UNESCO Turns On the Radio: World Radio Day, Feb. 12, 2012 | IPS ipsnews.net | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

PARIS, Nov 11 , 2011 (IPS) - The demise of radio has been predicted for many years, but the medium is adapting, transforming and proving to be a cost-effective tool in development, experts say.

"Radio is cheap, portable and has enormous potential for local and national growth," says Mirta Lourenço, chief of the media development section of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The Paris-based agency this week approved a proposal from Spain to proclaim an annual World Radio Day set for Feb. 13 which will be observed in a variety of ways by UNESCO’s 195 member states.

"The aim is to promote community radio and also to celebrate the service radio provides," Lourenço told IPS. "It was felt that radio had not been adequately recognised for its many services to humankind."

SOCIAL TV :Youtoo Announces First Social TV Network With Revolutionary Technology That Allows Millions to be on TV

"...Youtoo developed this revolutionary technology, which allows viewers to record and submit videos that are then filtered for content and broadcast on TV. This automated process enables anyone, from anywhere, with Internet access or a mobile device to be on TV within minutes. Unlike standard social networking, where you interact with your friends and followers, on Youtoo TV you are in front of a national TV audience of 15 million. Youtoo will start by putting 500 people on TV each day – providing more Americans than ever before with a real shot at their "15 minutes of fame." The videos, aptly called "Fame Spots,"™ can be recorded easily from an Apple or Android smart phone, tablet or computer. In just a few clicks, anyone can upload their "Fame Spot" and be on TV for free. Youtoo will play a key role in democratizing who gets to be on TV."

Personalized Entertainment – Social, Transmedia Storytelling - Wired

Personalized Entertainment – Social, Transmedia Storytelling - Wired | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

When it is done well, traditional storytelling married to social media is very powerful: It takes those people who want to go beyond a behind-the-scenes DVD extra into the story. While we watch to see if integrated social media entertainment will really take off, there are still some issues to consider, such as, is it invasive for characters from shows to enter an individual’s social networks? and Can a TV blockbuster become too personal? That said, for now, I’m off to watch an episode of House, where I’m the patient!
