The 12 cognitive biases that prevent you from being rational

The 12 cognitive biases that prevent you from being rational | Quining Qualia | Scoop.it

People prefer electric shocks to time alone with their thoughts - The Boston Globe

People prefer electric shocks to time alone with their thoughts - The Boston Globe | Quining Qualia | Scoop.it
In the rush of everyday life, many people say they crave a moment of solitude, but a startling new study finds that people don’t really enjoy spending even 10 minutes alone with their thoughts. In fact, we find our own musings so unsatisfying that, in research done at the University of Virginia, many people chose to administer painful electric shocks to themselves rather than sit in quiet contemplation, researchers from that university and Harvard reported Thursday.

The uncomfortable truth about mind control: Is free will simply a myth? | Quining Qualia | Scoop.it
We have vain brains; we see ourselves as better than we really are. We like to think that we exercise free will, that put into a situation where we were challenged to do something we thought unacceptable then we'd refuse. But, if you believe that, then you are probably deluded.
