2013: Measuring The Intangibles of Social Media | Social Media Today

2013: Measuring The Intangibles of Social Media | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Today’s consumers expect more from corporations and institutions in the way of value and quality communications. Consumers have been empowered to conjugate, collaborate, co-create and contribute media to the national dialog about anything, anyone and everything. Suppliers are wrestling to both use and understand this new two way communications channel called social media.   Stuck in the mindset of managing tangible things brands are now trying to measure the results of social media’s intangible evidence of value.

The intangible results that social media can achieve are the cause of an effect (result) rather than the effect itself....

These are just a few of the intangible elements being emphasized in the Social Era. These elements are causing a shift from measurement of tangible results to measurement of intangible results. Intangible results are about understanding and measuring intangible capital to effect tangible results....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

There are some really good ideas about monitoring and measuring "intangible results." Well worth reading.

Over-the-Top Streaming Video Services to Reach 330 Million+ Subscribers By 2019

Over-the-Top Streaming Video Services to Reach 330 Million+ Subscribers By 2019 | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Consumer adoption of streaming video services is surging, according to a new report by Juniper Research out this morning, which finds that subscriber numbers for services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video will grow from 92.1 million in 2014 to 333.2 million global subscriptions by 2019.

Connected TVs and streaming media devices like Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Chromecast will be driving this adoption, as will connected game consoles and set-top boxes that provide streaming video as pre-loaded services....

In contrast, the newer streaming media devices are making watching over-the-top services more accessible on the big screen of the living room TV. They not only simplify the process of getting connected, but they’re also often sold at price points so low – Chromecast is $35 and the Fire TV Stick is $39, for example – that buying a streaming media stick is almost a no-brainer for many consumers....

Engaging with your customers through social media and carrying out research through social media monitoring are further ways to learn and gain insight on your audience. These are not one-off ways to achieve understanding as it is an on-going process that needs to be continually monitored, measured and refined.

As Carolina rightly (and disappointingly) suggests in her feature there are many business owners and brand managers who don’t know their customers and this should become an accepted basic principle for marketing and business success.

CEOs are finally embracing social. What does it mean to you? | Mark Schaefer

CEOs are finally embracing social. What does it mean to you? | Mark Schaefer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

An analysis found that 80 percent of the CEOs of the world’s largest 50 companies are engaged online and on social media, more than double of what the same study found in 2010.

The findings are interesting because not long ago being social was once considered too risky, the article said. CEOs feared that saying the wrong thing online would ignite a firestorm of antagonists, dissatisfied customers, and disgruntled employees, who could threaten the company’s reputation. Now, having a digital strategy integrated across multiple channels is the new mandate to neutralize criticism. It’s become more important to transparently tell the company’s story and join the conversation.

Research  shows that five significant trends over the past five years have contributed to CEOs’ increased sociability....

5 Brands That Rock Reddit (And What You Can Learn From Them) | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

As an incentive for not shilling self-promotional, low-quality spam, reddit users get “karma,” or points for their comments and links that are upvoted. As a result, it’s pretty hard for a company to promote itself on reddit without sparking a huge backlash from the online community.

However, some brands have been savvy enough to promote themselves on reddit without invoking the wrath of the Interwebs. How? By giving audiences good content. Since most of the content on reddit is generated by users rather than brands, it begs the question: How can a company get noticed on the site? Here, we look at how five companies have managed to rule reddit....

10 Top Marketing Thought Leaders in Social Media | B2B Marketing Blog | Webbiquity

10 Top Marketing Thought Leaders in Social Media | B2B Marketing Blog | Webbiquity | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
If you were asked to name the top thought leaders in marketing today–the 10 marketers you’d definitely advise others to follow on social media–how would you proceed?

You’d probably start by looking at those you’re connected with on the major social networks, then do some additional research. Perhaps you’d look at existing “top” lists from other sites. You’d develop a “long list” of worthy experts, then gradually narrow it down based on followers, level of engagement, quality of posts, and other factors. You’d carefully develop your final list, possibly using a method like pairwise ranking.

But—what if you had to answer on the spot? What if you had to respond immediately, or within just a few minutes? You’d forget some important names, of course, but your answers would reveal those you keep top of mind.

And brands are using this demand for how-to content to connect with consumers in useful and meaningful ways.
