruptive power of social media to replace expensive professional roles with cheap, good enough solutions.
