Glenn Kriczky Sheds Light on America's Fight Against Animal Abuse

Glenn Kriczky, an advocate for animal rights, exposes the horrible problem of animal abuse right here in the US.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Glenn Kriczky says animal cruelty and abuse is a rampant problem in the world and here in the US. Many times animal welfare is ignored, because of either ignorance or that people are just too being far caught up in there own lives to act. The problem is everywhere, even in our communities; dozens of animals suffer needlessly each day. He says that much of this ignorance is due to a lack of funding and policy for the public education of animal rights.

People's view of abuse varies, and prior to modern biology revealing similarities between humans and animals, some thinkers considered animals to be void of feeling. For instance, René Descartes thought that animals were just complex machines that had no soul, mind, or reason. Now, because of close research we know that many human attributes such as language, tool use, and self-consciousness can be found in some animals. When Charles Darwin presented the theory of evolution, it revolutionized the way that humans viewed their relationship with animals. Darwin believed that not only were human beings and animals connected, but that they also shared social, mental and moral codes as well.

Many people now hold the position that because animals have the ability to feel pain as humans do, their suffering and well being should be given equal consideration. Unfortunately there are still many that take the utilitarianism view says Glenn Kriczky. This group feels that animals are simply here for our use and pleasure, and their needs should be well below our own. Glenn is working to change this attitude within our culture both here in America and abroad. He works with many non-profits on fund-raising and providing education to the public. He feels that people really do have the power to make changes. He says that all animals should be respected and treated right, as they are an integral part of our existence. He and his family always try to adopt their pets from rescue groups as a way of helping take care of animals that would probably face certain death.

Markus Heitkoetter Calls The Simple Strategy Perfect For Beginners

Markus Heitkoetter is the author of the best-selling The Simple Strategy

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Markus Heitkoetter is the author of two best selling books on Amazon, The Complete Guide to Day Trading and The Simple Strategy. The latter title has spent more than a year in the #1 position in the Futures category.

Markus Heitkoetter says that The Simple Strategy provides his readers with a powerful tool for  trading the markets. With its clear and concise presentation of trading rules, The Simple Strategy is different from other trading guides. It shows readers how to take advantage of the small, intraday market trends  and eliminates the guess work. He says that the methods he describes in The Simple Strategy require no special trading software, so that even inexperienced traders can use them.

"As you will see, the entry rules are based on indicators – and it's black and white," Markus Heitkoetter explains. "Either the MACD is above the zero line or it isn't. And either the RSI is above 70 or it isn't. The entries are easy to identify and to execute. That's why this strategy is called ‘The Simple Strategy.'"

The book even describes when traders should exit, even before they enter into a trade. "So you know exactly how much you risk on any given trade, which is essential for precision position sizing and money management," he says. He says that traders can even put a trade on what he calls "auto-pilot" once they are filled on an entry order. "This reduces trade management to a minimum."

Markus Heitkoetter says that no expensive, proprietary software is needed to use "The Simple Strategy." Users only need basic software that plots Range Bars, Bollinger Bands, MACD and RSI. And the whole system is easy to learn. The book provides just the information that traders need and the results that they want. "‘The Simple Strategy has its name for a reason," he says. "You can learn it in less than sixty minutes and trade it right away. This makes it the perfect trading strategy for beginners!"

Markus Heitkoetter is also the founder and President of Rockwell Trading Services in Austin, Texas. The company marked its ten year anniversary in January of 2015.

Franklin Cockerill Is a Seasoned Marathon Runner

Frank Cockerill has tips for marathon training

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Franklin Cockerill is Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Microbiology. He has a long association with the Mayo Clinic.

He has also run in many marathons, and has logged nearly three hundred miles in the Med City marathon alone. He says that completing a race of more than twenty-six miles is a major undertaking that no one should commit to lightly. But once you have committed, there should be no second guessing and no looking back.

One way of making sure you don’t end up backing out of the marathon is to tell your friends and family about your plans. This is a way of making it seem more real, and of making yourself accountable. As Franklin Cockerill knows, people will begin asking how your training is coming along. That alone tends to be an aid to motivation.

It’s also a good idea to understand your goals in running in a marathon. Some people simply have a desire to test themselves, while others may be running a local marathon as training for a larger event, such as the Boston Marathon. Still others might want to complete a major physical challenge before they turn forty. Franklin Cockerill says that figuring that out will help guide a training plan.

The single biggest thing to consider is whether you have any experience running distances. A runner who can already complete three or four miles has a good start in training, but will still need about three months before being ready for a half marathon, and a good five months for a full marathon. As Franklin Cockerill knows, experts say you don’t need to run every single day during training. In fact, taking a day off here and there gives you body a chance to recover, and you’ll be that much stronger when you get back out on the road again.

One of the reasons it’s important to spread your training out over many months is because of the need to build up endurance. You simply cannot add miles too quickly without running the risk of injuring yourself. One established rule of thumb is to not increase your mileage by more than ten percent a week during training.

