Fox News Anchor Dumbfounded That A Scholar, Who Is Muslim, Had The Audacity To Write A Book About Jesus | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

On Friday, Fox News invited renowned religious scholar and prolific author Reza Aslan onto the air, ostensibly to discuss his latest book on Christianity, ‘Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.’But instead, host Lauren Green launched into an Islamophobic attack on Aslan’s credentials and expressed incredulity that he, a self-professed Muslim, would be able to write about Christianity in a fair and honest way.Throughout the nearly 10 minute interview, Green inaccurately sought to portray Aslan as a religiously-motivated agitator with a hidden agenda out to discredit the very religion that he himself once practiced...

Why Warren Buffett Bought A Newspaper

Why Warren Buffett Bought A Newspaper | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Does this strike you as strange? Everything I read and hear keeps telling me that newspapers are a dying industry. Circulation is way, way down. Everyone's getting information online nowadays. No one (besides me) reads newspapers any more.

So why, in the face of all this negative opinion about print media, would one of the world's most well-known and admired investors invest money in print media? I've never met Warren Buffett or had the opportunity to interview him for this column. I'm not privy to the details of this deal. And for all I know there may be a treasure chest of gold buried underneath the offices of the Press of Atlantic City.

But assuming that's not the case, I can think of a few good reasons why he would do this--reasons that have little to do with the newspaper business, but have a lot to do with business in general....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

What Buffet subscribes to: There's money to be made everywhere. Even in a shrinking industry. Just ask Warren Buffett.

...Turns out that what we have now are a lot of ethics codes and policies, but very little accountability. To make sense of this, here’s the kind of lapse I’m talking about, none of which seems to have been addressed.

1. NBC selectively edited a video and badly misrepresented a guy in a real ugly case. Not clear if they’ve come clean about it yet.Suggestion: News outlets should make the full recording available, perhaps via a discreet rapid-response accountability team.

2. Sometimes a news outlet might broadcast a public figure lying, even when they know it’s a lie. This is what Jon Stewart calls the “CNN leaves it there” problem.Suggestion: Reporters are smart — if they know they’re being lied to, don’t broadcast it. If they smell a lie but they’re not sure, do a good faith fact-check....

Social Media and Storytelling 4: The Growth of Visual Storytelling

Social Media and Storytelling 4: The Growth of Visual Storytelling | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Visual storytelling using photos and video has proven to be the most successful approach to social media marketing.

The images that resonate with an audience and that get shared are images that have an emotive element, images that tell a story.

The image the Obama campaign posted after the President was declared the winner is an excellent example of visual storytelling. It is the most retweeted tweet of all time, receiving over 640,000 retweets. All it took was three words, “Four more years,” and a candid photo. It was a hit is because it was the conclusion of a meta narrative: the whole world was following this story, familiar with it’s plot and characters and this photo was the third act....

10 B2B Content Marketing Best Practices

10 B2B Content Marketing Best Practices | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Learn 10 principles for effective B2B content marketing, including creating content that solves pain points, and repurposing content to save time.

Content marketing does have its drawbacks. It cannot be relied upon to create a direct cause-and-effect; i.e. running a blog piece will usually not result in a direct sale. It is also very difficult to measure the results; content marketing is somewhat like public relations in this respect. However, it is not a “warm fuzzy,” either. Any marketing program should be using a variety of channels to reach customers so that its messages come from multiple different sources.

Content marketing is one of the many tools with which a company can deliver messages to its customers and prospects to “condition” them to purchase...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

These best practices will help you up your content marketing game.

Good to know and reinforces what is a good practice. Content is the number one most powerful tool you have. Optimize, reshape, post and more importantly get support from your org to proliferate it. One person or team can't do it all to win. Cross departmental engagement is key.

Statistical Proof Is Piling Up That Apple's Ads Are Failing

Statistical Proof Is Piling Up That Apple's Ads Are Failing | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Apple's new ads are failing.

Here are the 10 most effective ads of Q2 2013, according to Ace Metrix, a company that measures audience responses to commercials. The No.1 spot was by AT&T, advertising a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which can survive being dunked in a fishbowl. Samsung's own ad for the GS4 came in at No.8

Apple wasn't on the list...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The new Apple advertising sucks especially in comparison with major competitor Samsung. In my view, their ads totally forgot about their core high tech, gadget-fascinated, cult followers. People buy Apple because of the design and features and these are nowhere to be seen in the new "corporate" ads.

On top of the shifts in time spent with media and the fragmentation of audience engagement, media companies are also challenged with shifts in revenue. More traditional media companies like newspapers, radio, local TV stations, direct mail, and directories experienced a total decline in revenue ranging from $25 million to $1.7 billion from 2012 to 2013 according to Borrell Associates 2013 Local Advertising Outlook.

Mobile marketers must reach for the stars

Mobile marketers must reach for the stars | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The success of mobile as an advertising medium depends on shifting people’s perceptions about what advertising looks like....

According to new research, the performance of the Mobile Rising Stars is the strongest evidence that creative ad formats far outshine traditional banner advertising.

The study compared the same advertising creative from cookie manufacturer OREO, displayed in both traditional banner and the six new Mobile Rising Stars formats such as the “Slider” and the “Film Strip”,The study compared the ad interaction and brand uplift of static banners with Mobile Rising Star formats, which provide a mix of in-content, expandable, pushdown and overlay advertising, all incorporating rich media functions.

The standout finding from the research, for me, concerned brand recall: almost every user (98%) who viewed a Mobile Rising Star ad recalled the name of the brand advertised – almost a fifth more than those who viewed the standard mobile banner ad.Furthermore, those who interacted with a Rising Star ad were 23% more likely to recall the brand messaging than those who viewed a traditional static banner. This is powerful evidence that consumers want to be able to control whether or not they initiate and interact with ads....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

These new formats for mobile ads out perform traditional banner ads significantly. Valuable information for marketers.

ModCloth Hits $100 Million In Revenue, Gives Social All The Credit

ModCloth Hits $100 Million In Revenue, Gives Social All The Credit | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The 'love' button may be the most-clicked on ModCloth's platform. But with $100 M in 2012 revenue, 'checkout' is a close second....

“The ‘love’ button is the most used button on our site,” ModCloth CEO Eric Koger told me this June on a visit to the East Coast from the company’s San Francisco HQ. Tuesday’s announcement that the company he founded back in 2002 with wife Susan Gregg Korger has reached $100 million in 2012 revenue makes another thing clear: the check-out button is closing in on ‘Like’ for number one.

ModCloth’s commitment to a mobile-first, unabashedly social strategy is credited with getting them to the $100 million mark according to today’s press release. According to the founders nearly a third of their traffic is same-day repeat traffic, meaning they’ve visited the site more than once a day as a result of a roll-out of a slew of social features over the past 12 months. Among them: a virtual buyer program that allows users to vote samples into production and a style gallery of user-submitted photos that’s turned the e-commerce platform into its own internal social network. Since its launch last year more than 6,000 outfit photos have been shared through the site....
