Kenji Yanobe est un des artistes que l'on rattache habituellement au Néo Pop à cause de ses nombreuses citations empruntées au monde des mangas. Il transcende les frontières nationales et choisit pour décor à ses performances des sites comme ceux proches de la centrale nucléaire de Tchernobyl, condamnée et contaminée. Son œuvre, composée de sculptures, assemblages, constructions ou photographies, dévoile toute la violence et l'autodestruction du monde actuel : sans jamais se poser en moralisateur, il fait un bilan du danger que représente le nucléaire, et d'une façon étonnamment ludique, parfois désabusée et cynique, tente de proposer des solutions quant à la survie des hommes sur une planète qu'ils ont détruite.

 

Ses créations, toujours construites pour une seule personne, permettraient en cas de destruction de la planète de sauvegarder au moins un exemplaire de l'espèce humaine, et s'il s'agit de lui, d'au moins un échantillon de l'identité japonaise. ...
