Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)

Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) | Quiz Generators | Scoop.it

The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) provides the world’s most extensive and rigorous set of international surveys assessing the knowledge and skills of secondary school students. This volume combines an analysis of PISA with a description of the policies and practices of those education systems that are close to the top or advancing rapidly, in order to offer insights for policy from their reform trajectories.

5 Assessment Strategies Every Teacher Should Know

5 Assessment Strategies Every Teacher Should Know | Quiz Generators | Scoop.it

"Most teachers and current textbooks offer varied approaches to the material to be learned so the teaching can be brain-compatible with the varied student learning styles. It is only logical that respect for these individual learning styles be incorporated into assessment forms."

Like other comments on this scoop, I really like this article, especially items #1 and #2.  I really like those options because they are unconventional options that I still think would provide an appropriate level of challenge for the students as well as provide an alternative form of just a simple pencil and paper exam.  I think option #1 is more feasible for elementary school because it would allow students to work on skills that are more age appropriate like consolidation of information and looking for quality source material.

Ruby Day's curator insight, February 14, 2014 3:45 PM

Sounds like some great ideas to stimulate critical thinking

All 5 assessment methods involves  students leading the learning. Asking the students questions based on their reading of the topic helps their analytical  skills and allows them to be in charge of their learning.

26 Teacher Tools To Create Online Assessments

26 Teacher Tools To Create Online Assessments | Quiz Generators | Scoop.it

You teach, which means you need to know what students do and don’t understand.

Which means you need to assess.

You teach in the 21st century, which means you use the internet and digital tools to plan, share, and curate learning.

Which means online assessments could be a boon to your teaching, whether for blended learning, a flipped classroom, eLearning, to better communicate learning progress to parents, or for students to track their own mastery.

I will definitely have some feedback after reviewing these tools to create online assessments. Creating assessments is an important first step because you don't give the prescription on how to fix a business before you've figured out what the problem are-that's why you begin with the assessments- they become your base starting point of reference. This article has tools to help you create those online assessments.Let me know which are your favorite tools.

Don't Memorize, Internalize - Studying For Final Exams

Don't Memorize, Internalize - Studying For Final Exams | Quiz Generators | Scoop.it

"Our students are currently taking their final exams. During the past few weeks, we've wondered often about the distinctions between "studying," "reviewing," and "reminding" -- since theoretically, the students have already learned all of this information earlier in the year."

Via Beth Dichter

Beth Dichter's curator insight, June 6, 2013 8:29 PM

This post explores an interesting issue, should final exams be a "review" or should we think of them as a way to "provide a thematic culmination of the year's "big picture" ideas...(giving) kids a few "ah ha!" moments to realize how much they've learned over the course of their semesters. Exam review should be an exercise in how to internalize information and produce new connections."

There is also a short video embedded in this post, "How to Generate Good Ideas" that provides "five ways to foster understanding."

Take some time to think about how you view final exams...and what might happen if you shift that perspective a bit.

Amanda's curator insight, July 1, 2013 4:15 PM

This article talks about final exams and the methods we use to srudy for them. Rather then just memorizing what you need to know just to forget it down the road if you use more creative ways to study it will stick with you longer.
