What Business Bloggers Can Learn from Journalists - Content Mastery Guide | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Integrated Communications and the "New" Newsroom - D50 Media - D50 Media | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Story telling is the new PR and marketing on social steroids. Brands and even the media, have had to rethink their content strategy.

...Our world is now immersed in a 24/7, 365 news cycle and it has caused mayhem for brands and for the agencies that work with them. There’s advertisers doing PR. Digital shops doing print media. PR shops doing traditional advertising strategy. Basically, the communications world has been flipped on it’s head. There’s no way to figure out what’s heads or tails.

One thing is for certain, however, storytelling is the main focus of companies and PR, digital marketing and advertising all have a role in it....

The Flack: Those Five-Star Reviews

The Flack: Those Five-Star Reviews | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

How important are consumer-generated reviews in your purchase-making decisions? If you're like me, the answer is VERY. When assessing hotels, the write-ups on Virtual Tourist and Trip Advisor invariably make or break my booking. The reviews on Yelp play the deciding role in tipping the restaurant scales. Same with Fandango for movie reviews.

Then there's the granddaddy of them all, Amazon, which recognized the intrinsic value of its customers' reviews early on in the game. It even applied for and was granted a patent.

As I think about it, nearly all of the big-branded retail websites today allow customers to weigh in -- good, bad and ugly....

Where have all the celebrity CEOs gone?

Where have all the celebrity CEOs gone? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

I was asked where all the celebrity CEOs had gone which made me recall my first book on CEO reputation. The book was released at the height of the dot com boom when 22 year old CEOs were the norm and celebrity CEOs were plentiful. In my book, I tried to make the point that it was not CEO celebrity that mattered but CEO credibility.

As I was answering this question, I realized that I hit on some of the right notes as to why CEO celebrity was not the same today but missed a few. In fact, I mentioned that being CEO today was not an easy job whatsoever. CEOs are much more embattled. Here are some of the reasons I talked about yesterday but others as well taken from an Economist article I was saving to post about....

David Skok: Aggregation is deep in journalism’s DNA

David Skok: Aggregation is deep in journalism’s DNA | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
The aggregators of today will be the original reporters of tomorrow — it's how disruption happens.

This past weekend, I was out with a friend who happens to be a former editor at Time. We were analyzing the current state of the news media in light of recent developments, including The Huffington Post’s plans to launch a 24-hour live web TV network and Buzzfeed’s aggressive push into politics. These organizations — often lambasted for aggregating other’s content while producing little of their own — are repositioning themselves with new strategies, with more room for distinctive, often original content.

My friend argued this was nothing new. Henry Luce’s Time started as a full-fledged aggregator almost 89 years ago....
