Don't Only Measure Your Brand Success With Direct ROI Indicators | Social Media Today

Don't Only Measure Your Brand Success With Direct ROI Indicators | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

We've all read that social-media ROI is weaker than other traditional marketing channels. Recently, social media came under fire again in an articles in which Unilever aired their concerns in Marketing Magazine.

Unilever marketing teams are questioning the logic of shifting big budgets to social media, when the equivalent spent on in-store promotions can deliver an ROI up to 50% higher. This statement suggests a lot about the mindset of some marketers who work for big companies.

Social media has been developing for about a decade, but these marketers still miss the point. Consumers are no longer passive targets that you can simply feed with coupons and vouchers. People want their purchases to be inspired by stories that matter. And they're even ready to trust brands to tell their stories, if brands are sincere. They want to know how a brand is trying to change the world. Naive? Maybe. But, maybe not....

Good insight into social media ROI...

From explainers to sounds that make you go “Whoa!”: 4 types of audio that people share | Nieman Lab | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

How can public radio make audio that breaks big on social media? A NPR experiment identified what makes a piece of audio go viral.

Editor’s note: Public radio produces a lot of audio — but it doesn’t always get the attention on sharing platforms that it might deserve. Our friends at NPR Digital Services want to fix that, which has led to a series of experiments. Here, NPR’s Eric Athas shares some of what they’ve found.

Chances are you’ll listen to this audio — or at least 56 percent of you will.

That’s what our experiments in making audio more sharable have shown so far. You’re more likely to listen and share interesting sound if it’s packaged with a good headline and an image — and recently we’ve discovered the type of audio matters, too....

.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

What makes audio go viral? Learn about the four types of audio files most shared on NPR in a recent experiment: audio, explainers, WHOA sounds, storytellers and snappy reviews.

Why #H2H Broke Twitter

Why #H2H Broke Twitter | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

A year ago Bryan Kramer coined the term “There is no more B2B or B2C. It’s H2H: Human to Human” and accompanied it with the now infamous #H2H hashtag. It was truly amazing to see how this very simple concept caught on like wildfire. In fact H2H was just named as the business term most likely to “catch on” in 2015 so move over “disruption”!

The revolutionary nature of this term is in its simplicity and relatability. It’s so easy to get caught up in Corporate-Speak where everyone becomes a labeled statistic or grouped into acronyms. Before long your strategy can begin to look like a nighmarish algebra problem.ROI of B2C= X per month where C= GenZ and B=Electronics Products. Solve for X...

The Agile Monks's curator insight, January 25, 3:43 PM

First off H2H - yes, it catching on would be nice - as was is really sad is that we have lost the concept of a HUMAN BEING for so long, that it has been a downfall for many industries. CRM - what relationship?  If all you are doing is using it to SELL MORE. Customer Service and Support and Tech Support - where is the HUMAN factor in so much of what companies are doing to systematize and "technofy", rather than realizing that the Service and Support comes from the HUMAN being - both the Human in the Customer and the Human in the Service Provider. We need to remember that the HUMAN SPIRIT and it's desire to make a difference, to be different, and to serve a purpose, will always trump the business and the consumerism.  Let us be US and let US be the humanity and the love and the divine spark that exists in each of US.  We can then be the people we hopefully want and desire to be. Serve other first and foremost, and ultimately you shall be served.  Long live the HUMAN. :)

What Will Characterize The Mobile Ecosystem In 2015 ? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Recently (in 2014) Deloitte carried out a survey which attempted to do exactly that. The survey was administered in the USA to 2,000 respondents. The findings were very interesting, particularly with regard to the obsession that people apparently have with their devices. Indeed, the survey found that:

-  “Nearly 40% look at their phone within a mere five minutes of waking up.

-  Nearly 75% check their device within 30 minutes and almost 90% of consumers report waiting no more than an hour to look at their smartphone.”

Not only that, but the US consumers were also asked how many times a day they check their phones. Almost 10% were found to do this in excess of 100 times a day, and 25% check it more than 50 times a day. Three percent of the respondents said that they check their phone more than 200 times a day. All of this shows the very important role that mobile is playing in daily lives, and the importance of companies finding ways to leverage this....

Oh God, People (and #MTV) Are Still #Talking #About #Millennials | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Above: some young people in a car, yesterday.

No wonder we're the most narcissistic, self-entitled generation ever: people just won't stop talking about #millennials.

Here's the latest new heap of s*** that pokes and prods at the hapless, buried-in-sane #GenY #millennials who are so diverse, yet so easy to speak for—a new study from perpetually hip MTV, now the Voice Of Two Generations, saying that #millennials love driving and cars and "see car ownership as a way to craft their unique adult identity," which was an actual sentence spoken by an actual sentient human being with actual free will who makes more actual money than any #millennial ever will.

"The study said 82 percent of #millennials find buying or leasing a new car 'exciting,'" in the same way they find paying for coffee with a Vine of a Macklemore concert exciting. It goes on. "The study found 87 percent of #millennials said they enjoyed customizing things to make them unique.

The study found 72 percent would rather give up texting for a week than surrender their cars. The study found 72 percent of #millennials enjoy the smell of their own farts. The study found 102 percent of #millennials think Edward Snowden is a slang word for a new type of ecstasy. What is OmniChannel?

What is OmniChannel? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

What is OmniChannel?

Jeff Domansky's insight:

In marketing and technology you often know that something is still new when you can’t find one unanimous way to spell it. Ecommerce, eCommerce, e-commerce – remember those days? We now find Omni-channel, omnichannel and omni channel across the web, each attached to prestigious brand and pundit thinking. Instead of arguing about the correct spelling, we just see it an indicator of something new and yet to be decided by the masses.

By no means is the concept under-noted or fledgling. And, as with most things that are new, there are still developing ideas.Omni comes from the word Omnis which can mean all or universal. This is in comparison to other categories out there, like “multichannel”, from the Latin word Multus, meaning multiple or many and from crosschannel, derived from the Latin word Crux, meaning to go across. The way that many are explaining omnichannel today is: ‘cross channel being done well’.

Examples are often that the mobile app should match the responsive design of the website which should thematically reflect the look and feel inside the store. We’d argue that doing cross channel well with the user in mind, is not worthy (nor useful) enough to  deserve a new category. Instead, we hold the belief that Omnichannel is something new and notable, even revolutionary, not just a marginal evolution of existing thinking....
