How to start your social media year off with a bang | The Next Web

How to start your social media year off with a bang | The Next Web | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

January is normally the time where we look back on the last twelve months and decide what we want to improve. Cue promises that we’ll go to the gym more often, quit smoking, learn a new skill or language and so on. However, not only is it difficult to keep up any new changes, but the chances of you reverting back to your old habits increases with every new promise you take on.

Therefore, whether it’s for yourself or for your business, a clear plan of action is required if you want to make these changes a reality. It doesn’t matter how ambitious or modest your ambitions are, so long as they’re important to you, that’s what matters. While it can be difficult to get started, all big aims start with small steps so keep these in mind when you’re putting your plan together....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Follow these social media suggestions to tune up your social media presence in 2013.

Design With Personality: 25 Awesome Case Studies | Canva | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Whether you’re designing a brand identity for yourself or for another company or product, the process stays the same; albeit one may be more inherent to your nature than the other. Ask yourself, “if this product was a person, who would it be?” Hippie or hipster? Friend or fiend? Wise or wisecracker?

List five traits that characterise the personality of the brand, as well as one or two boundaries – what the brand is not.

For example, it may be sentimental but not soppy; professional but not uptight. These traits and boundaries become a value system that will guide your voice – words, language, and tone – and visuals – colour, typography, and imagery.Want to see how it’s done? Here are 25 awesome case studies of what it means to design with personality....

Slideshare is the digital marketing secret weapon - New research | Jay Baer

Slideshare is the digital marketing secret weapon - New research | Jay Baer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

In my estimation, the reason why more experienced social media marketers gravitate toward Slideshare is that they eventually recognize that social media is about actions, not eyeballs. The “reach” offered by the larger consumer-oriented platforms is seductive, but if only a tiny percentage of your fans are seeing your posts in those venues, is the reach really reliable?

Slideshare’s audience is bigger than you might think, is terrific for lead generation, and is populated by people actively seeking information and resources (not dissimilar from a search engine, in that regard).

And that audience is hungry for information. It’s not uncommon to generate significant views and downloads for Slideshare presentations, including 24,000+ and counting for my presentation on reliable reach....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

if your target is B2B or professionals, don't miss the opportunity to use slide share for impact and ROI.

How To Make Powerful Landing Pages with David Ogilvy

How To Make Powerful Landing Pages with David Ogilvy | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
If Oglivy knew anything, he knew how to make ideas stick. And when it comes to landing pages, you can’t afford for them not to be sticky.

Sticky landing pages have a direct conversion path. The job of a sticky landing page is to get your visitors to stick to it – and not end up on some other page. This is why sticky landing pages are the most effective pages, because they help your visitors stick around until they have clicked your call to action button.

Sticky landing pages have no distractions or detours on them. They get your visitors to trust your product, like your product, and (eventually) buy your product.

Today, we’re going to dig up some of Ogilvy’s most famous advertising quotes, and we’re going to show you how you can create the stickiest landing pages....

5 Content Marketing Rules for Google’s New Algorithm

5 Content Marketing Rules for Google’s New Algorithm | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

On April 21, 2015, Google made a massive update to their SEO algorithm and was clear that they’d be handing out manual penalties to websites that didn’t abide by mobile best practices. Don’t panic just yet—Google doesn’t expect every website to run out and develop and app or otherwise become their “best” mobile ready self. Really, mediocrity is what’s being expected, but that’s still going to be a challenge for the vast majority of websites. Now that experts are saying that the majority of American web surfing will take place on mobile devices by 2017 (and we’re almost there already), Google is simply being proactive in making sure the best websites are still dished up to surfers.

However, the algorithm is a change that’s going to impact all languages of all websites that appear in Google searches. What does this mean for content marketers? It’s time to focus not just on the quality of your online content, but its mobile-ready factor. You might be doing everything “right” from a content perspective, but that doesn’t mean much if almost half of users can’t readily access it. In order to appease Google’s algorithm and avoid a penalty, consider these your new content marketing rules for a very mobile ready world (and marketing campaign):...

But Sirius, to their credit, looked at this again. According to their research, more than 50% of buyers talked to a sales person at the beginning of the buying process. For more complex purchases, the figure increases to two-thirds!

The most impactful “content” according to their research? A sales presentation. Not a video. Not a white paper. Not any of the content we produce as marketers. But a real live presentation from sales....

10 Color Inspiration Secrets Only Designers Know About | Canva

10 Color Inspiration Secrets Only Designers Know About | Canva | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

“Color: what a deep and mysterious language!”

[1] Specific hues can provoke different emotions, associations, and responses that affect how your brand is perceived. Put simply, color choices can make or break a design. In fact, research has shown that color can increase brand recognition (by up to 80%), memory, engagement with a design piece, text comprehension, among many others.

Fortunately, we are far from the times when our color choices were limited to a small batch of natural pigments. Our options are no longer whatever colors minerals, animals, and plants had to offer. Synthetic pigments and the screen have made our lives increasingly easier, while making deciding infinitely more complex.

With such an overwhelming amount of color options, selecting a palette for a design project has become excruciating, to say the least. The Colourlovers community has indexed nearly 8 million user-named colors, while there are over 16 million possible hexadecimal color combinations.
