Teenage pregnancy - Women's Health Queensland Wide

Teenage pregnancy - Women's Health Queensland Wide | Qiana's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it
For a teenage girl, the consequences
of a pregnancy differ in the short and long term, depending on whether she chooses abortion, parenting or adoption
Qiana Nassau's insight:

Although this is not an article, is shows and tells us that surprisingly the teenage pregnancy rate has decreased considerably, over the last four decades. It says that this was due to access to abortion and change educational wise and career opportunities for women. Although there is still amounts of women who do fall pregnant. I think this is very positive writing which also helps to encourage and preach to people about how society is scoping and to encourage girls and women to make the right decisions.

Drug users getting younger: report

Drug users getting younger: report | Qiana's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it
An annual snapshot of drug admissions at Odyssey House, Australia’s largest rehabilitation service, has found that while a decade ago people first got intoxicated at 16 or 17, they are now starting out in their early teens.Kenyan-born Dr Nino Sa Cordeiro has worked as a drugs and alcohol doctor at Odyssey House and in private practice in the Campbelltown area for 35 years. Dr Sa Cordeiro says with teenagers starting drugs at such a young age, there is a quick decline which sees them eventually leaving school, making their treatment even tougher.
Qiana Nassau's insight:

This Article tells of how a veteran shares with everyone that the age in which drugs are first being used has dropped dramatically as low as 12 years old. Blaming it on "culture of getting high", this has dramatic and devastating effects on our society and and teens. Drugs destroy and harm lives and now that the age has dropped more people will be and are being affected by this. I believe that the aim of this article is to raise awareness to parents and teenagers, mostly the whole of Australia that this needs to be changed.

Teenage drink and drug abuse rife | Qiana's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it
THE scourge of alcohol abuse across Australia is far worse than previously thought, with one in five 16- and 17-year-olds now binge-drinking in any given week and nearly 500,000 children living at risk of exposure to an adult drinking at harmful levels.
Qiana Nassau's insight:

This article does not only outline the use of alcohol by Australian teenagers but also the increase in drug use. It tells of how disturbing the numbers of teenagers who have been using cannabis which is illegal here in Australia and how it is considered to be 'normal activity' and often seen as 'a right of passage to adulthood'. It also talks of how 1 in eight children lived with a problem drinker or drug user. This article tells statistics and also enables us to understand how terrible this has increased and is still occurring in our "newly developed world".

SUICIDE is now the most common cause of unexpected death among WA teenagers.
Qiana Nassau's insight:

Suicide is now the most common cause of unexpected death among WA teenagers. I believe this article was published to show and tell Australian children and parents that it is a terrible thing that is occurring here. It is raising awareness and also gives help to those who are undergoing certain circumstances. It tells that because teenagers are increasingly exposed to illegal drugs which are extremely powerful and because they have not properly matured it has a great impact on their brains. So a great deal of suicides are powered by drug use.

Teen's death sparks call to ban synthetic drugs

Teen's death sparks call to ban synthetic drugs | Qiana's Yr 9 Journal | Scoop.it
The Federal Government says it would back moves to ban synthetic drugs after a boy jumps to his death.
Qiana Nassau's insight:

This article is about Henry Kwan who jumped from his third floor balcony, due to the use of synthetic drugs. He was only 17 years old and his parents are urging the Australian National Government to take more action in banning these drugs to prevent others families and friends from going through tragic losses. This article raises awareness and encourages, and warns people and especially teenagers to not use drugs. Although this is such a tragic event, it does help raise awareness for other teenagers who are confused and who are actually considering using drugs in their life time. Hopefully this has made an impact and scoped the decisions of teenagers here in Australia.

This is so true. This is happening all over the world now and it is so wrong! The parents are doing wrong job by letting their children go out at night with their friends and be drinking or even if they don't that they are going out they should be talking to the parents about what the kids will be doing that day!
