With so many companies using Instagram, and many people on the platform interacting with them, there was a desire from our business community to do more. So we listened. And, after hundreds of interviews with businesses, three key needs became clear—stand out, get insights and find new customers.

First, businesses want the ability to stand out on Instagram. Many companies, including a furniture store in San Francisco, shared that it would be easier for customers to email questions because comments are hard to track and take time to sift through. Second, businesses want a simple way to get insights. A retailer in Austin explained that many analytics are overwhelming and hard to apply to its marketing. And third, businesses want to reach even more customers. A do-it-yourself craft shop in New York City mentioned it’s always looking for quick ways to fill seats in class.

With these insights in mind, we set out to make Instagram work even better for businesses. So today, we’re excited to unveil our new Instagram Business Tools....

Snapchat uncovers Discover

Snapchat combines the best of social networks, magazines, and television in a redesign of its omni-entertainment app.

You’ll now see image and headline previews of the content inside Discover channels and Live stories on the Stories page, instead of just logos for the publishers or events they capture. The Discover page now features a Pinterest-style mason grid of tiles, while the Stories page now combines the two rows of static Discover channels and Live Stories into one scrollable row of non-friend content.

Also, instead of having to dig your favorite Discover channels out of the whole list, you can now tap-and-hold to subscribe to them so they always appear amongst the Recent Stories from accounts you’ve added, unless you later unsubscribe. This gives publishers like Tastemade and IGN an extra call to action to bake into their Discover channels and marketing.

The goal here is to make professionally-made and community-curated content just as attractive as what friends share on the app. Previously, Discover channels felt bolted on to the experience, and can seem overly polished compared to Stories from friends that are  fascinating despite flaws. VentureBeat and Recode previously reported that changes to the Discover page were coming....

Back in 2004, media and TV personality Martha Stewart was sentenced to five months in jail for obstructing a federal securities investigation.


To pass the time during her incarceration, Stewart did what she does best: cooking and crafts.


Speaking at a Daily Mail brunch session at the Cannes Lions advertising festival on Thursday, Stewart said the food inside was around three years past its expiry date.


"That's why I made jam out of the crab apples on the trees," she added.


Aside from making jam, Stewart also turned her hand to ceramics. As a child she'd go to ceramic classes at the weekend, so she quickly signed up to a ceramics class in prison too, at a place called Alderson....

She made an entire nativity scene that she brings out each Christmas. She also obstructed justice. No sympathy despite the ceramics and crabapple jam.

Man Secretly Runs Horrifying Full-Page Newspaper Ad Seeking Wife for 48-Year-Old Son | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Father's Day was very likely a tense affair for Salt Lake City resident Baron Brooks, whose dad Arthur made a full-page, $900 personals newspaper ad for him without his permission. Not only that, but the ad makes Baron sound like a total jerk, too.


The ad, which appeared in an Idaho paper for reasons we'll get to in a moment, is written from Baron's point of view and states that he is looking for a wife who fits very specific criteria. Specifically, the ad calls for a woman "between the ages of 34-38," which is 10 years younger than Baron, and "height and weight proportional," which is basically like saying "no fat chicks."


The ad also expresses a preference for politically conservative women ("If you voted for Obama or plan to vote for Hillary you are not for me") who are "willing and able to have children as soon as possible," which is why Baron's dad put the ad in an Idaho paper; that state is pretty safely red for the time being.


Baron, as one might imagine, is totally mortified by his dad's machinations, especially now that they've gone viral and will ironically make it harder for him to find a soulmate, since most people think he wrote the ad himself....

Cannes Lions 2016 has its first truly cringeworthy moment, in the form of a party invitation seeking "attractive females and models only."


The email went out to a number of festival participants who planned to attend The Wednesday Party, an event sponsored by digital agency VaynerMedia and media company Thrillist Media Group with a musical performance by Wyclef Jean.


UPDATE: Thrillist founder and CEO Ben Lerer responded to the controversy via an internal staff email that appears in part at the bottom of this story.


A female agency executive tells Adweek that she and two female colleagues received the email while having lunch in Cannes on Tuesday. One of them forwarded it to women's advocate and agency veteran Cindy Gallop, who subsequently shared it on Twitter and wrote, "It's 2016, @vaynermedia @thrillist. This is not how you party at @cannes_lions."


The email was sent by events company iGetIn. Its key section reads (emphasis via the sender of the message): "Thank you for your interest in attending!! Please be aware that this specific list is for attractive females and models only."


The note, which was also shared by members of the public Facebook group Cannes for Cannesseurs, then instructs male attendees to "contact the PR departments of the respective sponsors" if they want to get into the party. It requests that women interested in attending send "recent untouched photos and/or your Instagram/Facebook links for you and each of your additional female guest [sic]," adding, "once we have reviewed we will send you specific entry details." ...
