Forrester: Six Steps To Become A Digital Business

Forrester: Six Steps To Become A Digital Business | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The bumpy road to becoming a digital business is one where big data, social, marketing automation, mobile, cloud computing and the App economy all come together to help companies bring new products, innovations and services to the market and get closer to their targeted customers base.

The C-Suite historically has been guilty of not paying serious attention to digital as a central part of their business. The fact is, many customers, products, and competitors are fundamentally digital. Here are some shocking stats: while 74% of business executives say their company has a digital strategy, only 16% believe that their company has the skills and capabilities to execute on that strategy....

Mass Moments: Kerouac Writes First Novel, March 23, 1948

Mass Moments: Kerouac Writes First Novel, March 23, 1948 | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
On this day ...in 1948, Lowell native Jack Kerouac happily noted in his diary that he had written 2500 words. If he could keep up this pace, he would finish his first novel in a matter of weeks. The highly autobiographical The Town and the City was published in 1950, the same year he began writing On the Road, the novel that earned him the title "Father of the Beat Generation." By the time he died at the age of 47 Jack Kerouac had published 14 books. On the Road is Kerouac's most-read work today; it is widely considered one of the most important and influential American novels of the twentieth century, and Jack Kerouac is celebrated as one of Lowell's favorite sons....

Seth Godin: What Marketers Are Getting Wrong

Seth Godin: What Marketers Are Getting Wrong | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The marketing expert shares how companies can change their tactics to get customers' attention more effectively.

Seth Godin: The Internet is the first medium invented in 100 years that wasn't invented to make advertisers happy. The connection between running ads and making money is broken, probably forever. As soon as you take that out of the equation, everything we understand about marketing, manufacturing, distribution--it all goes away. The new era of modern marketing is about the connection economy, it's about trust, it's about awareness, it's about the fact that attention is worth way more than it used to be. Attention doesn't come in nice little bundles anymore.....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

16 Humiliating and Hilarious Food and Drink Product Fails

16 Humiliating and Hilarious Food and Drink Product Fails | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

From purple ketchup to baby food for adults, these brand extensions were nothing short of miserable failures.

Brand extensions, or when a company rolls out a new product that’s still connected to their core brand, are a mainstay of the food product industry. Most are well-thought-out, field tested, and happen to make a lot of sense: Oscar Mayer’s known for its lunch meat, so why not buy little rounds of their turkey, with cheese, crackers, a drink, and dessert, all packaged up in a tidy box? Lunchables were a hit when they were rolled out in 1988 for that very reason: it made sense, and parents trusted that the brand would be able to provide a decent, complete lunch for their kid.

However, while the brand extensions we’ll be taking a look at today might have made sense to some exhausted brand development executive somewhere, they certainly weren't hits with the general public....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This belongs in the "What were they thinking?" marketing file. Enjoy!

Homeless Man Runs International Business From His Car

Homeless Man Runs International Business From His Car | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

OMooch has been living out of his car since the autumn of 2010. He has a full-time security job and a gym membership at a 24 hour fitness club. He uses public Wi-fi to work on client’s projects and he says he’s never “…been happier or more successful…” in his life. Mooch is homeless.

Mooch, obviously, is not his real name. Neither is it a derogatory term placed on him by society. It is a street moniker he chose himself. Some people say that Mooch is homeless by choice. That’s a statement that upsets him because he feels it labels his situation. When he couldn’t pay his rent at his apartment in California, Mooch moved in with his dad. Originally, the agreement was that Mooch would live with his father rent-free. Mooch would just have to buy his own groceries.....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

A strange story if true but would you want to be buying from a business using open access wifi? Also the reporter fails to determine how much income the man actually makes.
