Vital PR statistics you need, from Hacked Off Flack | PRmoment | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Do you have the right number of friends, contacts and clients to call yourself a success? Hacked Off asks, do your PR numbers add up? So far today I have written three press releases, made six phone calls, attended one meeting and drunk four cups of coffee. And as I am being abstemious, I have only eaten one cake. These numbers add up to a typical morning. But do I have the right numbers to add up to a successful PRO? Here are the numbers that count in PR...

Why Companies Need To See The Light At the End of the Funnel

Why Companies Need To See The Light At the End of the Funnel | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Brian Solis explains why companies need to get out of the "sales funnel" mindset for converting customers and start taking a more social and experiential approach to marketing....

Over the years, businesses have developed sales, marketing, and service strategies around the sales funnel. The model of awareness, interest, desire, and action describes the likely steps a customer may take in making a decision. If only the world were that simple. It was assumed that the linear path of the funnel would continue despite the evolution of technology and behavior. That has changed. Today, the customer journey goes beyond a simple sales funnel. Yet it is the funnel model that dictates how businesses invest in product development, sales, marketing, and service strategies. It’s a big problem....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Marketers need to shift their attention away from the "old funnel" model to the engagement model of social media.

Infographic: Customer experience in the digital age | MarketingSherpa Blog

Infographic: Customer experience in the digital age | MarketingSherpa Blog | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

In this MarketingSherpa blog post, we analyze an infographic discussing customer service in the digital age. Learn how only 7% of marketers felt their brand experience was affected by social networks, and why that may or may not be the case....

... MarketingSherpa: What were some of the key findings?

Thom Robbins: Company websites were second (25%) behind word of mouth (28%) in weighing most heavily on impacting brand affinity. In-store experiences factored [at] 18%. Perhaps most surprising was the discovery that only 7% of respondents felt their brand experience was affected by social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, but I think this may be misleading. People may be influenced by social media a lot more than they think they are, through both direct and indirect interactions.

MS: Did any results come as a surprise?

TR: Other than the small role social media seemed to have, which I think merely shows us it’s a channel still on the rise, I was most surprised to see that 69% of those surveyed said they were willing to give up personal data in exchange for more customized service....

5 Reasons Why You Need An Integrated Social Business Strategy | Our Social Times

5 Reasons Why You Need An Integrated Social Business Strategy | Our Social Times | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

...just because you’re using social media for business, that doesn’t make you a “social business”. Far fewer companies have applied the principles of social networking throughout their business; in many cases the Facebook and Twitter presence is just a Social Façade, a marketing layer that aims to disguise that in the rest of the company it’s the same old anti-social business as usual.

Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using social media as a marketing channel. But to see social solely for this purpose means missing out on much wider potential benefits. A report by McKinsey Global Institute in July 2012 claims that “while 72% of companies use social technologies in some way, very few are anywhere near to achieving the full potential benefit.”...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

There's more to being a "social business" than just being on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

How to Stop Jargon From Pulling the Plug Out of Your Powerful Content

How to Stop Jargon From Pulling the Plug Out of Your Powerful Content | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Use these examples and key points to convince your clients and your peers to rise above the sea of jargon we all navigate every day... .

.. So before you reach for jargon when you create content, ask yourself questions like, “What message am I trying to communicate here?” “Will my target audience find it both relatable and compelling, or am I resorting to jargon as a crutch because I don’t honestly know what I’m attempting to say?” Or, even worse, “Am I inventing made-up language to create what can be promptly dismissed as pseudo science?”

If the answer to that last question is “yes,” then you’ll risk allowing jargon overload to defeat the purpose of the content by undermining the messaging campaign. An influential teacher inspires desired outcomes from students (i.e., acquired knowledge) by demystifying the unknown. As content marketing professionals, we should push ourselves — and our clients — toward this same standard....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Jargonators begone. You can't create clear, powerful content on a foundation of jargon.

