Content, Friends and Time - The New SEO ScentTrail Marketing

Content, Friends and Time - The New SEO ScentTrail Marketing | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Wrote this piece today in my head sitting in a meeting. We discussed what content marketers do for a living. I realized our main Internet marketing craft is creating content that lives across time via social shares. This post discusses why who, how, when and why you link to is almost as important as the content you are writing.

Turns out we need to have yet one more Internet marketing strategy - a link strategy - or our content won't live as long or go as far. This post describes how to think about your links as part of the chess of content marketing.

[Smart thinking and interesting point of view on content marketing. ~ Jeff]

Why the Company Blog is More Important Than You Think | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Why? Because blogs with authentic and useful voices drive qualified leads, closely pacing email marketing as a lead gen tactic according to the same Hubspot study....

Understanding User Intent Differences Across Devices to Supercharge Your Marketing

Understanding User Intent Differences Across Devices to Supercharge Your Marketing | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Nearly every marketer can benefit from data that helps pinpoint key moments in a customer’s journey. This data can come in the form of search keywords, purchase intent, and site interactions, but it can also come from very different devices.

Marin Software projected last year that mobile devices would account for over 50% of paid search clicks by 2015. Additionally,eMarketer recently reported that nearly 200 million users are expected to search on mobile by 2018.With consumers increasingly using a plethora of devices for research and purchasing decisions, it’s important that marketers analyze data across multiple online environments to understand signals of intent.

Below are four varying factors that impact intent: the time element, local flavor, on-the-go component and functionality considerations....

Dear budding journalist,

Thanks very much for your email! I’m always happy to meet just about anybody, and would love to find some time to have that coffee with you.

Of course I’m also very flattered by the lovely things you said about me, and about how you’d love to have a career in journalism where you might be able to do the kind of thing that I do.

But you won’t. The job I’m doing now was inconceivable when I was your age, and, similarly, if you’re lucky enough to have done well in this industry by the time you’re my age (I’m 42), then you’ll almost certainly be doing something which almost nobody today could foresee....

Felix Salmon takes a somewhat discouraging but realistic look at the prospects for journalism. One thing for sure, it will continue changing quickly and always be evolving and it is most definitely a "calling" and not a ticket to big-money.

The 25 Biggest UK Publishers On Facebook | The Whip | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
We rank the biggest UK publishers by their Facebook interactions, and find that things are hotting up when it comes to UK content on social media.

In recent months, we’ve noticed that UK publishers have been making more and more of an impact in our social rankings each month.

First the Mirror became the first ‘legacy media’ outlet to ascend to the top 10 Facebook publishers internationally. Then the Telegraph entered the top Twitter publishers, and we noticed some strong performances from regional UK publishers.

This comes in tandem with the news that the Independent is to become the latest London-based news outlet to expand its interests to the US, joining the Mail and the Guardian (both of which also offer digital Australian editions).

Edelman Severs Relationship with Big Oil Lobby Agency Foregoes Giant Profits

Edelman Severs Relationship with Big Oil Lobby Agency Foregoes Giant Profits | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Last summer, PR giant Edelman became the focus of negative media attention when it became known that the agency was open to representing so-called "climate deniers." A perception of environmental callousness was furthered when an internal email from Edelman somehow reached the Climate Investigations Center, in which the firm's then-CEO and U.S. president Mark Hass said it was not necessary that he comment on the agency's stance on which clients it will or won't take.

Suddenly, a full-scale attack was launched against Edelman by many media outlets, painting the firm as a greedy organization that prioritized profits over principle. The episode sparked a months-long PR crisis for Edelman (no, the irony was not lost) and involved firm chairman Richard Edelman issuing a statement confirming the agency's commitment to climate-change science, and dismissing Hass. Like most crises, this one passed over—but it was not easily forgotten by the agency....

How I launched the #2 most upvoted product of all time on Product Hunt | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

The last 48 hours of my life were total madness. This is what I did.

Since I’m involved with startups on a daily basis, working on product development and (business) strategy, I’ve always been keeping lists of interesting tools and resources that could be interesting to use. Thinking of something I could create, I thought it would be fun to build a simple and useful site that could help makers find resources and tools while building their startup.

The first thing I did was writing down all categories I could think of that would suit a startup’s needs. I ended up with 50, and made a huge Excel sheet where I entered all the stuff I’d already saved. From there on I started collecting more resources and filling up the empty spaces....

This is a superb story about marketing a start up, lessons and a blueprint to follow for success. Highly recommended for startups, PR and marketing pros. 10/10

5 Pointless Marketing Metrics You Can Stop Tracking Today

5 Pointless Marketing Metrics You Can Stop Tracking Today | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

But in many areas of marketing, more doesn't always mean better. Take your marketing data, for example. Though having data about your marketing programs is crucial to analyzing your success and making changes to future programs, some individual metrics aren't actually that helpful. What is Influencer Marketing, and How Can You Use It?

What is Influencer Marketing, and How Can You Use It? | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Consumers value opinions that are expressed directly to them by people over advertising messages delivered by companies. According to a study by McKinsey, this value is so strong that word of mouth is the primary factor behind 20 to 50 percent of all purchasing decisions.

This is true across all industries, but the influence of other consumers is greatest when:

- consumers are buying a product for the first time,

- and when they are considering an expensive product.

The same study also showed that consumer-to-consumer word of mouth generates more than twice the sales of paid advertising, even when it is marketing-induced....

Content Beyond Text: The Multimedia Features Journalists Seek in an Online Newsroom | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

In our last post, we looked at three content features— PR contacts, press releases and breaking news—that journalists ranked high in importance in the 2015 Online Newsroom Survey Report. But in today’s digital world, “content” is defined more broadly than “text,” so in this post we’ll explore the multimedia elements of an online newsroom—things like photos, videos and audio files—and their relative importance among the journalists we surveyed. We’ll also take a look at online newsrooms that do multimedia well.

A photo is worth a thousand words
Given the budget cuts at media outlets over the past several years, it’s not surprising that 96% of journalists said photos are important, making them the #5 feature to have in your newsroom. High-quality photos can make the difference in getting a story published about your company or organization, so providing an easy-to-access, well-organized photo gallery on your news site is crucial....

UK - Perception of Value infographic

UK - Perception of Value infographic | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Value is in the eye of the beholder. But what influences the beholder in their perceptions? This infographic looks at the psychology behind our perceptions, noting trends, marketing practices and differing generational attitudes. Including:

  • How lobster went from prison food (at one time fetching $0.11/lb) to fine dining
  • How ‘ancient grains’ got pricey
  • How we experience more pleasure from a wine we’re told costs more

Since price positively influences perceptions of quality, and inversely influences perceptions of value, how do sellers of mundane products use history, story, exclusivity, and implied scarcity to change our appetites? Read on to find out a little more about the Perception of Value...