It’s a good idea to mimic race day by training in the same conditions you’ll face on race day. Above all, though, Frank Cockerill says to try to have fun with the whole experience.

Charles Russell Elburn Provides Tips for Helping the Less

Charles Russell Elburn has donated much of his time to causes that work to support the local needy population. He offers several ways people can become more involved in the charitable process.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Charles Russell Elburn never shies away from the opportunity to lend an attentive ear or helping hand to someone in need. A supporter of local organizations that provide much-needed assistance to in-need families, Elburn continually demonstrates the will, desire and ability to be of service to the region’s less fortunate population, and to always be a source of compassion, and action, to those struggling to make ends meet.

Charles Russell Elburn enjoys making a difference, and is an opportunist when it comes to identifying ways to support needy families. Below, Elburn seeks to show others several basic ways they too can make a difference in people’s lives, and work towards stemming, even ending, the scourge of disadvantage and poverty throughout the nation.

Fundraising

One way an individual can make a difference is to become a part of the fundraising community, or by joining an organization that relies on fundraising to help in-need people. Fundraisers are often a powerful and impactful way to play a larger role in the charitable community, and to raise both money and awareness for needy families throughout one’s local area.

Food Donations

One of the biggest problems that often plagues needy families, says Charles Russell Elburn, is hunger, though there are numerous hunger drives and events that are constantly accepting food donations throughout the country. Do your research to find the best places to donate cans and jars of nonperishable food items. Chances are there are locations in your local neighborhood.

Conduct a Collection Drive

Those seeking to help needy families also have the opportunity to organize; to create and build support for collection drives that take in and distribute clothing, food, blankets, books and other necessities to in-need populations. Aspiring volunteers/givers often have opportunities to conduct these drives in their offices, their children’s schools, local neighborhood businesses and more.

Donate Old Belongings

Chances are you have items stuffed in the back of the closet, or collecting dust in the garage, that would be of great benefit to needy families. Take time one afternoon, says Charles Russell Elburn, to locate and pile up the belongings that you no longer need, or have no sentimental meaning, and seek out a charitable organization currently in need of donations.

William T Gholson on Plans Epic Road Trip

William T Gholson spends his spare time preparing his 1966 MGB roadster for an epic road trip with his wife.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

William T Gholson, an auto parts distributor living in San Antonio, Texas, loves cars. He recently began working on a 1966 MGB roadster in preparation for a long road trip across the United States with his wife. He still has a large amount of work to do. The roadster isn’t ready for a long, grueling road trip, even after ten years.

Gholson says he doesn’t mind taking a long time. He’d like to take the trip after his eldest child, Barry, is out of high school. He also has a daughter in the fifth grade, but she can stay with friends, he says. He enjoys working on his cars, a passion that began in high school, when he bought a 1965 Ford Falcon from his neighbors and restored it to its former glory. He ended up driving the car for twelve years, and even proposed to his wife Jean, in that car.

William T Gholson still doesn’t know exactly where they’ll go. “Whatever we end up doing, we’ll be traveling light,” says Gholson. “There isn’t a lot of extra room in an MBG.” He says that they will have to fasten only a couple small suitcases on the back rack of the car, with little room for much else, which is fine with him.

Over a decade of work has mostly restored the engine to working order, although, ever the perfectionist, Gholson says it could be better. The MGB also needs a new paint job and new upholstery. He has replaced or overhauled many of its engine parts already, and says, modestly, “It runs okay.”
Of his preliminary plans, William T Gholson says that they’ll head towards New Orleans, and after that, “who knows?” One thing is for sure: when the MGB is deemed ready by master auto part expert William T Gholson, it will be ready for anything.

Blair Schlossberg, co-founder and co-manager of Crown Holdings Group, says his company surpassed $2 billion in real estate transactions since the company’s inception in 2009.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Blair Schlossberg has worked in law and real estate for over twenty years. In 2009, he and his business partner Moshe Manoah founded Crown Holdings Group, amid one of the worst economic downturns in recent memory.

Today, Crown Holdings Group, based in Atlanta, manages a plethora of properties in three main real estate asset categories: residential homes, apartment rental properties, and retail and shopping center. To date, the company Blair Schlossberg helped create has completed over $2 billion in real estate transactions since its inception, most of those involving devalued properties that Crown Holdings Group rebuilt and sold for a profit for its investors.

Blair Schlossberg has over twenty years under his belt as a lawyer and real estate expert. After he received his doctor of law degree in 1991, he joined the Atlanta law firm Alston and Bird and worked in corporate and real estate law. He handled everything from construction closings to creditor’s rights. It was this experience, as well as his stint with manufacturing giant BWAY, which prepared him for the success Crown Holdings Group enjoys today.

