Every Brand Has a Story To Tell | Journalistics | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Every brand has a story to tell, and it’s our job as communicators – as brand journalists – to find those stories and tell them in a way that generates excitement. Back to the toilet example, the product ended up being an innovative new toilet seat that was responsible for my first PR success. The toilet seat was heated and had technology built into it that ate bad smells. It also happened to have a wireless remote control that controlled a built-in warm water washlet – you can use your imagination on that one. Believe it or not, it was one of the hottest tech products of that year – featured in all sorts of mainstream consumer media, including Time magazine. But it was a just a toilet seat… there couldn’t possibly be a story there, right?

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Great reminder for content marketers, er PR pros... I mean brand journalists.

10 Social Media Predictions for 2015 from 10 Social Media CEOs

10 Social Media Predictions for 2015 from 10 Social Media CEOs | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

I began this year by publishing my social media predictions for 2014 focusing on six key trends that I saw (and continue to see) evolving: Employee Advocacy, Google Plus, Paid Social, Content, The Visual, and Mobile Personal.

With the year coming to a close, it’s time to look ahead into what awaits us in 2015 and how we can spend the rest of the year better preparing for it.

Free Technology for Teachers: Share Lists and Search Notes by Color in Google Keep

Free Technology for Teachers: Share Lists and Search Notes by Color in Google Keep | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Last month I wrote about using Google Keep to organize your thoughts. Google Keep is a digital sticky note service that is available as a website, as a Chrome app, and as an Android app.

On Google Keep you can create sticky notes to use as simple text notes, as bookmarks, or as reminders with dates and times. This week Google added the option to share lists on Google Keep. When you share a list you and your collaborators can check-off items as you go through the list. You have always been able to color code notes in Google Keep.

Now you can search notes by color. So if you use one color for to-do lists, another color for personal bookmarks, and a third color for professional bookmarks you will be able to find those notes by searching for the colors associated to them. As before you can still sort notes by dragging and dropping them on your screen....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Here's how to use Google Keep - a cool tool for organizing, archiving and sharing online. Not just for teachers. LOL.

Brands Wasting Time, Money on Facebook, Twitter Forrester Says | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Today market research firm Forrester published a report for brands titled “Social Relationship Strategies That Work.”

So: What works? Not Facebook or Twitter.

The crux of the research suggests that brands are wasting their time, effort, and money on Facebook and Twitter to diminishing returns. A study conducted by the firm from earlier this year found that posts from top brands on Twitter and Facebook reach just 2% of their followers. Engagement is even more measly: A mere 0.07% of followers actually interact with those posts....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Wow! WTH. Stop making Facebook the center of your relationship marketing efforts, says Nate Elliott, VP and principal analyst at Forrester.

Does Your Content Pass the Resharing Test? | @JayBaer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick, the marketing power duo behind Canva‘s social, are releasing a book in early December, entitled The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users. Their goal? To share those social media tips that will be, for the most part, timeless.

Guy, for example, explains his re-share test: “You should post stuff that you believe your followers will find so compelling that they will share it to their followers.” And if this piece of content doesn’t pass the test as something you yourself would re-share, then don’t post it. It’s that simple. This is the biggest mistake, he says, that digital marketers make other than not making enough use of visual content.

Pinterest: The Social Search Goldmine

Pinterest: The Social Search Goldmine | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is shaping up to be a very interesting and very different player. Many of us remember the quick rise in the search results that Flickr experienced a few years ago; however, this one is different.

Not Just Successful In Image Search

First of all, Pinterest is not only winning in image search; it is also winning in blended (regular mixed) search.

The second and even larger differentiator is the fact that Pinterest is all about driving website traffic vs. just posting an image. In most cases, people on Pinterest have a research mindset, and they fully expect when they click on an image containing a product to be brought to a product page.

Oh, did we also mention that it is a highly social asset with a long-term lifespan? Unlike a tweet or a Facebook post, which will be pushed down in the timeline and be seen by nobody after a few days, a pin does not disappear into cyberspace; it will live on for many months after its original creation..../
