When Good People Share Bad Things: The Basics of Social Media Verification | Mediashift

When Good People Share Bad Things: The Basics of Social Media Verification | Mediashift | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The communal and rapid-fire nature of many social media platforms creates the potential for errors and falsehoods – an emerging practice in conflict-related propaganda – to go viral.

“The next big thing is not attention; the next big thing is trust,” Eric Scherer, the director of future media at France Television, told the International Journalism Festival in Perugia in May. If trust is the most important factor in developing relationships between audiences and news producers, verifying material that comes from social media takes on even greater importance as a way to ensure the credibility and reliability of journalists and their content.

Newspapers, in particular, have built up trusted brands and relationships with their communities over decades, if not over hundreds of years. Part of that trust flows from people knowing that what they see and read is credible information that has gone through a verification process....

What's the Real Value of Mobile?

What's the Real Value of Mobile? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Establishing proper attribution for mobile’s role in influencing and driving offline conversions is a challenge for the brick-and-mortar retail marketplace.

This is often due to online forms of measurement such as click-throughs being used as the primary way to also measure mobile conversions, which are often invalid or unreliable and result in a significant attribution gap.

Driving this point home, a recent study by Deloitte about digital’s influence on in-store sales showed that consumers using digital tools before and during their in-store shopping experiences – most often on smartphones – convert at a 40 percent higher rate than those who don’t engage with digital....

Pop the Cork: Unleashing Pinterest's Marketing Potential

Pop the Cork: Unleashing Pinterest's Marketing Potential | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Within the last five years, Pinterest has truly made its mark on consumers across the country. Twenty-one percent of U.S. online adults visit Pinterest at least monthly--more than both Instagram (16 percent) and Google+ (16 percent)--making it the third most popular social network after Facebook (70 percent) and Twitter (22 percent).

Yet, despite its rising popularity, marketers find little value from branded boards, which clearly indicates room for growth. Overall, marketing leaders remain confused, as few comprehend how to leverage Pinterest in ways that will promote proactive marketing behaviors.

XForrester notes that only 56 percent of leading brands have created Pinterest boards. Those that have established their presence, however, neglect to post regularly, collect few followers, and see little engagement. Brands recognize Pinterest's potential, but fail to execute strategies that drive results, as the social network's ads currently offer limited targeting and effectiveness....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Pinterest has potential but lacks proper execution according to Forrester.

How Jesus and His Marketing Team Came Up With the Craziest Ad Stunt in History

How Jesus and His Marketing Team Came Up With the Craziest Ad Stunt in History | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Jesus Christ pulled off some pretty impressive brand stunts in his day: turning water into wine; healing the blind; feeding the multitude with the loaves and fishes. But when it came to one of the biggest stunts of His career, He turned to Montreal's 1one Production—at least, according to this "never-before-seen original footage" of Christ and his marketing team from a couple thousand years ago...

Sources and Tags: Dennis O'Connor's Curating Secrets | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

There's no question that Dennis O'Connor has found much success on Scoop.it. It wasn't all coincidental, though. Dennis shared with us two of his best curation secrets and tricks:

1. Develop multiple sources for your topics
It's important to carefully think through the keywords that you set for your topic so that Scoop.it can crawl the web and provide you with interesting and relevant content and inspiration. In addition to taking full advantage of this, Dennis also uses other tools like Twitter, StumbleUpon, and Prismatic to find content to share on Scoop.it. Once he finds the content he wants to share with his audience, he uses Scoop.it as his social media hub to add value to that content and share it everywhere.

2. Tag your posts
Dennis takes a lot of time to tag each of his posts. This allows him, he explained, to assemble publications based upon his tagged topics. When he's using his information on Scoop.it for his E-learning classes, it's easy for him to filter his Scoop.it pages based upon different subjects and easily compile a list of posts and articles on appropriate topics to provide to his students. Something interesting that Dennis does with his tagged articles is to pull them by subject and create "special editions" of his topics on his blog for special classes and events that he is teaching.