Why Instagram Rules the Social Media World | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Do you remember “show and tell” from your elementary school days? This is the exact approach social media business users should be taking. Too often businesses merely tell followers why their product or service is worthy of a purchase....

The second-best thing about Instagram is it makes extremely amateur “photographers” like me feel as though we’re capable of taking professional-quality pictures. The first-best thing: Instagram offers almost everything a business user could want in a social network, so much so, it’s (dare I say) the most effective platform out there. Augmented Reality for Print Using the Layar

Augmented Reality for Print Using the Layar | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

If you need help bridging the gap between printed medium and the digital one then you need an app called Layar....

...With the traditional printed paper, words and images tell the story. With the application of Layar, those words are given a voice and the images become video, immersing the reader in content beyond the paragraph, but without ever leaving the printed page.

Readers simply hold their mobile device up to the page and access the digital content that pops up on their screen. A button to a website or to share that content on Social Media. Buttons to click that call a person or company in the articles, or playing a video that expands upon the dynamic photo printed.

Newspaper advertisers can add an AR button that takes users to product sales pages to get more details and even purchase right from their device. Newspapers and magazines can even expand their news offering through the creation of news channels on YouTube and linking to “on-the-scene” video by reporters. Suddenly, that blah newspaper is no longer blah....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This is a very interesting app with tons of potential for marketing, storytelling and content marketing, not to mention a much more interesting, engaging and involving opportunity for use media.

Thought Leadership Content: The Art of the Charticle | Business 2 Community

Thought Leadership Content: The Art of the Charticle | Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

...One has to look no further than the pages of a USA Today to see just how the charticle has taken its rightful place as a journalistic vehicle for today’s time and attention-starved news consumers. A few minutes with quick visual coupled with scannable text and we know just about everything going on in the world. In fact, some writing sites even advise would-be writers to skip the feature article and submit a quick-impact charticle for consideration.

What is a Charticle?

Charticles – as defined by Omaha World-Herald Deputy Presentation Editor Josh Crutchmer – are combinations of text, images and graphics that take the place of a full article. They are often used by bloggers and journalists alike to express one big idea with a bit of narrative provided by the supporting text that follows or sets up the big visual or chart that’s usually the feature in the post. In many cases, the chart featured in the charticle could likely stand on its own, as in, the data is typically that compelling. Moreover, that’s also what makes it worth writing about. The charticle is singular in focus and offers a great opportunity for expressing a succinct thought leadership point of view on a relevant bit of data....

CapitalOneSparkVoice: Marketing To Millennials: You Have To Do It Their Way

CapitalOneSparkVoice: Marketing To Millennials: You Have To Do It Their Way | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Secrets to millennial marketing success? ... Fromm recommends small businesses constantly make “little bets,” taking small risks on novel products and services that might hit big.

“If you’re going to win with millennials, you have to temporarily suspend your notion of ROI and EBITDA,” he says. “You have to make little bets and see if they win or lose in the real world. Test things that are way beyond your definition of normal and see if they work. Technology allows you to do that every day.”

Social channels will tell you quickly if your wagers are effective or not. “The little-bets theory is based on the fact that millennials are willing to experiment because it’s part of their adventurous DNA,” Fromm says. “And if it’s a hit with millennials, others will follow.”...

Wanna promote your blog or website? Let’s talk about content marketing.

What is Content Marketing?

I think a lot of bloggers are under the misconception that content marketing is a combination of the posts you publish on your own blog, the guest posts you get published, and article marketing. But it’s so much more than that. Content marketing refers to any content you publish anywhere: eBooks and white papers Mini-Guides Articles published on article directories Guest blog posts Your own blog posts Articles published on industry-related websites Articles published on content sites like Examiner.com, Ask.com, Demand Media, etc. Anything you publish on Squidoo, HubPages, Blogger, WordPress, Weebly, etc. your newsletters, videos, infographics....
