15-Second Films Taking Instagram By Storm

15-Second Films Taking Instagram By Storm | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Shield 5 is a captivating new thriller that follows a wrongfully accused man on the run, desperate to clear his name. It has a lot in common with shows like Homeland and 24, except for one tiny thing: Each episode is only 15 seconds long.

Shield 5 is a new dramatic and cinematic series being released on Instagram in installments, just one recent example of what is being labeled as "social cinema." It is the brainchild of British director Anthony Wilcox, who was looking for a quick project to work on while he finished developing a bigger feature. "I’ve done a few short things online as a director-for-hire, and the fast turnaround of those things excited me. I was looking for a way to do that, but telling my own story," Wilcox told Fast Company....

Fascinating storytelling and video production debuting on Instagram as "social cinema" starts to grow.

An In-Depth Analysis of News Video Consumption | MediaShift

An In-Depth Analysis of News Video Consumption | MediaShift | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Consumption of news video online has been on the rise for years, in terms of both time spent watching and percentage of news consumers who watch. This trend is expected to continue. Accordingly, revenue from video display ads has also increased, and at a faster rate than for any other display category. In this post, we’ll attempt to benchmark the current state of news video consumption and highlight the practical implications for publishers.

We’ll use data covering all visits during the first two weeks of December 2015 to the sites of more than 50 publishers for which both page and video analytics were available. (Note: all of this data is anonymous and aggregated.) These publishers vary widely in readership and content — from major international news sources to niche, topic-specific sites — as well as in their production and usage of video content. Of course, because these results are aggregated, they may not necessarily reflect the experiences of specific sites....

Why Internet Users Abandon Digital Videos - eMarketer

Why Internet Users Abandon Digital Videos - eMarketer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

A survey from Limelight Networks revealed that there are many reasons why internet users in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US abandon digital videos. Advertising was one of the main ones. For example, 61.8% of respondents said that if there were too many ads during the video, they would stop watching.

Similarly, 26.7% of internet users said that if there was an ad before the video and they couldn’t skip it, then they would abandon that video. Even skippable pre-rolls were a turnoff: 16.4% of respondents said they would abandon any videos with ads running first....

Is Video Marketing the New King of Content?

Is Video Marketing the New King of Content? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Video ad sharing has improved 63 times over in the last ten years. Part of the reason for this is the increase in technology, so anyone can view videos both at home and on the go. Nevertheless, the general increase in popularity is also to blame for this.

If we look at recent times, we can see that in 2014 the most popular ad gained 5.8 million shares. Compare this to 2006 where the most popular ad gained a mere 92,000 shares.

Social media platforms Vine and Instagram are leading the way in video marketing. Vine managed to gain 1.5 billion daily views at the beginning of 2015.

Another reason why video marketing is so successful is that the brain can process visual media 60,000 times faster than it can process text. In a world where people are more impatient than ever before, video makes a big difference....

Video rocks marketing.

Over-the-Top Streaming Video Services to Reach 330 Million+ Subscribers By 2019

Over-the-Top Streaming Video Services to Reach 330 Million+ Subscribers By 2019 | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Consumer adoption of streaming video services is surging, according to a new report by Juniper Research out this morning, which finds that subscriber numbers for services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video will grow from 92.1 million in 2014 to 333.2 million global subscriptions by 2019.

Connected TVs and streaming media devices like Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Chromecast will be driving this adoption, as will connected game consoles and set-top boxes that provide streaming video as pre-loaded services....

In contrast, the newer streaming media devices are making watching over-the-top services more accessible on the big screen of the living room TV. They not only simplify the process of getting connected, but they’re also often sold at price points so low – Chromecast is $35 and the Fire TV Stick is $39, for example – that buying a streaming media stick is almost a no-brainer for many consumers....

Where Are UK Marketers Distributing Content? - eMarketer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Content marketing is widespread in the UK, according to 2015 research that found nearly nine in 10 marketers in the country use it. Tactics are tilting toward video, and YouTube has become a more important part of the landscape.

The Content Marketing Institute (CMI) and Lionbridge asked content marketers in the UK what social sites they were using to distribute content in 2015, after asking the same question the previous two years.

LinkedIn was No. 1, at 93%, slightly down from 2014 but maintaining its rank. Twitter, similarly, continued in second place, at 92%.

There was significant movement for YouTube in terms of the share of content marketers using it, however: it rose from 65% in 2013 to 68% last year and then dramatically to 81% of content marketers this year. Use of video as a tactic is also up: from 73% of content marketers in 2014 to 83% this year....

Sorrell: Online Video Ad Growth Threatened By Faulty Measurement

Sorrell: Online Video Ad Growth Threatened By Faulty Measurement | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

WPP CEO Martin Sorrell told analysts on a Wednesday morning conference call that he’d like to see Rentrak and comScore “come together” to devise a solution for what Sorrell described as the “faulty measurement” for media that exists in the U.S. WPP has made investments in both those companies.

Asked if he meant that the two media research companies should merge to create a new business entity, Sorrell replied that he would “welcome cooperation of any nature” by the companies to address U.S. media measurement — particularly online video measurement, whose value is being increasingly questioned by clients. Marketers are worried about viewability levels and related standards and verification issues, Sorrell said.

Sorrell added that the current two-second viewability standard is “pretty ludicrous,” and that some clients are rolling back their commitments to online video because they can’t justify the investments based on current measurement and verification standards....

What makes video content marketing great? Follow these key principles

What makes video content marketing great? Follow these key principles | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

There is a cartoon from Tom Fishburne of Marketoonist where a young child says to her father at bedtime: “Daddy, instead of a story, can you read me some branded content?” Even though the cartoon was penned in 2013, the message still resonates. Anyone reading this will know content marketing can be a jewel in a campaign’s crown, but if it’s too obviously ‘branded content’, consumers will spot it a mile off and tune out much like they do with regular advertising.

By throwing another platform into the equation, such as video, it’s simply not good enough to assume the platform you’re using is the differentiator, and just repeat the same content. “The video media landscape is more sophisticated than ever, with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine revolutionising rich content discovery,” a paper from Cedar Consult argues. “The time has come for branded video to raise its game....”
