NAGOYA—The European Patent Office on June 17 awarded Masahiro Hara of Denso Corp. and his team the Popular Prize of the European Inventor Award 2014 for developing the QR code, which shows Internet addresses when read by smartphones and other devices. This is the first time for a Japanese team to win the prestigious award.
