Stavanger Travel Guide

Stavanger Travel Guide | Quick Travel Trip | Scoop.it

Stavanger has a lot going for it. Its centre is arrayed around a pretty harbour with the quiet streets of the old town climbing up from the water's edge. It's also home to almost two-dozen museums, and is said by some to be the largest wooden city in Europe. But Stavanger's appeal is as much about atmosphere as anything else. Most nights, especially in summer, the city's waterfront comes alive and can get quite rowdy in the best tradition of oil and port cities. By Sunday morning, however, it's quiet and charming once again, for this is a place that has never lost its small-town feel.

Geneva Travel Guide

Geneva Travel Guide | Quick Travel Trip | Scoop.it

Super sleek, slick and cosmopolitan, Geneva is a rare breed of city. It's one of Europe’s priciest. Its people chatter in every language under the sun and it's constantly thought of as the Swiss  capital - which it isn't. This gem of a city superbly strung around the sparkling shores of Europe’s largest Alpine lake is, in fact, only Switzerland’s third-largest city.

Quick Travel Trip's insight:

Yet the whole world is here: the UN, International Red Cross, International Labour Organization, World Health Organization. You name it, they're in Geneva; 200-odd top-dog governmental and nongovernmental international organisations meting out world affairs with astonishing precision and authority. They fill the city's bounty of plush four- and five-star hotels with big-name guests. They feast on an incredulous choice of international cuisine, cooked up by restaurants to meet 'local' demand. And they help prop up the overload of banks, luxury jewellers and chocolate shops for which the city is known. Strolling through manicured city parks, sailing on the lake and skiing in the Alps next door are hot weekend pursuits.

Kristiansand Travel Guide

Kristiansand Travel Guide | Quick Travel Trip | Scoop.it

Kristiansand, Norway's fifth-largest city, calls itself 'Norway's No 1 Holiday Resort'. That can be a bit misleading: sun-starved Norwegians do flock here in the summer, but for everyone else it serves more as a gateway to the seaside villages of Norway's southern coast and the inland region of Setesdalen. The claim also reflects a newfound confidence that has seen the city clean up its environmental act (it was until a decade ago infamous for its pollution). What Kristiansand can offer though is a lively cultural and shopping scene, great restaurants and a healthy nightlife. In addition, anyone travelling with children will more than likely find themselves cajoled into visiting the town's outstanding children's park and zoo.

Trondheim Travel Guide

Trondheim Travel Guide | Quick Travel Trip | Scoop.it

Trondheim is the oldest of Norway's major cities, and its old heritage can still be traced in and around the city centre. The marvellous Nidaros Cathedral, the second largest church of Northern Europe, towers over the city centre, which is roughly the area inside the meandering Nidelva.

Quick Travel Trip's insight:

The city boasts a rich, cultural heritage, but is still a major centre. Even if the size is modest, there's a lot going on in Trondheim. Music, arts, culture, alternative politics, nightlife, student life... all combines into making Trondheim one of the most exciting city centres of Northern Europe.

Trondheim is an old city in central Norway. The city is dominated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology; its more than 30,000 students are a lot in a city with merely 180,000 inhabitants in total, and this contributes greatly to the city's economy.
