Content Marketing for SEO | Content Strategy Hub | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Content marketing is on a meteoric rise in popularity. But how do you apply content marketing for SEO? Based on search trends, content marketing is on an exponential rise. There are many good reasons for its rise in popularity. But one of the biggest is the application of content marketing for SEO. The importance of SEO is pretty clear. Studies have shown that traffic from organic search results is generally more profitable than traffic from many other sources (like paid advertising). This makes sense because a person who lands on a page based on an organic search result is actively seeking an answer, solution and/or products. And an organic result is more “trustworthy” than a paid placement....

This: Why Atlantic Media is funding a social platform for sharing links, one at a time | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Andrew Golis wanted to build a network for sharing stories that would provide relief from our contemporary content cascade.

By now, you might have heard that Atlantic Media’s Andrew Golis is incubating a small social network inside the company. Golis came to Atlantic Media as entrepreneur-in-residence a little over a year ago, eventually taking over The Wire as general manager in January. But for the last two months, he’s been working on This, a social network that only lets users share a single link a day. (For more on that name, check out Kyle Chayka’s “A History of This^, #This, and This.” And though it officially uses a period at the end of its name — This. — come on.)

So far, This has been invitation-only, open to a slowly growing handful of media types. But last week, Golis decided to tell the wider public a little aboutthe project:...

Last Call | Clay Shirky in Medium

Last Call | Clay Shirky in Medium | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

...When the press writes about the current dislocations, they must insist that no one knows what will happen. This pattern shows up whenever the media covers itself. When the Tribune Company recently got rid of their newspapers, the New York Times ran the story under a headline “The Tribune Company’s publishing unit is being spun off, as the future of print remains unclear.”

The future of print remains what? Try to imagine a world where the future of print is unclear: Maybe 25 year olds will start demanding news from yesterday, delivered in an unshareable format once a day. Perhaps advertisers will decide “Click to buy” is for wimps. Mobile phones: could be a fad. After all, anything could happen with print. Hard to tell, really....

Good Descriptions Rate More Than Good Reviews

Good Descriptions Rate More Than Good Reviews | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Price still rules as an online purchase influencer, but basic brand assets should not be ignored in online product presentations.

Clear, concise, and pertinent product descriptions make online shoppers press the “Buy” button more often than do favorable reviews. In fact, only price topped persuasive product copy as a purchase influencer, according to a survey of 500 consumers conducted by Markettree for HookLogic.

Price remains king, with 84% of consumers designating it as one of the top three factors that cause them to buy. Sixty-three percent named product descriptions, and 49% listed reviews. Bringing up the rear were videos, named by only 12%. Fundamental brand assets like product names, images, and features, maintains HookLogic's survey report, are the bottom-of-the-funnel items most likely to turn browsers into buyers....

It seems like everyone has something controversial to say about sponsored content these days, from John Oliver on HBO to even us here at Contently.Much of that controversy centers around two key questions: Is brand-backed content on publisher sites labeled well enough? When it comes to content, your impeccably crafted brand guidelines aren’t good enough anymore | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

... While there may indeed be a ‘torrent’ or ‘flood’ or ‘wave’ of rubbish content swamping our digital lives, to be honest a lot of the stuff I come across is pretty good.

By which I mean that it’s simply useful, informative or entertaining. From both B2B and B2C brands. Yes, advertorials can be a bit dull but there is an equally large wave of excellent content being produced by brands.

So why are so many brands still so nervous about it? One of the biggest problems is a lack of confidence. Not a lack of confidence about content marketing, that much is obvious, but a lack of confidence in who they are, what their brand stands for, what their place in the world is and their view on it....

The growing pay gap between journalism and public relations | Pew Research Center | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

After years of grim news for the news industry marked by seemingly endless rounds of staff cutbacks, it’s not unusual for those thinking about a career in journalism or veterans trying to find a new job to look at options in related fields. One field outpacing journalism both in sheer numbers and in salary growth is public relations.

The salary gap between public relations specialists and news reporters has widened over the past decade – to almost $20,000 a year, according to 2013 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data analyzed by the Pew Research Center. At the same time, the public relations field has expanded to a degree that these specialists now outnumber reporters by nearly 5 to 1 (BLS data include part-time and full-time employees, but not self-employed.)...
