Who Has the Most Fake Twitter Followers? | TheBlaze.com | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

There are fakers among us, at least on Twitter. There are fakers among us, at least on Twitter. And although it’s not new news that some Twitter followers are not real, it’s interesting none the less to take a look at the breakdown every once in a while of notable people who might not be as popular as they seem.

Thanks to the tool “Fakers” by Status People, it’s easy to look up the percentage of faker, inactive and good accounts among the followers of any person’s Twitter base.

You might remember when we reported nearly a year ago that 70 percent of President Barack Obama’s followers at the time were fake. It looks like he’s lowered that number a bit but still more than half are considered fake, according to Status People’s tool....

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter | {grow}

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter | {grow} | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

"What if I told you that you could become an industry “thought leader” without ever writing a blog post. Or, that you could achieve Twitter stardom without personally sending a single tweet.I didn’t believe it either, but some people are apparently doing it. Maybe even some people you follow. And you may never guess how they’re doing it.

Ghost Tweeting is one of a number of companies that have emerged to outsource the writing and distribution of all your blogs, tweets, and posts. They will even handle all the social media engagement for you. “All the benefits, none of the work,” reads the tagline on their website....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The challenge of "ghost" social services like this is to do it transparently and ethically. It's definitely not "authentic. I've advised many clients on strategies and helped some move forward with team tweeting but always transparently. I'll be curious to hear how others think about this practice.

Thanks for your comment Malek. I think the days of "ghost" writing on social media are limited without open and honest disclosure and transparency. Nothing wrong with teams tweeting but many, including high profile personalities, authors, politicians and many others will resist. When the you know what hits the fan, that's when the trouble starts. Of course, when the intern screws up, you can always claim you were hacked LOL.
malek's comment, August 7, 2013 4:37 PM
We first had fake accounts, then fake fans and now...? if there's a will, there's always a shortcut.......!!
Mike Ellsworth's curator insight, August 8, 2013 10:46 AM

As others have noted, this approach is not only not authentic, it's borderline unethical. But how does it really differ from hiring consultants to design and write marketing material for your business?

What do you think of this technique? Comment below.

Twitter boosts author credibility with web content links

Twitter boosts author credibility with web content links | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

... Twitter users will know their social media content is making a stir when they see links at the bottom of their Tweets, showing which news outlets have embedded their words in web content. This practice was spotted in a recent test by Search Engine Watch.

The study found Twitter is displaying links to websites directly in Tweets. This could be in an attempt to make good on Twitter’s promise to “cut through all the noise on Twitter.”The social network has not made an official announcement about the feature. However, if links roll out for all users, marketers might find it’s easier for their branded content to gain traction on the web because it has more visibility when shared on popular web publications....

Stay tuned: Twitter appears to support the push for content writing authorship by displaying links to news articles in Tweets....

Twitter scores new tweets-per-second record with 143,000 peak

Twitter scores new tweets-per-second record with 143,000 peak | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Twitter‘s tweets-per-second numbers are usually fairly stable, with spikes happening here and there to varying degrees depending on what is trending and happening in the real world. On August 3, however, it had an unusually high per-second tweet peak – so high, in fact, that it set a new record for the social network. Now Twitter has posed the details on what happened complete with some bragging about its user experience.

The flood of tweets originated from Japan during a showing of Castle in the Sky, with viewers so enthused about what they were watching that tweets reached a sort of rapid crescendo, peaking out at 143,199 in a single second. This is in contrast to the average per-second rate the microblogging website sees of 5,700....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Reliability achieved? One concern about Twitter in the past was its reliability. This made crisis managers reluctant to depend on it without a backup. The micro-blogging service may have reached a reliability high and that's good news.
