Verizon: 4 GB of data is minimum for LTE video streaming - FierceBroadbandWireless

Smartphone users should expect to buy a minimum data bucket of 4 GB if they use LTE video streaming, according to a Verizon Wireless blog post...

A 4 GB data bucket for a smartphone on a Share Everything plan as recommended by Malina would cost a user $110 each month, with $40 being the subscription fee for the smartphone and $70 getting added for the 4 GB data allowance.

According to Malina, with a 4 GB monthly data package, a wireless user can watch 300 minutes of video--the equivalent of 10 half-hour sitcoms-- surf 50 Web pages daily, upload 10 pictures, stream 15 minutes of music and send 50 emails every day. The total data used for all of those activities would be 3.61 GB, he said.

Case study : Break the law of silence (Shazam)

This is an 'relatively old' case study where Amnesty International achieved a 500% increase in response to an e-petition by using Shazam to drive awareness of the campaign.

For the week that the campaign was running, when Shazam could not identify a song it showed an error message that cited a case study of human rights abuse and asked the user to help ‘break the law of silence.’

Users were then routed to a mobile site where they could sign the petition and hear the new song – there was also a tool to share the campaign through Facebook and Twitter.

Mediamobile veut équiper chaque nouvelle voiture en radio numérique - Les Échos

Mediamobile veut équiper chaque nouvelle voiture en radio numérique - Les Échos | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Radio’s Mobile Challenge

Radio’s Mobile Challenge | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

So the central problem for broadcasters is not planting their brands on mobile platforms so folks can listen to their stations in more places. The central problem is participating in a new and ever-more-ubiquitous medium where consumers and advertisers are solving their problems in new ways and via new platforms.

This is not just about a sponsorship on your stream in a mobile space or an in-stream ad. It’s about keeping pace with the state of change in the mobile space and embracing tools not just to extend your brands but to extend the ability for your audiences and your clients to connect to their mutual benefit. That will go well beyond your app to a variety of mobile platforms.

NPR creates news applications team as part of strategy for ‘multimedia audio’ | Poynter

So how will the news apps team complement NPR’s audio journalism? Stencel said radio’s power is its ability “to bring complicated stories to life, make them real, put a human voice on things that otherwise may be dry and complicated.” But on the air, it’s hard to make numbers comprehensible and to help people visualize complex types of information.
“Adding this allows us to take reporting that often has been underneath that type of storytelling and surface it in a way that also is just as engaging and powerful,” he said.

Meeker on Mobile Monetization | Audio4Cast

Meeker on Mobile Monetization | Audio4Cast | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

In her latest presentation Meeker, one of the smartest people on the planet when it comes to mobile trends, said that the mobile opportunity continues to be huge. IPhone’s impressive game-changing adoption rate has been dwarfed by that of IPad and Androids, and despite the tremendous pace, smartphone adoption has a huge remaining upside.

Mobile traffic now accounts for 10% of the Internet. Up from 1% in late 2009. And despite all the negative things you may have heard about mobile monetization, Mobile Commerce accounts for 8% of eCommerce, with spending practically keeping pace with time spent with the medium.

Unfortunately, as you have probably also heard, average revenue per user for mobile is not keeping pace with desktop stats. Meeker uses Pandora, along with Zynga and Tencent as examples and actually Pandora is doing a pretty good job of monetizing mobile ad revenue, compared with some of the others.

Here Comes the New Dashboard - Radio Intelligence | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
So what’s in store for the auto dashboard of tomorrow?

It may not be whatever’s on the drawing board in Detroit (or in the picture above).

It may really be whatever’s in your pocket.

So says venture capitalist John Backus:

In-car electronics, standalone GPS, satellite radio, seatback DVD players and HD radio will quickly disappear, replaced only by the smartphone powering a dumb screen on the dashboard.

In other words, argues Backus, YOU are the new dashboard.

it is the first B2C media from AFP in partnership with Radio France. An iPad application, both personalized and innovative, which combines the best of France Info, France Inter, France Culture and AFP on the presidential and legislative elections.

The application, France 2012, relies on Trendsboard technology, a semantic algorithm that analyzes and prioritizes the real-time content of Radio France and AFP based on the conversations shared over the Internet.

With this technology, the user can control his information through three filters (political and campaign issues, candidates, and soon geolocation), just as in a video game. It presents the best content of these two major media groups - text, photos, audio and video - in a format each user can personalize in his or her own way.

Radio Seeks to Exploit Mobile Better | Radio World

Radio Seeks to Exploit Mobile Better | Radio World | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

The Radio Advertising Bureau has put together a Tuesday morning panel at the 2012 NAB Show titled “Is Mobile Marketing the Future of Advertising in Radio?”...

John Potter, vice president of training at the Radio Advertising Bureau, cited overall mobile ad revenues for 2011 at more than $1 billion. “And it’s projected for huge increases over the next five years. Mobile is off to the races.”...

In addition to providing the user the ability to tune in any station’s audio streams, a smartphone brings user interactivity and pictures — stills, videos or graphics — to the screen. This visual element can present added value to an advertiser...

“At the end of the day, the ability of a radio station to get their icon on the desktop of a person’s smartphone is the best branding you can have. It’s akin to having a pushbutton on a car radio.”

As to some features that a station can add through an app, Jacobs listed links to podcasts, videos, news, schedules, social media, the last-five-songs, places for listeners to post pictures from station events and more...

Listening to Internet radio with mobile devices is a parade that’s well underway. The trick for radio is to get out in front of it.