Blair Schlossberg employs the Three R strategy at Crown Holdings Group: recapitalizing, rehabilitating, and repositioning real estate assets. He organized the company’s real estate assets into three basic categories, each managed by its own dedicated affiliate company: retail and shopping property, rental properties, and residential properties. Schlossberg also manages Duke Homes, Inc., the Crown Holdings Group affiliate that manages residential properties. This successful strategy allows Crown Holdings Group to create profitable returns for their investors and help revitalize the Atlanta area by adding value to its real estate properties.

Christina Ferrante, attorney at law - Succeeding as an Attorney and an Archer

Christina Ferrante, attorney at law, has built an impressive resume as a lawyer practicing family and probate law. She draws a comparison between succeeding as a lawyer and one of her favorite personal hobbies, archery.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Christina Ferrante, attorney at law, has established a prestigious reputation within the legal realm. She operates with the utmost respect for both the law and the trust that her clients put in her. Her winning formula within the courtroom is full knowledge of the law, confidence in her abilities, and sensitivity for the situation. She has sustained a long tenure of success due to her ability to find time for peace and relaxation. She has many hobbies, including cycling, watching movies, musical theater and opera, hiking, collecting antiques and art and archery. Her skill as an archer is reflective of her skill as an attorney because of the qualities one must possess in order to succeed in both endeavors.

Archery requires a great deal of focus in order to succeed. One must be extremely mindful of their form while pulling back the bow and aiming the arrow. An archer must focus at a level that brings awareness to every bodily movement. Representing a client in court, too, takes a great deal of focus. One must be mindful of all the implication of the law as well as their client’s relation to the law. An attorney must focus at a level that brings awareness to how his or her presence and delivery are affecting the perception within the courtroom.

Archery requires patience in order to succeed. One must not rush his or herlearning of proper technique and preparation that works for them. This can only be learned through experience and previous attempts. Being a successful lawyer also requires patience. An attorney's process of learning effective technique and preparation requires observing courtroom proceedings and previous attempts at successful representation. Christina Ferrante, attorney at law, succeeds as both a lawyer and archer because of her focus and patience.

Possessing both of these qualities requires courage, as one must have faith that his or her focus is worthwhile and humility to endure an experience in the courtroom. She enjoys both of these endeavors because of the challenges they present. Even though she has many years of experience under her belt, she still finds her duties as an attorney to be demanding, stimulating and fun on an everyday basis.

Scott Krautman Loops Around Florida on Spring Training Junket

Scott Krautman is a baseball fan who takes in as much spring training as he can

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Scott Krautman looks forward to each spring, and the start of a new baseball season. He likes it when the regular season gets underway, and as a fan of the Miami Marlins he takes in as many games as he can during the course of the season. But he likes spring training even better.

For the last couple of years, Scott Krautman has made a circuit around Florida each spring, checking in on the Grapefruit League teams that do their spring training in the Sunshine State. Fourteen major league teams make up the Grapefruit League, he says. "Teams have been coming to Florida for Spring Training since 1888m," he says. "That's more than 125 years. Needless to say, it has become a big part of the Florida economy, something that we really depend on."

Municipal and county governments in Florida spend millions of dollars to attract and keep Major League teams coming back each spring. The Lee County government sold up to eighty one million dollars in bonds, Scott Krautman says, to fund the new spring baseball stadium for the Boston Red Sox, a scaled down version of Fenway Park where the team plays eighteen exhibition games each spring.

"And it's worth every penny," Scott Krautman says. The Governor of Florida leads the charge in welcoming Major League teams to the state, touting its climate and natural surroundings. The payoff in tourism is considerable.

Scott Krautman says that when he was a child growing up in Ocala, his father took him to a Detroit Tigers exhibition game. The team's spring training center in Lakeland was one of the closest to his home, and they spent three days there watching team workouts and games. "It's one of my happiest childhood memories," he says. Today he still visits the Tigers in Lakeland, one stop on a circuit around Florida that begins in Jupiter near his home, where the St Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins train. From there he heads north, making stops in Port St. Lucie, Viera, Kissimmee and Lake Buena Vista, before heading west to Lakeland and the Tigers.

From Lakeland, Scott Krautman's junket goes on to the Blue Jays' Spring Training in Dunedin, the Phillies in Clearwater, the Yankees in Tampa, ending finally all the way down in Fort Myers on the Gulf coast, where the Red Sox and Twins play make their spring training camps. From there he drives back across the state to home, just in time for Opening Day.

Mace Watts Shares Successful Sales Strategies

Successful real estate developer Mace Watts has a proven strategy to sell homesites in a low-pressure environment.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

North Myrtle Beach resident Mace Watts has been working in sales and marketing of real estate development properties since 2000. He has been successful in each of his projects, and his development of the “Fly and Buy” sales strategy has resulted in the sale of over 3,000 homesites.

In addition to being the President of Sales at Level 10 Sales and Marketing, Watts is also the managing partner of Sunset Beach Holdings, LLC. The development firm is currently in the development stages of a resort lifestyle community in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Planning to build 68 dockable waterfront homesites, Sunset Beach Holdings will provide the area, in addition to the greater North Carolina coastline, with a housing opportunity unlike any other.

