Why Snapchat Will Be Great for B2B Companies

Why Snapchat Will Be Great for B2B Companies | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

I don’t understand how people don’t see the obvious, common trend of what happens to popular social networks like Snapchat.

They don’t see that these platforms start off young, start off consumer based, start in a niche, and then go mainstream. It baffles me that people don’t understand that when an app hits 100 million active users, it’s gone mainstream. And what does that mean? It means that the platform can start to mature and start getting deeper into the business world. That’s because once you have the attention of the 35 to 65 year old world, you now have the potential to cross over into the B2B world.

I always like to say “Behind every B is a C.” What that means is, behind every business there is a human that is making the decisions. If you’re selling a phone system or a SaaS product to a big corporation, a human being is still making that decision. If you’re able to make content on a platform around interests in your specific industry, you’ve put yourself in a position to do B2B business....

LinkedIn Mobile: What Marketers Need to Know : Social Media Examiner

LinkedIn Mobile: What Marketers Need to Know : Social Media Examiner | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Viveka shares that the newest LinkedIn app, the LinkedIn Mobile App is actually an update of the earlier app, but that there are a lot of other apps within LinkedIn people might not know about, such as the Job Search app.

There are also the apps that came with companies purchased by LinkedIn, such as SlideShare and Connected, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. (Note: After this recording, LinkedIn announced they were retiring the Connected App on March 21, 2016.)In addition, there are tools like the Recruiter app, Sales Navigator, Lookup and Elevate which are associated with LinkedIn’s premium accounts. Then there’s LinkedIn’s news reader, Pulse, and the new Groups app.

Although all of LinkedIn apps are available to iOS users, only some are available on Android, and Viveka reminds listeners that not all of the apps are free.  For example, Elevate is a combination CRM, content management, content curation tool priced for medium to large companies....

Types of Branded Content: A Guide to 11 Popular Formats

Types of Branded Content: A Guide to 11 Popular Formats | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The effectiveness ratings of branded content vary widely (see below). Interestingly, infographics is the tactic that had the greatest increase in usage (from 51% last year to 62% this year) for B2B marketers. Equally interesting, in the B2C spectrum, the use of blogging declined from 72% to 67% in 2015.

Determining the kinds of branded content your brand should create can be perplexing. Contently’s Sam Slaughter suggests you begin by considering:

- Theme

- Length

- Volume

- Format...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

With most companies pursuing content marketing more voraciously than ever, it's time to examine which types of branded content make sense for your company.

Four theories on the declining trust in Canadian social media

Four theories on the declining trust in Canadian social media | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending my seventh Edelman Trust Barometer launch event in Toronto. This year’s results are some of the most interesting I’ve seen, highlighting a disparity in trust amongst what we call the “informed” public and the mass population, and the ongoing failure of businesses to live up to the expectations that people have of them when it comes to societal good (you can see the full results on SlideShare).

One of the interesting notes in this year’s Canadian Trust Barometer results was that trust in social media has fallen over the last year. In fact, social media was the only one of the five media types we examined to experience a decline in trust....

Interesting to note the decline in trust of social media.

We reached the point where we were growing an email list bigger and bigger and bigger with no real end game in sight.

What did we plan to do with all these email addresses once we had them?

Good question.

We didn’t have an answer, so we stopped trying to add more.

We had lots of different ideas, and people have been so gracious to share their thoughts on what we could be doing (I’d love to hear from you in the comments, too, if anything comes to mind).

Here’re a few suggestions we thought over...

DataDriven Marketing Economy Tops 200 Billion

DataDriven Marketing Economy Tops 200 Billion | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Two years ago, for the first time, the Direct Marketing Association put a number—$156 billion—on what it called the data-driven marketing economy (DDME) in the United States. Yesterday it released a follow-up report showing that data isn't just driving, it's speeding. It clocked in at $202 billion in 2014, a two-year increase of 35%, and it employed nearly a million people—650,000 more than it did in 2012.“

All of marketing, we estimate, is about $1.3 trillion a year in the U.S., so that makes data-driven marketing a little under 20% of the total," said Harvard Business School professor John Deighton, who directed the study for DMA with Peter Johnson, principal of mLightenment Economic Impact Research....

5 Critical things you need to know about Periscope now | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

This month Twitter started autoplaying Periscopestreams within its feed. While some marketers had previously been able to overlook the importance of livestreaming apps like Periscope, any brand with a strong Twitter presence is scurrying to catch up … As am I!

At the beginning of the week I had less than 10,000 “hearts” on Periscope, while popular people and brands tend to have more than a million.

So in anticipation of writing a best practices article for brands approaching Periscope, I interviewed Geoff Golberg. Geoff is one of the most famous livestreamers, with a following on Meerkat, Periscope, and Blab of over 40,000 people. On Periscope, Geoff has 6.3 million hearts.

Here are some key tips for using Periscope in combination with Twitter....

Now, when Twitter shows you your engagement rate, they include all engagements: Link Clicks, Retweets, Favorites, and Replies. However, that figure can be misleading, as even a few engagements on a tweet that didn’t get many impressions can show a higher than average engagement rate.

I like to focus on retweets, since these help you increase your overall reach. More people sharing your tweets means more eyes on your content, which in turn offers the potential for even greater engagement.

I found some commonalities among my most popular posts. Here are a few Twitter content tips to get more retweets based on my most shared tweets....

Here is what I like about this article by Ernesto Olivares that others don't go into: it's less about structure and tools and more about YOU and essential ways to create emotional engagement. Like:

  1. Create context
  2. Be personal and true
  3. Reveal hidden things
  4. Focus

There's lots more and it's all good. One point he forgot to make regarding point #5 Show Contrast & Conflict is that contrast helps build and dramatize the conflict. So remember that.

Enjoy magnifying your visual storytelling skills with this piece and have a happy weekend!

The Sharing Age

The Sharing Age | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Imagine the possibilities of a world in which we are able to make trusted connections between a near-infinite number of people. A world in which transaction costs, time and distance are reduced to almost nil. A world that is instantly available from a smartphone, anywhere, anytime.

This global revolution, enabled by databases, search engines and connectivity, has begun. It’s allowing mankind to break free from the limits of the past. We start doing what we do best: collaborating and sharing, at an unprecedented scale — a significant untapped potential for sharing is unlocked on a whole new level, creating value for all.

Thanks to platforms that connect peers and enable the creation of interpersonal online trust, individuals are suddenly empowered to share goods, knowledge, money, skills, network, content, etc. They regain their ability to contribute more directly to society and the economy, but on a global scale, redefining relationships between economic and social actors along the way.

We are at the dawn of a new era, the sharing age, which impacts all dimensions of our relationships with others....

Why People Choose to Shop—or Not to Shop—on Their Phones

Why People Choose to Shop—or Not to Shop—on Their Phones | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Mobile shopping isn't going anywhere this year.

More than 60 percent of omnichannel shoppers said they plan to start making purchases using mobile devices or will do so even more in the upcoming year, according to a new study released today by Facebook. (Already, 45 percent of all shopping includes some form of mobile interaction including doing research, comparing prices or making purchases. Among millennials, that number jumps to 57 percent.)

Facebook IQ commissioned GfK to study 2,400 adults who had used mobile phones, tablets, desktops or laptops to research or buy items online in the past three months. Purchasing categories included clothing, consumer electronics, home appliances, home goods and beauty.

The study also looked at why those shopping on mobile devices chose to use them. Fifty-six percent said it was because they already happened to be on a device, while 55 percent pointed to the convenience it afforded....
