Creating animations has always been considered as one of the most complex aspects of graphic design that requires specific software and technological expertise. It is a time-intensive activity that requires heavy software and high speed computers.

However, over the past few years, the emergence of different online presentation and animation tools have simplified the process of creating animations...

Making the best use of #Evernote and #GoogleDrive

Michaela Vila's curator insight, February 13, 2014 11:42 AM

This is a fantastic idea for students to combined PBL and technology. I think this is also a way for teachers to digitally document PBL. I use an iPad and Evernote every day for school, but I never thought of it being a tool for as a future teacher. Though this idea would could only be used for a small amount of classrooms right now, I love this idea and I want to keep it in my back pocket.

European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning

European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning | Publishing | Scoop.it

Higher education institutions face a number of opportunities and challenges as the result of the digital revolution. The institutions perform a number of scholarship functions which can be affected by new technologies, and the desire is to retain these functions where appropriate, whilst the form they take may change. Much of the reaction to technological change comes from those with a vested interest in either wholesale change or maintaining the status quo. Taking the resilience metaphor from ecology, the authors propose a framework for analysing an institution’s ability to adapt to digital challenges. This framework is examined at two institutions (the UK Open University and Canada’s Athabasca University) using two current digital challenges, namely Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Access publishing.

How I see the SAMR Model - Allanah King

How I see the SAMR Model - Allanah King | Publishing | Scoop.it

"Everyone is talking about the SAMR model for eLearning.

A principal emailed me this week wanting to know more about the concept so I emailed her with a reply but thought it may be useful to add my thoughts more publicly too.

The SAMR model is based on the thinkings of Ruben Puentedura.

In a nutshell here is how I see what the SAMR letters stand for.

S- Substitution- would be you just used an iPad as a flash sort of text book for the kids to read and copy from.

A- Augmentation- you might have the text book read to you via Speech Selection so that is moving things up a notch.

M- Modification- You might make your own book using Book Creator that includes graphics, audio, video and hyperlinks etc

R- Redefinition- You might have students all collaborating making pages for a Book Creator including graphics, audio, video and hyperlinks etc and combining them in one book which you then publish it on iTunes."

Maria Persson's curator insight, September 12, 2013 5:56 PM

I find the most fascinating part of this model is the M-modification which is not just changing an old paper ducument and digitalizing it - it is turning the document into a learning tool that barely resembles the original...room for creativity and reflection and perhaps collaboration with others.  Allanah - nice work with presentaion using 'Explain Everything' app :-)

Chunks, bits and short modules make learning more manageable and easier to integrate into long-term memory. Long classroom or web-based training courses may accomplish the function of training, but rarely achieve desired retention rates. Instead of just dumping information on the learner, employees are expecting the content to be easy to find, relevant and digestible in the way their brains process information.

The 21st-Century Digital Learner

The 21st-Century Digital Learner | Publishing | Scoop.it

After hosting dozens of these conversations, I realize one thing: We just don't listen enough to our students. The tradition in education has been not to ask the students what they think or want, but rather for adult educators to design the system and curriculum by themselves, using their "superior" knowledge and experience.

Via Nik Peachey
more...
Aunty Alice's curator insight, October 24, 2013 5:27 PM

Just as speaking is the outcome of listening, so writing is the outcome of reading, not the other way round. Listening to the student should also include "listening" to their writing. ie., analyse what they are saying and how they are doing it.  When students evaluate their own work, the teacher should listen and guide them to ways of improving it, whether it be punctuation, paragraphing, spelling, or word or subject knowledge.  This is how we bring students on board and empower them to learn.

Aunty Alice's curator insight, October 31, 2013 4:49 PM

Listening to students has two aspects; listening to what they say orally, and 'listening' to their writing which is only another way of talking, only through a code. Just as learning to speak is tied closely to listening to what is said and being exposed to words that help one to think better, so writing is the same  and relies on reading "or listening" to what others say and how they say it to express clear meaning. The two subjects, reading and writing, are closlely intertwined yet we compartmentalize them in the literacy curriculum. An example of adults thinking they know what is best for children.