Mace Watts has found success in the development and marketing of these types of communities through his “Fly and Buy” sales events. This five-part selling strategy has helped him with his current project at Sunset Beach, and recently in his sales and marketing role of a resort level property at Compass Point, located just 10 miles outside of historic downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

The first component of his sales strategy is centered on strategic planning and research. When in early stages of a project’s development, Watts and his team prefer to analyze the area in which the project will be completed, and doing research into the types of buyers that would potentially express interest. Once this first step has been completed, the next phase involves a direct mail campaign that is determined through analysis of potential buyers’ travel habits, interests, tax filings, and financial portfolios. This analysis allows Watts’ team to purchase a direct mail list to communicate with these potential buyers. Direct mail campaigns have proven to be the catalyst for locating qualified potential buyers for properties that Watts’ has managed.

Once the initial outreach has been completed between Watts’ company and the potential buyers, local meetings are scheduled in the buyers’ local communities so as to provide a low-pressure environment to inform buyers of the opportunity. Buyers that then express interest in the development are invited to attend an event weekend at the development site, to preview the potential opportunity for ownership. Events of these types have proven to be beneficial for Watts’ developer clients and new property owners.

Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado Provides Advice on Finding the Right Volunteering Opportunity

Now with the Peace Corps, Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado understands how important and rewarding it can be to nail down the most appropriate opportunity to volunteer your time.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

There are many ways to get involved, though there are also many things to consider before throwing your hat into what could be a life-changing volunteering experience. Peace Corps volunteer Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado understands your enthusiasm about being more active in the volunteering community, and wants to help you select the option that allows you most enjoyable and rewarding volunteer experience.

Below, Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado offers several things every aspiring volunteer should consider before making the leap into community involvement.

Picking an Organization

We all know the many organizational choices we have, says Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado, when it comes to entering the world of volunteering. Before selecting an organization, determine whether the group is local, national or international, and where you’d like to make the most impact. Also look into the organization’s needs, capacity and track record, says Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado, before signing up.

What Are Your Convictions?

It’s important to know what your convictions are, says Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado, in order to determine where your passion will best serve those in need. Know what you care about and who it is you want to help and support. This will help you vet organizations and help you narrow down the most appropriate opportunities.

What Times Are You Available?

Knowing the specific times, as well as time amounts, you are able and willing to commit to a volunteering opportunity are crucial. Many organizations, says Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado, require an extensive time commitment, while others are more flexible. Keep your availability in mind when looking into opportunities, and be sure to let the organization know what that availability is.

Skills and Responsibilities

Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado wants you to get the most from your next opportunity, which is why he suggests looking into certain tasks and/or responsibilities that most aptly match with your skillset and talent. Nonprofits are often in need of people that understand or have experience with a certain task or duty, and can be far more effective with people that can deliver what they need. Take the time, says Sam Gray of Boulder, Colorado, to make a list of your skills, and to seek the opportunity that best allows you to display or express them.

Sam Gray of Boulder Offers Career Advice and Tips to Recent College Graduates

Finding a career can be difficult for college graduates, says Sam Gray of Boulder, though opportunities are always available to those that look in the right places.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

So you’ve survived the rigors of an intense four year college curriculum, and are now presented with the challenges of establishing a career in the “real world”. As recent Colorado University graduate Sam Gray of Boulder explains, getting a foothold in the professional community can often seem like a daunting, even overwhelming task, and can offer many potential hurdles and pitfalls to even the most prepared of graduates.

Below, multiple degree holder Sam Gray of Boulder offers some advice to those looking to not only become as viable member of the professional community, but to also find the career that best fits in line with their education and degree.

Your Career Doesn’t Have to Match Your Degree

A common mistake amongst college graduates, says Sam Gray of Boulder, is to pursue only those jobs that match up with their degrees, leaving a large resource of career opportunities virtually unexplored and untapped. Remember: Only little more than half college graduates are working in industries or fields that match their degrees. Be sure to explore all of your options before giving up on your career dreams.

Trust Information Over Theory

Information and data, says Sam Gray of Boulder, is far more useful to potential employers and companies than is the theories and hypotheses often floated around at the university level. Yes, conceptual thinking is still important in the real world, though employers trust and can better apply facts, info and data better than abstract concepts.

Establish Your Expertise

Find the thing that an organization needs, says Sam Gray of Boulder, and use your expertise to fill that need. Whatever it is, be it technology, social work, research, business operation, etc., do your best to both identify the expertise companies are looking for, and to then match that need with your own educational and experiential credentials.

Know What Your Employer Does

Many young professionals, upon entering the workforce, don’t have a solid understanding of what their company does, or the services it provides. A common mistake, says Sam Gray of Boulder, this puts the recent graduate at a disadvantage, making the opportunity to move ahead or be successful virtually nonexistent. Take your time, says Sam Gray of Boulder, to learn and truly understand what your new employer does.

