CASE AGAINST HOMOPHOBIC CABINET MINISTER OPENS IN KAMPALA AMIDST GAY RECRUITMENT CLAIMS

Africa's LGBTI News Leader...

high court judge in Uganda, Justice Eldad Mwangushya has said security agencies should “infiltrate” gay rights groups to ascertain if children are “recruited into homosexuality.”
The judge made the comments on Monday in Kampala at the beginning of the hearing of a case brought by gay activists against the government and Ethics and Integrity Minister for forcing the closure of a gay rights workshop in February this year.
The judge suggested that rather than forcing gays not to hold meetings, spies could enter in such meetings and hear what the homosexuals are discussing.
He told a fully parked court room that he was allowing Fr. Simon Lokodo and the Attorney General to file their defence by July 2, 2012 and the hearing to resume on July 6, 2012 in Kampala.

USA Ambassador hobbled for hosting LGBTI Party?

So an ambassador is best advised to camouflage his support for gay rights in a country like Kenya or Uganda by, say, hosting an International Aids Day event which trawls in all sorts of players. But to single out the LGBTI community and show overt support? That’s tricky even if his own president has been unequivocal on the rights of gay and lesbian men and women.

The politics of Sexual Pleasure

“Over the last decade, there have been various attempts by states to regulate women’s attire, while there have also been regular outbreaks of public violence against women who wear clothing deemed to be ‘too skimpy’. So what lies behind this urge to determine what women should wear – and also how they should act and who they should desire? This session seeks to understand the politics around women’s rights to sexual pleasure, the policy implications of this desire to control women’s bodies and, more importantly their sexualities, as well as how masculinities are often framed in ways that encourage violence and unhealthy sexual relationships.”

Lesbians and Domestic Violence: Intimate Betrayal

Domestic violence in the GLBTQI community happens and the rates are alarming! The issue of abuse in LGBTQI relationships has not yet been studied in Africa. Studies in the U.S., however, suggest rates of abuse are equivalent in same-sex as in heterosexual relationships. If equivalent rates occur in Africa as well, where more than 40% of women report beatings at the hands of intimate partners, then you too, dear reader, have a good chance of being in an abusive relationship.

AMSHeR...Thapelo Makutle was found in the early hours of 9 June 2012; his throat had been slit across. Unconfirmed reports indicate that his genitals had been severed and stuffed into his mouth. Thapelo’s murder is the latest in a number of violent attacks against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex [LGBTI] persons in the Northern Cape Province. Earlier this year, a young lesbian was murdered in Magojaneng village; her body was also mutilated, her genitalia cut out and a bottle inserted into her body. Although South Africa’s constitution provides the right to freedom from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, incidents of violence and attacks against LGBTI persons in the country continue to rise
