Case study : Break the law of silence (Shazam)

This is an 'relatively old' case study where Amnesty International achieved a 500% increase in response to an e-petition by using Shazam to drive awareness of the campaign.

For the week that the campaign was running, when Shazam could not identify a song it showed an error message that cited a case study of human rights abuse and asked the user to help ‘break the law of silence.’

Users were then routed to a mobile site where they could sign the petition and hear the new song – there was also a tool to share the campaign through Facebook and Twitter.

Why Sound Could Win in the Battle Against Video on the Web

Why Sound Could Win in the Battle Against Video on the Web | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Just like you learned to crawl before you walked, you learned to listen to your mother’s heartbeat from within her womb before you saw anything outside of it.On stage at Mashable Connect in Orlando, Soundcloud CEO Alexander Ljung described the early developments of our senses, saying we’re born with imperfect eyesight but enter the world with perfect hearing.

He used the infant example to illustrate how our lives began audibly and then transitioned into a visual ecosystem, particularly now that the Internet hosts countless videos screaming for attention.

Ljung, however, envisions us shifting back to those early experiences — “back to the heartbeat” — when sound first reigned supreme among our senses.

The Echo Nest CEO On What Big Data Means To The Music Industry | TechCrunchTV | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
The Echo Nest is possibly the hottest music data company around right now. They've signed deals with Nokia, EMI, Clear Channel, Spotify, and most recently, Vevo.

Lucchese believes that the songs you listen to say something about your identity, and that music services have a huge problem ahead of them in the form of millions of listeners and millions of digital music titles. Being the middle man between such huge pools of information is nearly impossible without a deep understanding of the music itself.

But Lucchese believes that the real shift will come by way of understanding the listener, too.

The business model of Spotify

The business model of Spotify | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

No industry is changing as rapid as the music industry. In the past, the record companies fully determined which artists were launched national or international. The production costs, the promotional costs and the distribution costs for an album were significant. The music industry lived for the blockbusters with huge sales from a handful of talents. The core business of a record company was to discover and to launch new talent. In the last ten years, this has all changed. The record companies could not keep up with the rapid developments in the market and lost considerable ground to newcomers.

Beats Audio is buying MOG music streaming service | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Looks like the rumors were all too true -- according to All Things D, Beats Audio is picking up MOG. For those unaware, MOG is yet another music streaming / subscription service, and while the feature set bests even the vaunted Spotify in many ways by including a Pandora-like playlist generator, it's had a tough time procuring the same hype machine. Regardless, there's no more hiding under the radar now, and you can bet that anything with a Beats label on it will soon be using MOG as a musical pillar (hello, HTC Sense?).