Large Swiss Company Buys Airline Food Catering Business from Hawaii Resident Terry Hay

Terry Hay from Hawaii was the former CEO of an airline food catering company that he sold to Swiss Corporation Gate Gourmet.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Terry Hay from Hawaii had always had a savvy business sense. Prior to attending college, Terry served in the United States Marine Corp for two years. He also served in Vietnam.  After serving, Terry studied at UC Irvine in California.  Through college, Terry worked doing several odd jobs as a gardener, trash collector, and dishwasher.  He was always a naturally hard worker.  He graduated from UC Irvine in 1971 and moved from California to Hawaii.  With his newly obtained degree, he decided to open a small business that was run by him and one other person.  Terry quickly became a leading entrepreneur.  As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Terry was able to grow his food distribution business that was named Kamaaina Distribution Company, into a 40 person company and became one of the top 250 businesses in Hawaii.

With the success of the food distribution business, Terry Hay Hawaii decided that he would sell it and head into early retirement.  However, he wouldn't stay retired long as a new business opportunity presented itself to him, and he decided to move to New Zealand to pursue it. He started Fresh Developments in New Zealand which distributed pre-packaged salads to supermarkets.  With the success of one food distribution company under his belt, Terry was the CEO and grew Fresh Developments into a 35 person company and then sold it.

Sanders Wallis Project Benefits the Open Door Home

Sanders Wallis completed an Eagle Scout Service Project benefitting home for orphans

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Sanders Wallis holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Management from the University of Georgia at Athens. He received the degree in 2008, which at the time was the latest in a long line of achievements for the ambitious young man.

Just a few years before that, Sanders Wallis became an Eagle Scout, achieving the highest rank that a Boy Scout can earn. It is also the most difficult, requiring a Boy Scout to not only earn twenty-one merit badges, but to meet several additional requirements, including one considered by many to be its most challenging, the Eagle Scout Service Project.
As Sanders Wallis knows, service to others is built into the whole Scouting concept; the phrase "to help other people at all times" is part of the oath that every Boy Scout takes even before earning its first level rank, Tenderfoot. The Eagle Scout Service Project requirement calls for each aspirant to "plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or community."

"I did something with the Open Door Home," Sanders Wallis recalls, referring to an Atlanta-area project that benefits underprivileged kids. "Basically, I put together and organized their whole athletic and outdoor activities projects. I raised funds for new items like basketballs, baseballs, and stuff like that."

One Sanders Wallis had identified the project he wanted to undertake, he had to get it approved. At that stage his project was just a proposal, and it was taken for granted that, like virtually all other Eagle Scout Service Project proposals, it would be refined before being finalized. And sure enough, he discovered there are more that he could do.

"They didn't really have a closet or anything like that, so I built out a specialty closet for their outdoor activities. Everything was organized. And also it was the donations. So, they were able to get outside and enjoy those kinds of activities."

Once the Service Project was complete, Sanders Wallis prepared a report on it, which was used in the final review of his qualifications for becoming an Eagle Scout. The project remains something that he is proud of, and is useful to the Open Door Home to this day.

Since earning his college degree, Sanders Wallis has worked at a telecommunications company called Cbeyond, and is currently the Director of New Business Development for the Wallis Printing Company. He also holds a real estate license and plans to eventually move into that business.

Frank Cockerill - Volunteering Is a Transformative Experience

Frank Cockerill, a leading scientist and medical professional, has engaged in numerous volunteer opportunities over the course of his career, including medical missionary work in Haiti. He explains his belief that volunteer work benefits the individual, too.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Frank Cockerill is a distinguished microbiologist and leader in the medical field. He has compiled a very impressive resume over the years. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, Infectious Diseases Society of America, and American Academy of Microbiology. He is a member or has recently served as a member  on the board of the American Clinical Laboratory Association, Board of Scientific Counslors for theCenters for Disease Control, and Association for Molecular Pathology. In his free time, he prefers to unwind with leisurely activities such as gardening and playing the piano.

Frank Cockerill has engaged in numerous charitable activities over the course of his career, including providing medical missionary services in Haiti. He believes that charity work is a transformative experience for not only the community, but also the individual offering their services.

One reason that volunteer work is transformative for an individual is that it instills them with a sense of making a difference. It is important for humans to be filled with a sense of purpose in order to find happiness. Frank Cockerill can witness the good he is doing on an everyday basis but not every profession is like that. For many people, especially those working for a large organization, their efforts might not be immediately or visibly felt. It is important for people to create something through the labor of their hands. This is proven to instill a greater sense of purpose within an individual.

Another reason charitable activities are a beneficial experience for the individual, says Frank Cockerill, is that it broadens a person's awareness of their community. By performing work at the ground level, an individual has a better chance of hearing news that directly impacts them. In this same token, a person is able to build fulfilling relationships with people in their community. Humans are social creatures; it is important for us to be filled with a sense of connection to those who surround us. Frank Cockerill, a scientist and leader in the medical field, is grateful that his career has granted him the opportunity to make a substantial difference in his community.

