In case you didn’t notice, Hollywood’s biggest studios are suffering from the same problem as television networks: splintering audiences that require more highly targeted PR and marketing campaigns. A couple of facts: attendance rates for middle-aged consumers are stable while members of the all-important teenage demographic are going to see fewer movies now than they have at any point in the past.

 

More and more Hollywood communications pros, led by marketing agencies like Capstone Global Marketing, are turning to hard data in order to figure out the best ways to promote their movies. This targeted approach is especially relevant in an era that relies on audience engagement and social media sharing by real-world fans who don’t have any personal investment in the success of individual titles or studios at large....

The global PR industry grew by 7% in 2014, with currency volatility helping to soften another positive year for PR firms around the world, according to the 2015 World PR Report.

The 2015 World PR Report, produced by the Holmes Report and ICCO, again provides the clearest picture available of the global PR industry, based on submissions from more than 400 PR firms across the world.

The research reveals that, for the first time, the Top 250 PR firms in the world cracked the $10m barrier in terms of fee income last year, reporting $10.4bn compared to $9.7bn in 2013....

An analysis found that 80 percent of the CEOs of the world’s largest 50 companies are engaged online and on social media, more than double of what the same study found in 2010.

The findings are interesting because not long ago being social was once considered too risky, the article said. CEOs feared that saying the wrong thing online would ignite a firestorm of antagonists, dissatisfied customers, and disgruntled employees, who could threaten the company’s reputation. Now, having a digital strategy integrated across multiple channels is the new mandate to neutralize criticism. It’s become more important to transparently tell the company’s story and join the conversation.

Research  shows that five significant trends over the past five years have contributed to CEOs’ increased sociability....

If you were asked to name the top thought leaders in marketing today–the 10 marketers you’d definitely advise others to follow on social media–how would you proceed?

You’d probably start by looking at those you’re connected with on the major social networks, then do some additional research. Perhaps you’d look at existing “top” lists from other sites. You’d develop a “long list” of worthy experts, then gradually narrow it down based on followers, level of engagement, quality of posts, and other factors. You’d carefully develop your final list, possibly using a method like pairwise ranking.

But—what if you had to answer on the spot? What if you had to respond immediately, or within just a few minutes? You’d forget some important names, of course, but your answers would reveal those you keep top of mind.

Consumer adoption of streaming video services is surging, according to a new report by Juniper Research out this morning, which finds that subscriber numbers for services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video will grow from 92.1 million in 2014 to 333.2 million global subscriptions by 2019.


Connected TVs and streaming media devices like Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Chromecast will be driving this adoption, as will connected game consoles and set-top boxes that provide streaming video as pre-loaded services....


In contrast, the newer streaming media devices are making watching over-the-top services more accessible on the big screen of the living room TV. They not only simplify the process of getting connected, but they’re also often sold at price points so low – Chromecast is $35 and the Fire TV Stick is $39, for example – that buying a streaming media stick is almost a no-brainer for many consumers....
