You cannot miss them: they’re used on billboards, magazines, shops etc. 22% of Fortune 500 companies are actually using QR codes in the advertising and marketing campaigns. According to JumpScan, 52% of American people have heard or seen them, but only 28% have actually scanned one. When you know that 28% of the U.S. population own a smartphone, that leaves us with more than 1 out of 13 American people that have actually scanned a QR code in their life.

Of the 14 million mobile phone users who scanned QR codes in June 2011, a full 60 percent were male. According to data in a comScore report released today, most QR code-scanning consumers are between the ages of 18 and 34, and around a third are in households making $100,000 or more per year.