Joby Schraier Celebrates 18th State

Joby Schraier’s job has allowed him to thoroughly tour 18 states.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Joby Schraier is a person who loves the open road just as much as the opportunity to meet new people and experience new cultures. He has been fulfilled with all of those right here in the United States; and it is all thanks to a job that requires him to travel to other states and consult new and opening businesses. While most would opt for the business-provided airline ticket; Joby almost always prefers to take a more intimate approach to his travel, and just drive. And with a taste for certain cars, he knows what vessels are best for what types of trips.

Those vehicles of choice are as follows: Cadillacs for a cozier trip; Corvette and Mustang convertibles for drier climates; Dodge Rams for trips that require lots of toys; and Jeep Wranglers for just about everything else. His first travel gig took him to New York, where he got a thorough tour of The Big Apple. Joby Schraier then got a gig in Pennsylvania, where he got an opportunity to spend time with Amish people and learn about their culture. After that, he went down to Virginia and went on many historic tours where he learned much about our nation’s history. He then went down to North Carolina, where he fell in love for BBQ, made his first attempt at surfing and drove on the beach. He then went to South Carolina, and spend some days in R&R as well as some golfing. He then went down to Georgia for a ghost tour and a hike along the Appalachian Trail. Florida was next, where he completed his surf training and also went to Universal Studios. In Alabama, he lived the simple life, fishing and living out of his pickup truck. In New Orleans, he went on a crawfish boat as well as a fan boat. In Texas, Missouri and Tennessee he rekindled his love for BBQ. And in the Western states, he had the time of his life by exploring the diverse terrain and taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Joby Schraier is proud to say that he has done 18 states, and still has plenty more to go.

Moshe Manoah Celebrates Monarchs Achievements

Moshe Manoah reflects on Monarchs 2014 year.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Moshe Manoah is a successful businessman in Atlanta, GA who is a co-founder of Monarch Investment Group. His own career history reads much like the history of success that Monarch has experienced over the past few years. With his determination, rich experience and deep knowledge of construction and real estate, he sharpened his skills over the years while his companies grew by his side. Aside from Monarch, he is also the co-founder of Crown Holdings Group, Duke Homes and Marquis Investments. But this past year, Monarch has shone as his prize company, pulling in ample business as well as recognition for their excellence in acquiring, improving and managing commercial real estate.

Moshe Manoah’s Monarch Investment Group announced in 2014 that they had set plans to refinance two of their premiere shopping centers: Hiram Square II and Snellville Place Shopping Center. Monarch has owned these properties since 2012; and they have successful since. According to Moshe Manoah "This turnaround approach is a hallmark of Monarch's strategy of providing excellent investor returns."

Also, Moshe Manoah’s Monarch Investment Group was recently listed as one of “The Best Places to Work in Atlanta” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Quantum Workplace. Its recognition in the Chronicle and Quantum wasn’t the last of their achievements in 2014, though. Most recently, the company announced that it will be adding a Gander Mountain retailer in their Promenade North shopping center in Montgomery, Alabama. Monarch first acquired the shopping center back in the spring 2014. Almost immediately after signing, they made plans to meet with Gander Mountain and see if they would open a retail shop in their shopping center. The result of that conversation is the 45,000 sq. ft. plan warehouse that will be chain’s first store to open in Montgomery. This was a huge win for the resident businesses of the shopping center, who are excited to welcome a large and known retailer who will attract a whole new set of customers and bring more business to the area. And for Moshe Manoah, Monarch’s achievements make up for the largest fraction of successes of all his businesses in 2014.

Dr. Barry Littlejohn, M.D. Explains Benefits of IUD’s

OB/GYN Dr. Barry Littlejohn notes that IUD’s are the best overall choice for birth control.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Dr. Barry Littlejohn, M.D. is a strong proponent of IUD’s, or intrauterine devices, and believes them to be the best option for women seeking long-term, reversible birth control. It’s estimated that just six percent of women in the United States have an IUD, however more than 40 percent of Dr. Littlejohn’s female colleagues have an IUD, making them the most prominent form of birth control used by physicians themselves.

An IUD is a small, T-shaped device that is inserted into a woman’s uterus and works to affect the movements of sperm after unprotected sex. By disrupting their movements, IUD’s prevent sperms from reaching and fertilizing an egg, thus eliminating the risk for pregnancy. An IUD is easily inserted by a medical professional, and a single IUD can be effective for up to 12 years.

There are two types of IUD’s. One is made by ParaGuard and is made of copper. This type of IUD stays effective for up to 12 years and can even be used as emergency contraception in the event of unplanned, unprotected sex if inserted within 120 hours after sexual intercourse. The other type of IUD is made by both Mirena and Skyla, and is made of plastic and contains hormones. The IUD slowly releases these hormones, and this type is effective for three to five years. While it has a shorter life than the ParaGuard IUD, the hormone-rich form can reduce or eliminate a woman’s period altogether.

