#Avails: Yes, Now You Can Buy Hashtags Too | MediaPost

In a surprising development for the burgeoning real-time media marketplace, advertisers and agencies now have the ability to programmatically target and place ads online based on content that users tag as being most relevant to themselves and others. As part of its Programmatic Advertising Platform, ad tech developer RadiumOne is enabling “hashtag targeting.”

...Initially, Chahal says the hashtag targeting will be available via RadiumOne’s own social media platform Via.Me -- which currently reaches about 11 million users per month -- but over time, he says RadiumOne hopes to integrate with other networks that enable users to hashtag, including Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram....

Of course, "simple" is relative. I don't mean you should take five minutes to scope  out some stock photos   and then insert them randomly into your posts. Content Preferences of B2B Marketers | Kapost Content Marketeer

Content Preferences of B2B Marketers | Kapost Content Marketeer | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

There are at least 947 marketing technology companies in a race toward being a part of the complete “Marketing Cloud.”

It’s a race worth winning. Forbes—as well as many others—has plainly pointed out Chief Marketing Officers will outspend Chief Technology Officers on technology within the next few years.

As a result, marketing to marketers has become an increasingly important dance. As Drew Neisser writes in The Fine Art of Marketing to Marketers:

“When it comes to marketing to marketers, the old adage ‘don’t blow smoke at smoke blowers’ certainly applies. Marketers as a whole are even more skeptical than the average consumer and can sniff out an overpromise faster than you can say big data. So when you see a brand succeed within this context inquiring minds can’t help but wonder how the heck they pulled it off.”...

Report: Facebook Dominates Social Sharing Of Major Events, But Twitter & Reddit React Quicker

Report: Facebook Dominates Social Sharing Of Major Events, But Twitter & Reddit React Quicker | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Facebook is for ice bucket challenges. Twitter is for Ferguson, Mo. That’s been the conventional wisdom in the past few months; that conversation about breaking news is happening mostly on Twitter, while people are using Facebook to share less timely — some would say less newsworthy — topics.

The evidence for this conclusion has been anecdotal, which is almost always the case when you are comparing results produced by Facebook’s opaque News Feed algorithm to anything. So any time there’s a chance to dig into data that sheds light on public social sharing activity, it’s wise to seize it.

The quarterly report of consumer sharing behavior published this week by social data and sharing tool provider ShareThis offers such an opportunity. And while the data, drawn from the 450 million unique users and 2.5 million sites and apps in the ShareThis network, doesn’t directly address the ice-bucket-vs.-Ferguson question, it does provide some interesting marketing takeaways....

$100 Gift Card for $10 On Walmart.com Is Mistake, Not Bait & Switch | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Once again, the Walmart website made a pricing error, and once again shoppers tried to pounce on it only to later have their orders canceled.

And as always happens in these situations, some of these folks are mistakenly claiming that this was a bait-and-switch scam.

This time, the deeply discounted item was a $100 Walmart gift card, which the site somehow listed as only $10.

So of course, people jumped at the chance to purchase these deeply discounted cards.

One woman tells Houston’s ABC13 that she ordered 80 of these cards (total face value: $8,000) for $800....

When you see a trend emerging, jumping on it with quick content deployment (called newsjacking) can be a great way to increase your visibility and generate new interest in your brand. But what’s the point of investing effort into these “piggybacking” content pieces if they’re reliant on trends that will eventually die out? Content is a long-term game. If you don’t have a way to drive sustainable engagement from your content pieces, you’re losing money and risk falling behind to more savvy competitors.

Essentially, you want to find the sweet spot between jumping on hot trends and future-proofing your content so that you continue to derive value from it long after the trend you’ve capitalized on has passed.
