January is normally the time where we look back on the last twelve months and decide what we want to improve. Cue promises that we’ll go to the gym more often, quit smoking, learn a new skill or language and so on. However, not only is it difficult to keep up any new changes, but the chances of you reverting back to your old habits increases with every new promise you take on.

 

Therefore, whether it’s for yourself or for your business, a clear plan of action is required if you want to make these changes a reality. It doesn’t matter how ambitious or modest your ambitions are, so long as they’re important to you, that’s what matters. While it can be difficult to get started, all big aims start with small steps so keep these in mind when you’re putting your plan together....

Given the popularity and effectiveness of visual content for marketing, it's no surprise that today's marketers are creating more and more infographics. They're a more enjoyable way of digesting statistics, data sets, and timelines, and they can drive more traffic and engagement than plain text.

Even though there are a lot of good infographics out there, there are still a ton of bad infographics out there, too. You usually know one when you see one: Either it's jam-packed with information, or it hardly shows any useful information at all. Sometimes it's loud with clashing colors; other times, it's plain and boring.

But "knowing it when you see it" doesn't help you prevent from making a bad infographic. Here to dissect what a bad infographic looks like is an infographic from Vertical Measures. Check it out below.

The first company is not proof that social media works. That's not the issue. The issue, of course, is that social media simply "is". It's no different than the focus groups and surveys of twenty years ago. It's both marketing and customer research. It's data. It just "is". You cannot separate social media from the rest of the branding elements of the business. You can't. You cannot prove that social media works, and you cannot remove it from the business. It is not a tactic. It simply "is" the business. And customers are acquired cheaply as a result.


The second company can easily prove that social media doesn't work. They should know. They tried putting some sale messages on Twitter, and nobody responded. The second company is fully confident in their merchandising team. The second company just needs to find marketing channels to communicate the merchandising strategy to the customer. The second company is going "omnichannel". They'll ship-to-store or buy-online-pickup-in-store or get you a discount on your mobile phone when you're in the mall (if the customer ever steps foot in a mall anymore).


Retail is moving in two different directions....

Advanced analysis of social media traffic can provide insights into these and many other consumer trends because it measures not only how many people are mentioning a given topic but also how they feel about it. We call that consumer sentiment, and it is a powerful tool for understanding the full story.


For example, SAP analyzed more than 28 million social media posts during this holiday season, which revealed that while consumers mentioned electronics twice as often as the next highest category, they had mixed reviews – sentiment was only 60%. Perhaps poor reviews, sold-out models, and missed deals disappointed shoppers this year....

I don't know about you, but I love SlideShare -- both as a marketer, and just as a regular person who likes to look at cool presentations.

As a marketer, I love that the platform lets you create and publish interactive, beautiful pieces of content without a ton of design experience. As a person who likes to look at cool presentations, I love that there are tons of great ones to choose from that cover all manner of topics.
That being said, I do have one gripe with SlideShare: With so much content to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out which presentations are actually worth your time.