Both copper and hormonal IUD’s are extremely effective in eliminating the risk for pregnancy. Additionally, Dr. Barry Littlejohn, M.D. notes that although the price of an IUD can range from $0 to $1000–depending on a patient’s insurance–the length of time an IUD is effective makes it a largely effective long-term option for birth control.

While Dr. Littlejohn frequently recommends patients at his eponymous Glendale, Ariz. practice get an IUD, they are not for everyone. Just like any procedure or treatment, each has various needs and conditions that need to be considered when receiving an IUD. Dr. Littlejohn recommends that anyone curious about getting an IUD should simply consult their physician, and, if an IUD is not the best option, their doctor will recommend the best type of birth control that suits their needs.

Sherwood Newkirk Shares on His Love for Classic Cars

Sherwood Newkirk is a small town executive who has an unmatched appreciation for classic cars, and has helped in car restoration projects.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Sherwood Newkirk, owner of Sherwood Cleaning Services based in Knightdale, North Carolina, is an avid fan of cars. For as long as he can remember, he has always loved cars, with classics among his favorite. To keep up with his passion, he follows television shows about cars, and often attends car shows when they are near his neighborhood.

To the normal car lover, there’s no shortage of information regarding cars. Every month features a car event in some location around the country, not to mention the variety of car shows that fans are treated to. Sherwood Newkirk loves those shows that feature car maintenance and restoration. As a fan of classic muscle cars, he has been in involved in a number of restoration projects. Thus, he knows the effort and passion car lovers put into making such road beasts come to life again.

While restoring classic cars can take quite a bit of time, Sherwood Newkirk knows the benefits that accrue from all the time and effort. Because you’ll be spending so much time with the car, you will get to know the car pretty well. Work on a classic car is never complete, acknowledges Sherwood, and over time, you develop a relationship with the car. It might not be able to speak back, but simply knowing that your efforts helped make it run again will leave you happy.

Of course, no successful car restoration project will be complete without the admiration of neighbors. Sometimes, people you don’t know will want to introduce themselves and admire your work. Sherwood Newkirk knows this all too well, and smiles every time an unknown neighbor wants to admire his work. The good thing with such admiration is that car aficionados of that level are a small circle, so he encounters people who have genuinely good advice.

In all, the classic car versions of the 1960s and 1970s were machines of beauty whose level of detail has yet to be replicated in newer car models. For this reason, Sherwood Newkirk has strived to keep his passion of classic cars alive.

Piece of the Past owner Kevin Martin Opens Up on His Journey to Success

Piece of the Past is the world’s largest wholesaler of autographed entertainment memorabilia, a position that has required the tireless efforts of CEO Kevin Martin.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

To a serious entertainment memorabilia collector, no other company comes close to providing wholly authentic items like Piece of the Past. Under the leadership of owner and CEO Kevin Martin, the company has come a long way from its humble beginnings, with much of its success because of the wise decision making of its leader.

“When authenticity matters, collectors choose a piece of the past” is the motto that the company lives up to. In a little over three decades, Kevin Martin has built a formidable giant in the entertainment memorabilia industry – the largest wholesaler of autographed items. Such distinction did not come by easily, as it took wise moves by Kevin Martin to get to its current position. Still, he is happy for the journey, even though it did not start as anyone would envision.

Upon graduating college, Kevin Martin worked as a corporate magician for Walt Disney World. Even then, he set his sights one becoming the best, and was a member of several esteemed magician societies. The work was rewarding and along the way, he started “Final Frontier Comics,” a comic book chain on the East Coast that grew to become the largest in the country at one point. With the success of the comic book stores, the idea to focus on autographed memorabilia dawned on Kevin, and after selling the stores, he established Piece of the Past.

Over the years, Piece of the Past has become known for its adherence to selling authentic items. Additionally, the store has built an impressive rapport with celebrities and has conducted ten times more private autograph signings (200) than any other company in the world. On his part, Kevin Martin has developed into an expert autograph authenticator, having researched and published extensively on the topic.

“People should care that when they buy an item that needs to be authentic they are buying from someone who offers a certificate of authenticity that has a lifetime guarantee attached to it such as ours,” says Kevin Martin, emphasizing the fact that collectors will rarely be disappointed when dealing with reputable dealers like Piece of the Past.

Scott Krautman Volunteers With Adult Literacy Project

Scott Krautman says adult illiteracy is a big problem and wants to do something about it

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Scott Krautman is a sales and marketing executive at a small TV station in Florida. He is also a volunteer instructor in the Adult Literacy Project, a program sponsored by the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County.

He says that there was time in his life that he seldom gave much thought to the issue of illiteracy. Then came a life-changing encounter with the building manager where he lived off-campus, as a student at Florida Gulf Coast University. "He was a good guy, a middle-aged guy who was friendly and responsive to the needs of his tenants," Scott Krautman recalls. One day the building manager stunned him by asking him to read a medicine label for him. "I could tell he was humiliated, having to ask me that. But he had a sick kid. He got a prescription but couldn't read the label, so he swallowed his pride and asked this smart-aleck college kid, which is what I was at the time, to read it for him."

