A great tutoriel on creating captions for movies with iBooks.

The software looked at work however only on a Mac that has the following tools:  MovieCaptioner, MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, ClosedCaptionImporter, plugin for QuickTime, iBooks Author. So, very limited in its scope!

Frank Lowney's comment, June 22, 2013 5:26 PM
Movie Captioner also supports SRT subtitles which, IMHO, are superior to SCC as used here. Now that iBooks Author no longer deletes extra tracks, you can use soft subtitles. In addition to a better appearance, you can have multiple soft subtitle tracks to support multiple languages. These can be coordinated with multiple alternate audio tracks to support multiple languages and the visually impaired as well.

Workers Win the War

Workers Win the War | Publishing with iBooks Author | Scoop.it

My new multimedia iBook "Workers Win the War: Toil and Sacrifice on the US Homefront" [less than a latte] will take you back in time to experience first-hand how the government mobilized public support for the war through higher taxes, hard work and sacrifice. Contrast that era with our "homefront" experience today, when only our troops and their families have been asked to make sacrifices for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Peter Pappas's insight:

This book is rich with WWII media - 80 posters, 18 films, cartoons, radio broadcast, recording and sheet music and a dozen rarely-seen pamphlets - from Bugs Bunny selling bonds in blackface, to Burns and Allen joking on the radio about rationing, to posters claiming taking a sick day was treasonous.

My iBook "Why We Fight: WWII and the Art of Public Persuasion" is now available on iTunes. http://bit.ly/VfqckS

See rarely seen wartime videos, posters and ephemera examining how US govt sold the war to the American public.

Designed as multi-touch student text, it focuses on the American response to WWII - especially the very active role played by government in shaping American behavior and attitudes. It gives students a chance to step back to the 1940s and experience the perspective of Americans responding to the Pearl Harbor attack and WWII.

To the best of my knowledge the material is in the public domain. Do you have a specific example?
Robert Rozema's comment, December 3, 2012 12:18 PM
I'm using newspaper articles and AP photos, so these aren't public domain. Perhaps the government-produced propaganda posters are indeed public domain?
