Client Want to Go Viral? How to Make A Great B2B Video: Start with the Story - CommPRO.biz | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

“Let’s produce a video and make it go viral,” is a statement we have been hearing frequently. Marketing folks at B2B companies must think, “if we create it, they will come”, or ‘view it’ in this case. That’s a lot easier said than done and it’s an art form to create a truly compelling online video. However, this article will give you the tools and aspects to consider in order to create a video that has a chance of “going viral.”...

Becoming a "Corporate Executive Tweeter" | Social Media Today

Becoming a "Corporate Executive Tweeter" | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
When I started to run my own business years ago, I never would have guessed that, come 2012, I would be expected to update the internet on my life in 140 characters or less.

Yet here I am, keeping as close an eye on my Twitter feed as I do on my iPhone and e-mail. In this digital age CEO’s are expected to tweet.

An excellent little article by e-marketer on research done by social branding firm BRANDFog tells us that 78% of people surveyed on topics related to businesses using social media felt that CEO participation leads to better communication, and 77% of respondents said they were either more likely or much more likely to buy a product from a company that uses social media to help define a company’s image....

Journalism Inside® | BuzzMachine | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
I wonder whether we should be teaching journalists to embed themselves and their abilities into the world rather than always making the world come to them....

Companies are clamoring to hire more programmers and investors are dying to back what they do. Everybody wants more code inside their endeavors. So imagine an economy in which companies and investors want journalism inside: “We need to get us some journalists!”

It’s not quite as insane as it sounds if we rethink what a journalist does. Journalists and programmers aren’t really so different. In the the research on innovation and news we commissioned at the Tow-Knight Center, Nick Diakopoulos notes their similarity: “One of journalism’s primary raisons d’être is in gathering, producing, and disseminating information and knowledge…. What is perhaps most interesting about these processes is that they can, in theory, all be executed either by people, or by computers.” Nick’s point is not that technology would replace journalists but instead that technology provides new opportunities for news....

How NOT to Market to Latinos: A Lesson from Spirit Airlines’ Sex Tactics.

How NOT to Market to Latinos: A Lesson from Spirit Airlines’ Sex Tactics. | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

How much more do you want to hear about the U.S. Secret Service sex scandal in Cartagena, Colombia? While American media continues to obsess over the gory details behind a night of too much ‘fun,’ a parallel story of outrage and marketing non-sense has emerged causing Spirit Airlines to shut down its campaign ‘Get More Bang for your Buck.’

Leveraging the hype and attention over the news in Cartagena, the ‘cheap’ airline -figuratively and literally speaking- took opportunistic advantage of the news to create a banner ad and promotion implying sex tourism to Cartagena, Colombia. While this is not the first time Spirit Airlines uses racy advertising to lure its customers, this time around the collateral damage of poor insights, targeting and messaging may result in a big hit to the bottom line by upsetting Latinos at large....

Getting the News — Martin Nisenholtz

...Martin was with the Times from the very beginning of their digital strategy. He led the teams that created and developed the website, the Times emails, the mobile apps, the Twitter accounts, the paywall… the list goes on. He also was behind the decision to adopt Dave Winer’s RSS standard for news, which quickly made RSS the only standard for news syndication for many years. Martin saw the future of news years before the rest of us did. He was kind enough to come by our offices and tell us a little of what he knows — which includes not just an exhaustive understanding of user experience of news, but also what makes some news products work, while others fail....

LinkedIn 4 Times Better Than Facebook & Twitter For B2B Leads | Simply Zesty

LinkedIn 4 Times Better Than Facebook & Twitter For B2B Leads | Simply Zesty | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

While not as illustrious as other sites, LinkedIn has developed a solid footing by becoming the main portal for businesses and professionals to establish a presence online. While it doesn’t have the user numbers Facebook boasts, its main pull is its ability to generate leads for businesses and customers. Back in January, Hubspot compiled a study that found LinkedIn generated the highest visitor-to-lead conversion rate at 2.74 per cent, three times higher than both Twitter and Facebook.

Now new research has emerged which shows that the gap separating LinkedIn with Facebook and Twitter has increased with the site’s visitor-to-lead conversion rate being four times greater, according to new findings from Hubspot....

Rosen’s Trust Puzzler: What Explains Falling Confidence in the Press? » Pressthink

Rosen’s Trust Puzzler: What Explains Falling Confidence in the Press? » Pressthink | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

As you can see from the chart, the percentage of Americans who had a “great deal” or a “fair amount” of trust in the news media has declined from over 70 percent shortly after Watergate to about 44 percent today.

Why? That is my question in this post.

What makes it a puzzle is that during that same period, several other things were happening. Journalists were becoming better educated. They were more likely to go to journalism school, my institution. During this period, the cultural cachet of being a journalist was on the rise. Newsrooms were getting bigger, too: more boots on the ground to cover the news. Journalism was becoming less of a trade and more of a profession. Most people who study the press would say that the influence of professional standards, such as you would find in this code, was increasing.

So the puzzle is: how do these things fit together? More of a profession, more educated people going into journalism, a more desirable career, greater cultural standing (although never great pay) bigger staffs, more people to do the work … and the result of all that is less trust....

Online journalism shines in 2012 Pulitzer picks

Online journalism shines in 2012 Pulitzer picks | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
The Huffington Post and Politico join the ranks of online-only (or online-mostly) Pulitzer winners.

...Of the 14 Pulitzer Prizes that were awarded for journalism, nine went to traditional newspapers. Of the five others, two went to HuffPo and Politico; one went to Seattle alt-weekly The Stranger; and two went to venerable wire services AP and AFP. (It was AFP’s first; it was AP’s 50th. The 14 journalism Pulitzers came in 13 categories; no one won for editorial writing, and two awards were given for investigative reporting.)

Engage through Storytelling « Resources Now | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Storytelling can be an effective tool to engage donors or empower volunteers, but finding the right way to collect and capture stories can be a challenge. In the short video,“Methods for Collecting and Using your Nonprofit’s Stories,” Zan McColloch-Lussier from Mixtape Communications, offers some simple, practical tips to help non-profit communicators collect and share stories.

I couldn't have said it better. Go watch this 4:45 min. video with quick tips for how to set up a story collection process within your organization. Doing so is what I call "sustainable storytelling" because you are embedding story collection and sharing within the daily work practices of your organization.

Creating processes and systems like those shared in this video creates ongoing success with business and nonprofit storytelling. Otherwise, all that money you spent on a biz story workshop or new cool video becomes a mere one-off event -- like vaporware.