That incident, and the memory of that likeable building manager, has made a huge difference in the life of Scott Krautman, although not right away. It wasn't until after he had graduated with a degree in marketing from FGCU, got out in the world and started a family of his own, that he got involved with the Adult Literacy Project. "My own kid was sick, and as I gave her some medicine one day, I remembered that building manager. And I thought how being able to read a medicine label was such a simple thing that I took for granted. I called the Literacy Coalition the very next day."

That was five years ago, and Scott Krautman has been volunteering as a literacy instructor ever since. He says that there is no typical person that he works with; there is no stereotyped illiterate person. "I've come to admire most of the people I work with, because most of them are like that building manager. Decent people who for one reason or another never learned how to read, or to read proficiently. But they have the courage and determination to do something about it."

Since becoming associated with the Literacy Coalition, Scott Krautman has become very well-informed on the issue. "About fourteen percent of all adults in this country can't read," he says. "There is a link between illiteracy and incarceration rates, and employment rates. So being able to read and write matters. It matters a great deal. And I'm trying to do something about it."

Karen Gaba - A Passion Rekindled

Karen Gaba has found a career in an old passion of hers.

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Karen Gaba had a passion for sports and swimming from a young age.  She started swimming competitively at just five years old, something that she would continue to do throughout high school.  After graduating high school, Karen was offered a position at Bankers National Life Insurance where she would work for twelve years.  Once Bankers National Life Insurance decided to relocate, Karen had to find a new job.  She decided to look toward her childhood passion of swimming.

Karen Gaba knew that she wanted to do something different.  She enrolled in classes at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in Health and Physical Education, which she would achieve in 1997.  By 1999, she would take her first position coaching swimming as an assistant swim coach for the Tappan Zee High School Boys’ Junior Varsity Swim Team.  By 2002, Karen had become the Varsity Swim Coach for Tappan Zee; she would lead the boys’ swim team to an 18-4 record and consecutive Rockland County Championships.  Tappan Zee was where she initially created competitive training workouts for both the girls’ and boys’ teams, but she would take her training techniques to other schools, finding success wherever she coached.

Six years after obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education she went back to school to obtain her Master’s degree in Special Education.  She achieved her Master’s degree in 2003 from Long Island University, by which time she was in the midst of achieving success at Tappan Zee High.  By 2004, she would move on to coach for a new school, Millburn High, where she improved the team record from 1-7 to 4-4 and increased swim team enrollment from 12 members to 25 within just a year.

From Millburn, Karen went to Jefferson High where the boys’ and girls’ teams broke nine school records in their first season with Karen as coach.  Karen led the boys’ team to their first undefeated season and was honored by the New Jersey Herald as Coach of the Year in 2007 and again in 2010.  Karen now teaches swim technique privately for competitive swimmers.

Sam Gray of Boulder CO Brings ESL skills to the Dominican Republic

Sam Gray of Boulder CO is a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English in the Dominican Republic

PZ Media Inc's insight:

Sam Gray of Boulder CO has been in the Dominican Republic since March of 2014, where as a Peace Corps volunteer he is helping to get an ecotourism project off the ground.

The project involves a new business of kayak tours (http://kayaklimon.wordpress.com) through a remote lagoon in the north east part of the Dominican Republic. The lagoon, called Laguna Limon, is part of a system of lagoons in the region and was declared a wildlife refuge by the Dominican government in 2004.

"Sam reports that the area is spectacularly beautiful, and his job now is to get the word out to people to come to the area," says a friend. The project is meant to diversify the local economy in a way that protects the environment, but provides for sustainability.

In addition to holding two undergraduate degrees, Sam Gray of Boulder CO has certification to teach English as a second language. Part of his Peace Corps job is to help with English development, as well as with business planning and advertising, in this emerging tourist location.

Sam Gray of Boulder CO is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where he earned degrees in Economics and International Affairs. As he knows, the ecotourism project, to be sustainable, must not only be profitable. It also has to produce specific benefits to the environment, the local community, and visitors. These benefits must be inter-related so that they reinforce each other. This is what is known as the triple bottom line.

Now that he has been through the Peace Corps training and his real work is getting underway, Sam Gray of Boulder CO is getting to know the members of his community. He has already participated in leading two kayak tours, although his job is not to be one of the guides.

As the term suggests, ecotourism is a form of tourism that is directed toward exotic, often threatened natural environments, in which the tourists taking part are able to support conservation efforts and simultaneously observe a unique, natural area, such as Laguna Limon. As Sam Gray of Boulder CO knows, the tour guides in the ecotourism kayaking business he is involved with will be highly trained and able to tell tourists about the area's unique flora and fauna, the lagoon's ecosystem, and its history.
